Hi Kate nice to meet you. I really admire other Etsy sellers share what has helped them with their Etsy shops. I've had a shop on Etsy that was doing pretty good until they made their changes last year and now I barely get a sale a month. Https://www.etsy.com/shop/marketsofsunshine
It is really subjective! That’s exactly where we started too (took a few months to even get our first sale) - keep persevering and getting a little better every day! ❤️
Can we just take the time to appreciate how hard Kate works to help us with our mini shops and how she likes every comment! Thanks Kate for ur great work ☺️
Wow! I have great naturaL all soy candles/wax melts with premium fragrance oils and with ads even 2 sales in 6 weeks. Thanks to my friends or 0 sales:(

hi! i just relaunched my business i made a new etsy and everything i’m selling stickers and other stationery and art hoping to make my first sale! these type of videos really help!
OMG, I love the advice I am getting from you. It totally contradicts what I was taught by the two mentors that got me started. I was told more, more, more get as many products listed as fast as you can. I opened my Etsy store in late June and didn't get my first sale until like December 1st and still have only sold 6 items. I will be going back to redo ALL of my listings for quality after listening to you. Thank you so much.
I’m so glad these tips have helped you, friend! I always value quality of listing over quantity. Stay on the trends and always be flexible with creating new products but no need to burn yourself out!! 🥰❤️
Thanks for all of your advice. I've just opened an Etsy shop to sell my leather wallets and I'm still looking to get the first couple of sales I'll put all of this advice into practice and see where it takes me. 😊
Hey Kate. I am a Social Media Manager and this is just an FYI: Contests and Giveaways that require actions are expressly prohibited by Facebook’s rules. A lot of people don't know it but Facebook does not allow you to require actions on their platform in exchange for entries. This means that you can’t ask for likes or shares or tags on Facebook as a means of entering any contest or giveaway. If Facebook "by chance" catches it they can without notice shut down your page or group and all is gone forever as you are not allowed to start a new page with the name of your business if a page or group is shut down.
Wow! I totally subscribed, great tips. I created an etsy shop 3 days ago, no sales yet, But I got tons of views and visits! Thanks youu! This really helps small businesses, might not have sales yet but I'm getting tons of people viewing my shop and listings
I've been updating my listing a little every time I have been watching your videos. Not blessed yet with a sale but praying as I go, I will see some movement!
Thank you so much for this video! I have watched so many and everything seems to be so complicated. These are simple steps and I'm looking forward to trying them out!
Thank you for such great information ! Wish I came across the 40 Free Etsy listing when I started in October. This year I plan to pray and work hard to double my sales and make this my full time job!
Oh my gosh thanks for the help! I just opened one at 14 years old, it’s something I wanted to do as part time. I worked hard everyday after school and haven’t made many sales. I’m hopeful that all your videos will help! Thanks again
Thank you for generously sharing your knowledge with people, Kate) Your tips will support those who opened their first store and will not allow many people ALL OVER THE WORLD to leave the idea of developing their business.
I have an Etsy shop which is exclusively decals and stickers, i make 10k per month, have never used facebook in my life, for personal or business, i despise facebook. In fact i have no social media accounts whatsoever, and i didn't start out selling to family/friends/co-workers, in fact my co-workers had no idea i even had a shop. If you have good/original designs or products you can make good sales on Etsy just from being on there without social media.
This what I see on Etsy Ads, In place of Etsy to attract and help its sellers, it began to destroy them. I sell physical products and I have costs. Selling from an Etsy ad does not cover the expenses.
Can you do a video about handling mean reviews 😬 I only have 6 sales , 2 reviews. One reviewer was nice, left 5 stars. The other one was very mean, said my product was not worth the money & was just straight up rude & left a one star. I actually have my products listed at a discounted rate right now because I was hoping to boost sales so the rude review saying it wasn’t worth the discounted price was very hurtful since I put many hours of work and of course a ton of time thinking up my product idea. Thanks so much for making these videos! I just found your channel last week so I’m enjoying the content!
Hi Jen! That’s a great idea to cover in a future video. I’m sorry you had to go through that- especially on one of your first reviews! Unfortunately every Etsy seller has to deal with rude comments at some point and develop somewhat of a thick skin. If they have a valid point, it’s good to take criticism and let it help you improve but sometimes it’s not constructive at all and those you just let roll right off.
I wish I found is video before I closed my Etsy shop, I had it for about 2 years and had to close because I wasn't making that mine sales. So, I hope I can use these tips to reopen my shop someday.
Love your videos! Thank you for your tips. I've just opened an Etsy shop My Crafty Gifts selling handmade personalised frames and these tips are invaluable! X
You’re always so helpful! Thanks for giving so many great tips! I just started a second Etsy shop (BDL Digital Designs) to dive into my love for all things forms while also still doing my first Etsy shop (LivingstonLiving) with all things Christmas & crafts. My first shop does okay during holiday seasons but then basically dies out during off months (of course because it’s mostly Christmas items) so I’m trying to find a way to still get sales during off months by offering crafting items that don’t necessarily have to be only Christmas but still keeping my Christmas theme. And I’m hoping my second Etsy shop will do okay to help supplement in income for those off seasons!
I love your content! I’m about to launch my Etsy in about 2/3 weeks, it’s a Eco friendly hamper/gift box store (BoxedCurationsByIvy) but I am trialing/testing the market with my Shop for the Valentines season and will open with 3 listings. Would you suggest still creating the FB Groups and getting the word out there? I’m nervous that if I do this and my shop isn’t successful, if I decide to stop Etsy I would have put the word out there and it would seem like I’ve just disappeared? Maybe I’m overthinking things 😬
That’s so great! I’d say you should go ahead and do the group for your launch. It will definitely help boost sales in the beginning and then down the road if you decide Etsy isn’t for you, you can always announce that to your group and let them know what you’ve decided. Things are always changing and usually people will be gracious ❤️
It’s a great analogy for that first push to “get the blood flowing”! I’m not a nurse but do know enough about CPR 😆 So cool that you do both! Will take a look at your shop!! 🥰
Thank you Kate for this awesome video! Question, when you say discount in the FB group, what percentage would you recommend? Also, how much would you recommend to spend a day for the 1st Etsy ad? I primarily sell $20 t-shirts and $12 face masks. I've had my shop for about 4 months with 51 sales on the site. -Thanks
The percentage discount should be something very appealing- I would say 40% or more if you can swing it. We did 50% and also a buy one get one free. As far as ads, that’s totally up to you and what your budget allows for. We usually try it out at around $1-3 a day for a while to get a feel for it. Obviously the more you put into it the greater your chance for a return on investment.

@@KateHayes Thank you Kate! I appreciate your help and reply. I may run an ad targeting Mothers Day. Do you think a week or two is long enough? Gotta start a group within my FB Business page. 😊
The thing that I will take away from this video is the freebie week idea! I just wish I could get Etsy reviews from the give a ways. Ha ha Jennie Mini Millinery on Etsy
One thing you can do if you know the person who won (would only recommend this for family/friends) is have them purchase the item on your shop and then issue a full refund right after. This way they still get it free but gives you another sale on your listing and they can leave a review!
@@KateHayes I didn't think of that, but I did think that my husband could buy it and then the person could just tell us how they liked it and he would put that into "his" review...
Loved the information!! Started my etsy business a few years ago. AdaleenNaturalAlpaca had a few sales but would love to get my alpaca products out to more customers. I just love Alpacas and the products I can make with their fleece. Thanks again for sharing your video :)
One great place to start is to drive external traffic from social media (Facebook, Instagram), Pinterest, or an email list! You can always also try Etsy ads too.
Ok! this sounds great Kate, but considering I'm old school and I don't know how to do all that I'm going to need some videos on how to get started on Etsy.
Sign up for our “Scale your Sales” Etsy course waitlist coming out in a few weeks. I think you would be a good candidate. Lists of content helping you out as well as access to an exclusive group to support you.
I just started a 100% natural hemp skincare product company and on every platform available in Nov. I sold 200 products within the first month and now just 2 orders sold in Jan. My problem is gaining new consumers/audience so I've switched from looking for sales to building rapport hoping it pays off. 🙏
The couple of months after the holidays are often very slow for sellers. Way to be flexible! Just continue making efforts to drive external traffic as much as possible and offer new products for upcoming holidays :)
2wo Scoops Published- children's books, motivational planners, student agendas, coloring books, and I DESIGNED THEM ALL!!! The newest release are my Halloween Composition Notebooks & coming very soon: the Breast Cancer Journal & Halloween coloring book
I have been open one month today and no real sales only family and friends I begged to buy which I hated doing. I have only 13 sales from them. I really want to get outside sales. I will try this.
Great job so far! It can take some time to build momentum, and there’s nothing wrong at all starting out with your family and friends purchasing from you!
I love that even at the beginning of the video you are very specific on how to apply the principles of success on Etsy! Hopefully my small shop can get a shout out in the future! MillennialBaeStudios
For sure! I love straight forward videos that are easy to understand myself, so I try to do that with my own as well! Can’t wait to take a look at your shop 💛
I was actually thinking about going to my local coffee shop (or a walking park), sitting down at a table and do my art (which involves drawing and water color painting). It's not messy because I use water color pencils, a water-dispensing paint brush, and people can walk by and see my work.I used to get positive attention in high school when doing my art, so perhaps people will stop and comment on my picture, and I could tell them that they can buy it on my etsy page (but only if they show a great interest). I should just keep doing that regularly and see what happens.
Yw, hard part I'm having now is how to price my items high enough to not loose if i do free shipping but not so high that it over priced. Also dont know if u have done a video on this already Wondering after your huge monthly sales how much is actually profit? And how do you handle the tax part, that scares me. I would love to do this 2/3 days week instead of my day job but after fees and taxes i feel like there will be nothing left for supporting a family. Thanks again
