ESPN is CLEARLY using Stephen A. Smith's ability to be more controversial on his podcast to create news that they can then discuss on the show, and he's a genius for being able to play both sides.

It's a brilliant move to be honest. Farm a few controversial clips on your podcast that would be considered borderline unprofessional in the ESPN format. Bait the players as a result, then spend the next day on ESPN farming the drama.

It isn't like Stephen A. created that lane. They took stories from JJ's podcast in the past. They took stories from Micah's podcast within the last year. Now Stephen A. can take stories that he creates from his podcast. I think it is kind of sad though. Once upon a time, the job of the sports analysts and broadcasters were to never become the news. They are now the news. There are videos and channels on RU-vid that speculated on where Shannon would sign next as a broadcaster / on-air talent. They have become the news even more than the athletes they cover. It is sad.
@ninjachannel007

They're both 100%, but Zion gave the best possible response, considering. ALL he can do is go out next game and go hard and be humble about accepting criticism. He did that. I mean, look at how Klay reacted to a simple question about the patience of his coach. A part of this is really good media-player interaction, but Smith and Shannon know they're doubling down because it's good for ratings, too.

Zion's best possible response needs to be consistency with both performance and conditioning. Even more than his conditioning affecting his numbers, like getting 28-14 as Shannon said, his conditioning affects his probability of injury. There are a few all-star level players whose most important number for the regular season is games played. Zion, Kawhi, AD, and Porzingis lead the list. If they, especially the first three, play at their top level for 70+ games, they are top-10 players in the league.

If you remember Zion’s story going back to high school, he spoke of getting thicker and way more athletic at the same time. That may have led him to be care-free about his size. That worked for a few years, but now it’s time to change the youthful habits into adult habits. He’s one of my favorite players, and I hope he finds a way to dominate for a long time.

I hate to say it but Shannon Sharpe knows what he is talking about when it comes to taking care of the body. Dude is in his mid 50's and still looks like he can put on the pads and play in the NFL...and the thing is he's been out the league since the early 2000's, I believe ....but he chose to stay in shape. It's not like he has to anymore, he's retired, so I do respect where he's coming from. I'm personally rooting for Zion to have a long career. I love watching him play, and I'm not even a Pels fan

Shockingly....I'm with Zion on this for the most part. People, especially in our culture, like to hide behind the "tough love" and "jonesing" as if to say that I can talk bad about you but my intentions were good. As Unc says....not everybody play like you play. There is a way to critique that will be receptive to the listener, if you only care to do it "your way" then you can't be mad at how someone takes it. The jokes and quotes and all that...wasn't his vibe and I think that's perfectly fine, especially if he is going to give very clean-cut responses and not get into a mudslinging contest.

I’d agree with Shannon. You hear of all the great athletes just putting in work, being relentless even when they’re not playing a game. Look at Steph Curry no vs his rookie year. Or the work ethic of a Jerry Rice. If you love something and genuinely want to be the best at it, then you do simple things like go on a diet.

Zion's reaction to say that it is not up to him to know whether or not he wants to lose weight, I find that he does not realize what he is saying, he does not see at his age the importance of make efforts to evolve, while we fans don't criticize him, we just tell him that the way he moves in a match is slower when we see him evolving on the floor and it's certain that with weight loss and a sharpened body will be unstoppable and everyone in basketball sees that

Something you love can easily become something you hate when it becomes a job. And although he’s right everyone has had to learn from their own mistakes at some point, so we’ve all been foolish at some point in life. There was nothing wrong with his response cause some of the media personalities aren’t coming from a place of wanting better, how many yrs did we watch shaq berate Dwight and JaVale McGee.

I saw this coming the moment he left Duke. You can see it. All of a sudden he got rich and he was gonna get heavy unless he was put on a strict healthy food regime. I’m glad he is in New Orleans and not in NY or LA where the media would have a field day with this. He is who he is. 🤷🏾‍♂️

Zion, a generational talent, needs to get his head straight and reach his true potential. No-one is rooting against him and everyone is right. Even though he showed up vs Minnesota, he blew out a tire and he is now injured because he is simply very much out of shape and conditioning. This injury should open his eyes.

His nightly average says he can show up on a nightly basis. They brought up the Lakers game like he hasn't played against and balled out against the best of the best before. He had a bad game. Don't bring up his weight like it's making him a bad player in big games when truth be told he's actually been a great player in big games. Talk injury, talk longevity, but don't talk consistency because at that point you either don't know, are lying, or are poking at him for content. Which one is it?
