He's not shading Nicole Kidman he's shading the people who cut him off. Nicole Kidman is just his example. He's probably shading the fact that he's a black man who got a minute cut off from his speech when a white lady got 45 seconds more. He even says "it's not her fault" so stop pitting the two of them against each other

This guy is on as hot of a hot streak as anyone can be on. Won his first Emmy last year on an unbelievably successful show, The People VS OJ Simpson. Now winning his second Emmy in a much bigger category for his leading role in another unbelievably successful show This Is Us. Now he’s in Marshall. Next year he’ll be in Black Panther. This guy is riding high and I hope he keeps going. In the words of Sterling K Brown at the Emmys, “I’m a fan.”

I counted that he was starting to be cut off by music after exactly 2 minutes from the start of his speech. That's a generous enough amount of time. Surely winners have to realize that they have a limited amount of time to complete their speech, especially later in the awards show as they run over time. The winner after him was allowed even less time. By the way, you will notice that Nicole Kidman's music began about 2min20, but she was in the middle of a speech about domestic violence, and the music was quickly cut off to let her finish talking about it. What does Sterling think if the Emmys cut off her off after 2 minutes, as he was, when she was talking about a neglected social issue that is completely relevant to her role? Sterling may have been facetious in his approach to this mention, but he does seem to hold a gripe. Why did Sterling describe Kidman as "white"? Does he really contend this was anything to do with race?

He's 100% right, they let Nicole ramble on and on and on right in the very beginning and from that point on, they kept making comments about how tight they were on time. They wouldn't have run quite that tight if someone had made her wrap it up 2 minutes or so earlier.

People who criticize him for his remark on Kidman need to hush. He made a point that was his to make. From the moment Sterling stood in front of the mic untill the music was played it was exactly 2 minutes. Kidman from mic till her self chosen walk off, was exactly 2.45 and they didnt cut the mic and turn off the light- THAT was super rude to him. These dumb guys from the emmys and alike forget that sometimes there are actually people who are having the night of their life and share their joy. And what do they do, go to commercial. And newsflash: We dont need Tom Cruise's ex-wife to educate us about domestic violence. Which in fact she wasnt doing anyway, she thanked everyone and added a single sentence to the effect of, sometimes actors can shed a light on an important issue. Wow, impressive. So really, in every aspect Sterling made a true statement.
@lucamolta
@lucamolta 6 лет назад
i actually think they time it from the moment their name is called i havent timed nics because i cant find it anymore, but from the moment sterlings name is announced to when they cut him off is exactly 2.40 so maybe that is why because nic took literally 15 seconds to get up on that stage.
@belenheredia2024
@belenheredia2024 6 лет назад
It's Emmy producers fault and of the director. You want respect for this big disrespect for this great actor, emmy award winner but you say Tom cruise's ex wife minimizing her career. I see the objectivity and the respect.. Fine!
@Andre-xt6yu
@Andre-xt6yu 6 лет назад
She wasn't educating no one, she was saying that domestic violence IS still a thing, she started talking about it after the 2m mark, the same time that Sterling gets cut off, now he was just thanking people, she starter talking about real issues, if they would have cut her speech, everyone would be saying that the emmys don't care about domestic violence
@gs2tab
@gs2tab 6 лет назад
Sterling Brown took issue as soon as the music started playing, despite the fact his speech was running over 2 minutes. No other actor's speech was longer than 100 seconds, except Sterling Brown and Nicole Kidman. Kidman had just started to speak about domestic violence around the 2min15 from the announcement she won. For a comparison, Sterling's music began over 2min30 from his announcement. Can you imagine the furor if the Emmys cut off Kidman during that section of the speech? I don't know why Sterling referred to Kidman as white in this segment. Is her race relevant in this? Did he need to say "white" as a descriptor to disambiguate from some Australian black (or other race) actress? Or was it a tacit way of claiming race was a factor in his treatment?

Max Meier . So you trying to be being fair And you just called her someone's ex. Why you degrading her? Tom was 16 years ago get over it. She doesn't need Tom or and other man to define herself. Cutting people in award show is not something new. That happens all the time.

As a white person in a family of many colors and with many friends of color over the past 45 years, it was apparent to me that we as a nation were NOT post-racial when Barak Obama announced his candidacy for the presidency. I was !!appalled!! at the number of people I knew who "came out" as full-fledged racists. I was disgusted, but mostly disappointed to learn that we were not post-racial at all. What I perceived as a not-perfect-but-much-better-and-improving attitude was merely a fragile veneer masking a much deeper, very ugly problem. Trump's own promotion of violence and support of white supremacy has ripped the lid off of this country. Maybe, in a sad way, he has done us a favor by showing us how much work is still to be done. Sad.

I agree that we must always recognize the differences between the various races, but why must we continue to be so hateful and primitive about it? One race does not really need to conquer or subjugate another. It seems to me that much more is to be gained by embracing and appreciating the differences. Is the species homo sapiens sapiens not yet intelligent enough to do this?
