There are Heroes - and then there are Greek Heroes.
Heroes is out on 1st November but you can pre-order in hardback or audio now: amzn.to/2DmcQ8H
Few mere mortals have ever embarked on such bold and heart-stirring adventures, overcome myriad monstrous perils, or outwitted scheming vengeful gods, quite as stylishly and triumphantly as Greek heroes.
In this companion to his bestselling Mythos, Stephen Fry brilliantly retells these dramatic, funny, tragic and timeless tales. Join Jason aboard the Argo as he quests for the Golden Fleece. See Atalanta - who was raised by bears - outrun any man before being tricked with golden apples. Witness wily Oedipus solve the riddle of the Sphinx and discover how Bellerophon captures the winged horse Pegasus to help him slay the monster Chimera.
Filled with white-knuckle chases and battles, impossible puzzles and riddles, acts of base cowardice and real bravery, not to mention murders and selfless sacrifices, Heroes is the story of what we mortals are truly capable of - at our worst and our very best.

I feel the same about Mythos as I enjoyed reading it immensely!! I haven't read ,, Heroes" yet but I am looking forward to it. Mythos was a real eye opener for me and I would say that it is one of the greatest books I have ever read taking me to a wonderful journey full of unearthly things and creatures, helping me escape from the ordinary mundane world ! Masterpiece!!

Prometheus. OK he was a titan but he's a hero. He stole fire from the Gods and gave it to us because his brother Epimetheus forget to give us a positive trait, like teeth, or claws, or haste, or camouflage. It was his love for mankind that made Prometheus steal arts and fire for us and he paid the price for it.

"Wrestling" Pankration in other words
@pickledirick8338
@pickledirick8338 5 лет назад
They are different; pankration is more Herakles' style while, as Fry explained, subduing your opponent using weight and pressure points is the essence of wrestling. In Book 23 of the Iliad (the funeral games for Patroklus) the Greeks had wrestling, boxing and armed combat as competitions so it is clear that they differentiated between different arts of fighting.
