This is how I did it, first time setting it up and I had it running without hiccups in two minutes. Maybe this will help out some people who are having trouble getting it to work. Open Steam and download the SteamVR app. Launch so it can do the first time setup. After that's done it will show a pop-up asking you to plug in your headset. Close SteamVR (the pop-up), plug in your headset and put it on. Within Oculus Home, look at your menu bar (with the buttons for your library, store, setting etc). There's a button for your desktop somewhere on the right side. Click it, it will open up your PC desktop within Oculus Home. From there, open steam and launch the SteamVR app from within your Steam library. Follow the instructions on the screen and done. The next time you want to play a game through SteamVR you don't have to start it on the PC first. Just put on your headset and open up your desktop within Oculus Home and launch it from there. And if within Steam itself, the SteamVR app doesn't show within your library, in the upper left corner, above your games/favorites list, open up the little drop down menu and tick 'Tools'. It will show up then.

Idk if someone has already commented this, but SteamVR doesn’t show up in your library because you’re only showing Games and Software. If you click the drop down, you can select Tools as well.

you can filter the library on steam to have it show tools and then you will see steam vr in your library

i need help pleaseeeee, i have the rift s and using steam vr with it sucks, it gets all glitchy and when i look to the left or right i can see black wall sorta things that are very delayed, and it keep making my screen have a weird smudge effect, i already tried un installing it and reinstalling it and it still does it

Couple of days ago I got my hands on the Oculus Rift S and I wanted to play some games on Steam VR but every time I'm trying to launch the game, Oculus software is losing tracking of my headset. When I'm trying to restart the Steam VR my controlers are switching off and I'm teleporting to the Rift S room setup(play space, floor level). Does anybody know how can I get my headset to work?

Redo the barrier thing. It's in settings. It's called redraw border or something I forget exactly. Sometimes I have to do this every time I play

I just Get the Oculus Rift S and works very well whit the oculus software but when I install the Steam and SteamVR software it does detect my oculus the little window appear when I Run SeamVR and the oculus and controls change to green and when I put on my head the oculus I see through the oculus my desk in Black and White and I can here some sounds when I move my head I can see a little windows under the SteamVR window What I suppose to see But I just See my desk Please it´s any way to fix this problem ?

I barely ever used mine. Ended up selling it. They're more of a novelty at this time. The games still aren't fully fleshed out most of the time and look poor quality. I got way more mileage out of my Nintendo Switch

I have a weird problem.. I downloaded it and its not showing up in oculus...and when i start a vrgame on steam the oculus app opens but then i get a message "U need to download oculus software" and steam itself say somthing with "steamvr needs to put itself in appcontainers"

Anything made by Alienware. Anything with an NVIDIA graphics card that is fairly new. Those are safe bets.

Also keep on mind that vr is still basically in it's infancy and the technology is not as fleshed out as it could be and the games are not as quality as like an Xbox or Playstation title would be. I ended up abandoning vr over these quality and ease of use issues. It also gave me motion sickness in minecraft sadly

When using steamvr and rift s my i5 8400 usage shoots up to 95% Is this normal or am I doing something wrong?

there's nothing wrong with maxing your processor unless it's malfunctioning like lagging. i had a similar issue where my CPU was always running at max even when my PC was idling. Weirdly increasing my SSD storage fixed the issue because my Windows was sitting on a drive that was too small and it was causing memory and performance issues. This isn't likely to be your issue unless you're on a tiny drive. I would recommend doing VR using an i7 or higher but an i5 might do the job. If you're not experiencing issues then I wouldn't worry about it.

Any lag will depend on your hardware and how well it runs a particular game. I don't experience much lag on my hardware but I have a 2080ti so it's pretty hard to lag it out. My cpu will sometimes bottleneck though since it's not as updated.

How did you actually record the gameplay

It's a very tricky setup. There is a screen mirror app built into Oculus for developers. I think it's called Oculus Mirror but I forget. You have to run that simultaneously and set your game recorder to record that app and it will show correctly. Part of why I stopped doing VR content was because of the severe complexity of this filming process. In terms of complexity it's like a 10 out of 10. Also it only mirrors the screen so you still need to get an audio source from your gameplay. Pretty tricky stuff. Best of luck. Did you install games to your library in steam? Cuz it only brings in steam games from your steam library. That's why I needed to do this whole process just to play one game

I have the same issue in this video. Some games just aren't mapped for it. Try plugging in an Xbox controller like I have (not sure if I showed it) and maybe you can control it that way. Steam seemed to see my controller really easily.

It could be an incompatibility with the specific game. Maybe try another game that is confirmed as working. Remember oculus has to run in the background so don't close it.

how do i do it without a desplay port and only 1 hdmi and having to use an adapter for the vr so i cant use the monitor and vr at the same time?

You need a display port. You shouldn't have bought this system without a display port and a USB 3.0 port. Its listed on the requirements. The best option would be to return the Rift S and get the other Rift model that isn't wired.

I just did this the other day and it detected my controls just fine so I know it technically works. Make sure you don't close the oculus software. Also maybe steam has some way to pair the controls manually? Seems like it should.

A few months ago I bought a refurbished rift+touch and it was unusable, constant stuttering and complete display loss. My PC specs are I7 9700k @4.6GHz, red devil 5700XT, 32GB RAM @3200MHz... never had any issues before. I’m really hoping that my rift s coming in a few days will not be as troublesome.

It's just a screen recorder and the app that shows ur screen. It's a exe file in the oculus folder. It's called oculus viewer or something like that. Google it and you'll find the details

Check system resources in task manager while it's running. See what is failing. It's either cpu or memory if I had to guess

Hello, I am writing here because I have a problem and maybe someone can help me. I bought the Oculus Rift CV1 to play Half-Life Alyx and when I run it it gives me the following problem: SteamVR failed initialization with error code VRInitError_Init_PathRegistryNotFound: "Installation path could not be located (110)" It has me going crazy, reinstalled SteamVR several times and nothing. If I can't fix it, I'll have to sell my glasses

It does not have an HDMI cable. It uses a full size display port and a USB 3 connection at the same time.

Game you have tried to launch on video doesn't support oculus rift, that's why you can't interact with that button

Did you download the hidden Steam VR app like I showed in the video? Also try launching the app in the order I showed in the video. I mention how it didn't work a few times because of the order I opened stuff.

I installed it typing in the libary steamvr. It shows up in the libary if you type it in the search bar.

This happened to me as well, you may have figured it out already but unbeknownst to me, my pc didn’t reach the minimum specs. I had to upgrade it till it met them and then it worked fine, this may be your issue.

I have oculus rift s. While having oculus and steam vr open I still cant play any steam vr games. I launch them and then my controllers disconnect and my screen goes black. I tried launching Gorn, half life, and until you fall. If you have any troubleshooting tips that would be awesome. I tired restarting my headset and computer plenty of times with bo success.

Did finally get it to work had launch oculus and then a virtual desktop to launch steamvr rather than launching steam vr through the oculus library
