I think people aren’t reading the whole story just the headline. The original story was printed in The Athletic. The relationship started out as a consensual one but when the organization found out in July the relationship ended. Since then he has made unwanted advances towards this women which is sexual harassment. A woman can reject consent. Just because you had a consensual relationship doesn’t mean it remains that way.

My question is even if the Celtics had just straight up fired him like Stephen A suggests, wouldn’t they still need to explain why? So in the end it’s the same situation, it would be public knowledge. Udoka was a great coach and everyone who watches basketball knows who he is, so it’s not like people aren’t going to want an explanation on why he got fired. What are they supposed to say? “Yup we just decided to fire our awesome coach that took us to the finals for no reason?” If Udoka was not the head coach, but instead someone in the management role that’s more behind-the-scenes, then they could keep it private.

She is married to a high ranking official within the Celtic organization. Hes pretty much done for.

So the Boston Celtics were going to fire the head coach without publicly stating the reason and nobody was going to ask any questions as to why?

They were not going to be able to keep this private if they fired him. He just took the team to the NBA finals as an underdog. If they fire him or suspend him the media is going to want to know why. And not stop digging until they find out. Plus I read the woman came back and said some of the advances were unwanted. Now you have potential lawsuit.

It's common for people within the organization to mess around. Even in the tech industry, omg the company parties are insane the amount of messing around is like eyes wide shut party.

Stephen has a valid point here. You either gotta fire him if it was misconduct or if it was consensual, punish him for his violation, but stand with him as your coach. It feels like the Celtics are being purposefully ambiguous about all of it. I personally believe there was likely some misconduct here, but the Celtics don't want the full story out because they plan on bringing him back because he took them to the finals and is a good coach. Normal business tactics are at play here. Now, they can get him back and not have to pay him as much in the coming years and other teams likely won't pick him up because no org wants to deal with the scrutiny that this type of allegation comes with. Just my thoughts, but there is definitely more to the story the Celtics are leaving out.

The issue with firing him is paying him. They may have given him the option to resign. This is the result of not playing ball with a resignation.

There are agendas running all through that organization that ownership needs to ferret out and remove. Allison Feaster, a well respected former ball player, executive and wife was hung out to dry for almost 48hrs and the organization didn't refute anything in her defense. The Boston Celtics ownership has not addressed the dysfunction running rampant in that organization and they are going to learn a hard lesson over the next couple of years as star players will leave and none will want to sign there.

How did they even find out?

SAS thinks they the Celtics could have just fired him after 1 season where he exceeded all expectations and almost won the championship without giving any reasons?? Please. SAS would have been the loudest dude out here, leading the whole charge, calling for them to explain themselves. And if they didn't, he would say it's because Udoka is black... just like he's saying now.

All Udoka did was have an affair with a co-worker and while that's not great, it's certainly not as bad as the Farve situation

He just got caught because we know that he isn't the only man or woman that does this in any work environment. They both are responsible and accountable.

While SAS is right about how this was handled by the Celtics (leaking info, etc.), all of this could have been avoided had Udoka not engaged in this relationship. We seem to be forgetting this and trying to act like he is the victim in a situation HE created. The team had a clear code of conduct-which he willingly chose to violate. And now we are finding out that he has been making sexual comments to her that she no longer appreciates, which is her right. This is why businesses have these types of rules in the workplace. It just creates a whole bunch of mess.
