I'm not a fan of securing aero bits with just double sided tape, but reversibility is also a must-have for me. In this video I explain my unique approach to securing a carbon fiber spoiler with epoxy while maintaining the ability to remove the part without damaging the paint.

I had installed a lip spoiler on my car a few days ago but it seems that a small portion did not stick properly. How do I handle that?

I live in Colorado and didn’t finish one winter here and the DST by 3M didn’t hold. Contraction or moisture, or both/more caused it to start to lift on one corner. I’m curious if everybody thinks the betalink will hold better. Particularly for temperature/weather swings. Also. The spoiler I have. Has a small edge to apply BL or DST to to form the bond. Like only a 5mm edge or so and the under/middle is basically hollow so I’d have to be pretty exactly applying the BL - can you wipe it at all if you get any oozing out of an edge? Tips for that?

I would do everything possible to ensure none oozed out and required being wiped away.

Sounds like we have the same spoiler and was curious as to what you did and how it held up over time? Currently debating betalink and 3m auto grade tape

Is it instant bond meaning you can't move it at all as soon as it goes on?....can you adjust it before it cures?

Good question. You have some time before it sets so hard that you can't move it. But I'd strongly recommend that you do all that you can to have it as dummy proof as possible when the time comes to seat the part.

is the spoiler more flush with glue (no gaps) than using 3m tape?

The epoxy will not change the profile of either's mating surface but it will fill in any gaps *far better* than any double-sided-tape will.

What kinda glue what that

So in essence you're relying on the ppf to hold the spoiler in place, not the epoxy per se. not sure I get the logic. If the down force is strong enough and that small strip of ppf is compromised the spoiler will just tear the strip of ppf along with the epoxy the sits atop of it. Love the attention to detail though. thanks

@vSApophis double sided 3m heavy duty tape works just fine even at really high speeds

In regards to the PPF, yes. The logic is two-fold: 1) I do not like to rely, mechanically, on double-sided tape, and 2) there is about a zero % chance this way does not hold equal or better with fewer drawbacks (such as how awful removal of double sided-tape is on paint or in my case the satin PPF). The downforce created is not exclusively downward against the bonding agent/decklid. There is also a lateral push. In that way it's not purely about downforce working *with* the spoiler to the body. In the case of the way I used an intermediate PPF layer, it's simply not going to peel away or come loose. I am now sitting with more than 8,000 miles on this installation with it having experienced freezing and wildly hot/humid weather countless times and she's holding up well. And when it's time to remove the spoiler I guarantee the process will be better than dealing with double-sided tape. With all of that said I am not saying someone's a fool to do it with just DST. Different folks, different strokes and all. But this is my preferred method and how I've done it on other client's cars with good success. The reversability of this process is a nice icing on the proverbial cake too. :)

3m tape does the same thing and costs like 20$ lmao. Also way easier to remove. I have all my carbon fiber pieces on my car mostly by 3m and none have fallen off or even gotten loose for over 2 years.

this is a more cleaner and permanent way to install a spoiler. It looks better in person with glue than tape

3m tape doesn’t do the same thing piss me off I’m ripping off your spoiler lmao

3m tape is coming off for me tbh bc its so hot

So in essence, you're reliant on the bond between the paintwork of your car and the layer of PPF you used, to hold that in place...Why not just use 3M tape/pads if that's the case? VHB tape would have been far easier to install and made a securer fit. It just seems a lot of work for something you didn't want to make permanent.. just saying.Soz...just read the other comments below too late.
