Stephen A. Smith joins Rachel Nichols, Ramona Shelburne, Brian Windhorst and Ramona Shelburne to react to the Shelburne's report that New York Knicks owner James Dolan did not want to offer Kevin Durant a max deal over injury concerns. Durant will sign with the crosstown Brooklyn Nets to play alongside Kyrie Irving and DeAndre Jordan. The Knicks are signing Julius Randle, according to Adrian Wojnarowski.

@The Hawk The Knicks wanted a healthy KD. Not one that is coming off a serious injury. That is a huge difference. There is a very good chance that he will not be the same player once he is back to being active as most players aren't. He is also not expected to make a full recovery until late 2020 at the very earliest. Would not be surprised if we don't see him suited up & ready to go until some point in 2021. The risk was way too high & no one can really blame the Knicks for not offering the max.

KD will be an 18ppg defensive liability from now on. Knicks knew that and low balled him knowing he'd reject it and let them off the hook. Warriors only offered KD a max out of obligation and guilt. They're relieved af he didn't take it. If being a tall shooter with skills is all that's needed then Carmelo would still be killing after he lost a step.
