It's actually one of the classic lines of the 50's. A chunk of the lyrics for this song were STOLEN from "Lovey Dovey" by The Clovers, which came out in in 1956. "I Said You're The Cutest Thing That I've Ever Seen I Really Love Your Peaches, Wanna Shake Your Tree Lovey Dovey, Lovey Dovey All The Time" --Ahmet Ertegun / Eddie Curtis
The age of 'dirty magazines hidden from mom'. Every boy going through puberty was thinking about a centerfold pic type image or girl at school outgrowing her training bra on "shaking peaches" image painted.
@@nazfrde Didn't know that. Well I'm glad Steve Miller persisted. Censorship was intense in 1950's. That was the era Elvis was boycotted for swinging his hips. 25 years later, Michael Jackson and others grabbing their junk, Robert Plant in see thru spandex no undies on stage, Davey Lee Roth copying Plant, LoL! 700 Club almost gone finally.
@@nazfrdeAt least according to Wiki, Ahmet Ertegun and Eddie Curtis are given writing credits on the song. If that was indeed the case on the original album cover as well, I'd say they likely had permission to 'sample' they lyrics and they were borrowed, not stolen.
"Sir, I did not inhale!" It was the breath of life for a few years. I got out of it eventually, but I do have some fond memories of those years, I think...
I'm a joker, I'm a smoker, I'm a midnight toker... what a great line, such a fun, fun song! Steve is singing, and he was playing the slide, they are Americans from San Fransisco, and they've been around since the late 60's. I've been blessed to see them play multiple times live over several different decades....always a sing a long fest because they've got a long list of hits, plenty in that bag to smoke on for sure fella's!
Not from San Francisco - Miller was born in Wisconsin, grew up in the Dallas area where he met Boz Scaggs and formed their first band. That said, very popular in the SF music scene of the mid to late '6os.
@@michaelfried3123 You said "they are Americans from San Francisco," and "they" would include him. Where somebody is "from" is where they were born, in my language.
Another great band. Love this song. Fun trivia: Les Paul was his godfather and taught him how to play guitar. At 12 years old Steve and Boz Scaggs formed a band. Back then we called him little Stevie Miller.
You guys gotta dive deep with Steve Miller Band, their one of those bands that can pull off just about any sound you can think of. I'm glad someone requested this because I was mulling around requesting them next month.
Thank you for the reaction. Suggestion their song, "Jet Airliner", written by a Rhode Island, blind Jazz musician, who only success and only income for the rest of his life were the royalties from Steve Miller Band for his song Jet Airliner.
I remember that album cover from when I was a kid, I'm 61 now, I remember YOUR CASH AIN'T NOTHIN' BUT TRASH is on that same album, and MARY LOU are the ones I remember.
this band reminds me of lazy weekday afternoon by the river on a hot summer day. Playing hooky from work with just a few close friends and our gals. BBQ going on. Music on speakers playing on the back of a pick up. Heck ya. Good times.
Guitar virtuoso Les Paul and his musical partner Mary Ford were regular visitors at the Miller house. The Millers were the best man and the matron of honor at the December 1949 Paul/Ford wedding. Paul became Steve's godfather.
Steve Miller - guitarist, singer, songwriter, producer. Born in Milwaukee, raised in Dallas, went back up to University of Wisconsin-Madison, spent his senior year in Europe, dropped out just a few units shy to graduate. He then went to Chicago to soak up the blues scene, moved down to Austin, then found his way to San Francisco which is where he formed the Steve Miller Band in 1966 (originally the Steve Miller Blues Band). He invited his childhood friend Boz Scaggs who was in Europe at the time to fill in for the guitarist / singer who quit. Boz is on the first two Steve Miller Band albums. Other comments will fill you in about his musical upbringing.
Just saw him in concert a couple of days ago...the man is almost 80! Amazing show. Cheap Trick was supposed to have opened for him but due to schedule change we got to see Kingfish! Awesome show.
I just found out very recently that Les Paul, who basically invented the electric guitar, was Steve Miller’s godfather! He saw Steve playing guitar at six years old and took him under his wing.
Fly Like An Eagle should be our USA National Anthem. Steve Miller Band had serious mojo and great songs. Original and well written and produced. You couldn't have your FM radio rock station on for 2 hours in 1980's without a Steve Miller song sneaking in there. Jet Airliner was probably overplayed. Fly Like An Eagle is really special. As is this. Bongloads tunage.
They began as The Steve Miller Blues Band and recorded a live album with Chuck Berry in 1967 called Live at the Fillmore Auditorium. I was 11 years old when The Joker hit the radios. I equate the first impact to a 4 year old seeing a butterfly for the first time. A complete state of wonder and just smiling all the time, trying not to burst in laughter. This song still makes me feel so good all these years later. Steve Miller himself is from Milwaukee but the band he formed was formed in San Francisco.
Gonna see them soon at the site of the original Woodstock concert! Can't wait. These boys will surprise you with their banging catalogue of music. Check them out fellas, you'll be glad you did! And you'll probably know more of their songs too.
@bullzeyez3236 I've been there once. I saw America and Michael McDonald. Very nice. CSN and Young had to be nice. I'm gonna check out the museum this time, around. Peace
While the band was formed in San Francisco, Steve Miller himself was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. His family moved to Dallas, Texas when he was 7. Fun fact: Steve's godfather is the legendary Les Paul.
A man you guys have to check out Take the Money and Run. It's just an incredible song all the way around and it's a total jam with great rhythmic devices and all kinds of stuff. Really, you could literally grab any song off of that original greatest hits album and it would be pure gold.
Stevie "Guitar" Miller...from the Midwest, Wisconsin to be exact. Yes he plays guitar and sings! He was huge in the mid-late 70's. When I was 12 "Fly like and Eagle" was my favorite song haha..
Steve Miller Band has a slow groove like nobody else. Keep On Rocking Me Baby and Fly Like An Eagle could play all day on a loop.✌️ Wild Mountain Honey...
Steve Miller is the singer, songwriter and guitarist. The band was founded in San Franciso and had multi-racial players. His band also launched the career of Boz Skaggs. Steve was taught how to play by absolute legend of music (music, equipment, and recording), Les Paul. Please read about the late great Les Paul. You will not regret it and will learn a lot. A brief summary would be a disservice.
Hi guys ... “space cowboy” and “gangster of love” are great Steve Miller songs also.... it’s his early material... both songs are worth a reaction... thanks ...
At 3:09 I like the way Miller makes the guitar sound like a cat-call whistle. I like when instrumentalists mimic another sound. You're reactions 👍. I like that you are musicians yourself. You really haven't gotten into Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, The Byrds, The Velvet Underground, The Kinks (early stuff) who are really the wellspring of the Rock movement after 1962, and Pink Floyd, The Beatles, The Who, Black Sabbath, Allman Brothers, Hendrix aside who you've heard some of. That's just Rock. The R&B subgenres created and changes in the 60s and 70s is a whole other paradise.
Hope you'll find your way to play " Electro Lux Embroglio /Sacrifice ". Best song from Steve Miller's Book Of Dreams LP. Features Les Dudek on the smoken 🎸
Steve Miller - Fly Like an Eagle on the Midnight Special , quite a bit different than the studio version probably his biggest hit after The Joker . Great talent from a family of musicians
I know I say this a lot but I remember my brother bringing that album home. He's 3 years older so I didn't have to buy albums until I was 14/ 15 years old 1974/75 Always my favorite but Jungle Love is pretty fun. Only saw him once but a great show.
Such a fun, hip song by Steve Miller. This was SO popular when it came out. Thanks so much guys for reacting to this one! Also check out "Living in the USA" & "Space Cowboy" by this great band if you haven't already.
Cool song hey guys, nice to know you love the Simpsons too. He's has some other cool songs too, delve deep guys. Steve Miller is the guitar player and singer as far as I know. Fly like an eagle is another great song of his.
Steve Miller was born and raised in Milwaukee Wisconsin. His mother was a blues singer and his pathologist das was a jazz recording engineer. He learned to play guitar from Les Paul who visited their home often.
The family migrated to the Dallas area in the late 70’s. I went to High school with his nephew in the late 70’s early 80’s. His parents lived not far from where I grew up (they had some of the the gold records in their entryway. He had a house in Dallas that many friends of mine got to visit with his nephew.
Steve Miller's first band had Boz Scaggs on rhythm guitar (also background vocals) & Ben Sidran ( jazz pianist, lyricist, journalist, radio and television producer, scholar, author and teacher) on keyboards. Originally from Texas, went to school near Chicago (hung and sat in with blues greats in the Chicago clubs), wound up in California. I saw them during his tour in Penn State University circa 1973/74. I told this story elsewhere a few years ago, but it points out the kind of man Steve is. Rick Roberts solo (Red Hot Flying Burrito Brothers, solo & FireFall) was the opening act. Steve came on he saw the security was getting handsy with the crowd pushing to the front (it was a low stage) it was turning into a hot confrontation possibly a riot. He stopped the performance, sent the band off, called a roadie to bring his acoustic guitar. He addressed the arena, saying to the effect (I don't remember verbatim) "Security they're only kids & kids stop trying to push your way onto the stage. Everyone calm down!" He did a few acoustic numbers by himself calming everyone down, then called the band back on stage and finished an amazing set. Kudos to Steve being the grownup needed at that moment. All his albums and bands are great.
Steve Miller was born in Milwaukee and spent his early childhood there before his family relocated to Dallas. He returned to Wisconsin for college and attended UW-Madison dropping out a few credits short of a literature degree.
Steve's dad was not only a doctor but a studio engineer, he and his wife were best man and matron at Les Paul and Mary Fords wedding, Les and Mary were Steve's God Parents
