One of the first 'rock' songs I learned on electric guitar in 1965 - I was 13 yo - Jr. High garage band! Still a go-to campfire song, minus arthritis, of course... and there's 'Louie, Louie'; 'Seventh Son'; 'Hang on Sloopy'; 'Wild Thing'; LoL. Thanks, Lauren, for the memories 😊
Great tutorial! Thank you! I'm a 66 year old beginner and I'm working on this song and the F chord, sometimes I can do it and that makes me happy. I have very small hands, my baby finger is only 1 3/4" long, I didn't think it was possible when I started but with practice it's happening, YAY!
It's amazing how our bodies adapt to whatever we're doing repetitively. When I first tried to play with a guitar strap standing up, I thought there was no way. But I just kept doing it and one day it seemed quite natural. I'm 62 BTW.
Once again sis, you have absolutely outshone yourself, this is one of the first tunes I ever learned to play in 1974 whilst doing my military service in Rhodesia now Zimbabwe. There are things that you cleared up for me whilst playing the song. Thank you so very much. Love and blessings from the bush veld in South Africa. 🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦
I do the arpeggios for the opening and go to a strumming pattern with the lyrics. It gives a fuller sound. Also, it still sounds good with the easy F chord. Great lesson!
Wow! Oh Wow! I learned to play this by Strumming! The arpeggios sound way closer to the original version! Totally love your lesson techniques!Much Love!
Hi Lauren Bateman, just to say that you are amazing on guitar lesoon. speak slowly, play more slowly, explained when you play and repeat the explication, alwais with a smile and easy to understand, thank you so much, kiss
Lauren, I’ve been playing guitar as a total hobbyist (never real serious but just for fun) and I’ve gotten pretty decent over 20 years. I’ve watched a lot of teachers and I love your teaching style. U explain things very well and put things on the screen (arpeggios anyone?) to let students know exactly what u are talking about. Anyway, love your channel and teaching style:)
I only got my left handed guitar 3 weeks ago. I've landed on you as my "teacher" after viewing several left handed instructors and many other you tuber guitarists. I love your teaching method and that you strive to make it fun. You make it possible for me at 59 to learn to play guitar. P.S. I am going to park my strat as soon as my new Yamaha LL16 RLHB arrives from Sweetwater. You inspired me to play accoustic and learn finger picking, too!. Thanks for doing what you do on youbute.
Many of us no doubt have had that experience of being at some party or another in our formative youth and having to put up with that person who would deign to pick up the random acoustic sitting in the corner and inevitably start rather crudely strumming that achingly familiar chord progression. Props once again for breaking down and articulating the essential applications of nuance and feel to a dare I say, deceptively simple song.
I’ve been working on this song and thanks to you, it’s finally sounding somewhat similar to the way it should! Others might actually recognize it too! Lol you’re the best!
I’ve been working on this song for 3 months!?! I SO appreciate the way you break things down. I truly appreciate you. Love your talent, and super grateful that you’re SO humble in your videos. 💯🙌❤️🤓🤘🏼
awesome a classical song n. i appropriate your learning lessions. Thanks a heap i always looking forward your coming videos i can read your talent n confident face on music keep it up teacher
Yeah, that's a great tune and everyone needs that one in their bag for sure. I think that it works for everyone whether you're a flat picker, finger style or even strumming as long as you can keep that bassline going. It's a cool campfire song either way.
@@LaurenBateman I learned that song from a local guitar teacher. He taught to strum the cords as a repeated sequence and when I thought I had it down in a 4/4 beat he refused to play it with me at a party because he said I had it wrong. What happened is he failed to mention the arpeggio and the 6/4 timing. Turns out he was like most guitar teachers I have seen that want to show off their abilities but don't know how to teach. Sounds familiar anybody? Thanks Lauren your a refreshing exception.
A fovorite song of mine, but not an easy one to learn. The dreaded F chord makes me wince! Learning this one will make me practice, so every cloud has a silver lining! Thanks for this one Lauren.
Perhaps one of the most recognizable intros of all time ‼️ On another note 🎵 I often ponder the inspiration for the title and the lyrics.... Euphemisms aside.... 👀 I'm working on this one Lauren... Thanks Teach.... 🍎
Thank you! New subscriber here in the Philippines. And i'll try this if i can buy a guitar. Both my nephews are great guitarist. And i felt envy to them.
This sounded amazing I'm definitely not at this level of skill yet my mind was just like wow. But It shows me where I can be soon if I just keep trying and trying. Great classic song have a blessed week
Pois é prof como cê foi tão importante tanto pra mim e para o mundo todo relembrar uma música linda dessa que toca o coração pelo estilo e letras parabéns pra vc que tirou essa música lá de1964 relíquia.
Good morning Girl, Great lesson. Like the way you pick this One out. Been trying to do Bar Chords. Hard to make them out with stove up fingers. But trying hard and doing what I can. 😆
Lauren... Dylan did this tune on his 1st album.... never sang this song again after recorded by the animals.. Dave Vonronk did this tune many times in the village which caused a big riff between Dylan * Vonronk
Lauren.... we appreciate you're interaction with your fans * students.... amazing to me you always respond to all of us... well appreciated by all I'm sure
Good lesson (as always ) - silly YT deleted a bunch of my subcriptions - I got you back now though - WHAT ?!?!? Who said your not perfect ?!?!?! - you never disappoint
Lauren, on the D chord, after starting with the open D, go back up over the D string and start the rake with the D and it will flow like the rest of the chords.
Nice tutorial Lauren. Speaking of F barre chord, do professional guitar players from time to time still unintentionally muting and strings with their F barre chords?
Thanks Lauren for the excellent tutorial. I find it hard to do the stunning pattern to this legendary song. So I just use my fingers. I still sounds good. The cords you use are different than the original one from the band
Good song to practice finger picking, for me I do make sure the base note rings and also a very slight delay before picking the rest of the notes of a chord
@@LaurenBateman I learned to play on a guitar with a real skinny neck when I was already 19, so I could always do the thumb wrap around thing for the low F. 🙂
Great introductory lesson to this song! Something I would like to suggest is because the timing is everything with is piece, what would you recommend a beginner set the metronome rate at? I have tried everything from 60 - 240 with the timing at 6/8 and still can't quite get it. Years ago I did play this song flawlessly but time has taken a toll. Thanks
Thanks so much! One great exercise that I do with students is to have them set the metronome for 10BPM higher than their maximum speed. You can learn more about this concept on this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TrsmVeOi2HA.html
Oi prof agora que te encontrei gostei muito da sua aula já sou seu fã queria saber qual o nome dessa canção eu quero aprender tocar ela muito obrigado bjs...
I have always played this with the open F chord, not the barre chord. I never learned it with the barred F, interesting. I guess I need to listen to the record, lol.
the F chord arpeggio starting at about 4:06, it's tabbed incorrectly on screen as a 3 on the G string when it should be a 2. just thought you should know.
@@LaurenBateman I love those models, especially the 69 RS with the electric headlight covers. I just recently found your channel and have been binge watching alot of your material. I consider myself a low tier intermediate player that's trying to learn theory and I like how you explain things. It's also refreshing to see a new face and personality in the guitar community. You're the first female instructor that I've seen that doesn't use cleavage to pull views. Not that I have anything against cleavage, just don't think that's the appropriate time to be showing off your goods. Thank you for putting out great content!
