"TAKE THE MONEY AND RUN" , "Jet Air Liner", "Fly Like An Eagle", and "Jungle Love". ALL CLASSICS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As a young woman of that era, a "joker", was a good hearted player. You did not put your heart on the line with these boys, because they were all the original free spirit. But they weren't users. They truly loved the women they were with, while they were with them. They really didn't want to hurt no one. You couldn't help but love them. And they were normally too cute for their own good.
Well said lady. I appreciate your point of view. I was a free spirit that never had an evil intent in my soul. I guess that was attractive to the ladies that I had an opportunity to know. I never hurt a soul or caused a long- lasting sorrow that I know of. (more the opposite heh).
My husband is the chief engineer for more than 20 radio stations here in the Shreveport area. One of his stations hosted Steve Miller in concert a few years ago. It was in the summer and an outside event. Steve was a total blast. He played non-stop for almost 4 hours. He was still smooth. It was a really fun concert!
Its 1973 I jump the fence of my backyard and I land on my elementary school. I notice a ring of teenagers sitting and smoking on the baseball field and I hear "The Joker" for the first time in my life. The kids are all smoking and having a good time listening to music, specifically this song. Little did I know how much I would end up loving "Steve Miller's music and especially this song. My mind immediately goes back to that time every time I hear this song. Truly a classic song of that era and any era.
If you lived in the suburbs in the '70s/'80s, you had these albums: Steve Miller Band Greatest Hits 1974-78, Fleetwood Mac - Rumors, Eagles - Their Greatest Hits 1971-1975 and Aerosmith's Greatest Hits (1980)
@@ChainedGraboidSure, their first album might have been released in ‘68 but their best days and greatest hits were from ‘74-‘78. So not really a 60’s band or 80’s band, but a 70’s band 🤪
This great song from 1973 actually hit number one in the UK in 1990 due to its inclusion in a Levi's jeans commercial. Other classic Steve Miller band songs worth listening to include "Jet Air Liner", "Fly Like An Eagle", and "Jungle Love".
The Joker is such a fun song. I can't help but smile every time I hear it. It reminds me not to take everything so seriously. Also, young Steve Miller was "the cutest thing" too! His vibe is adorable.
Love this song! Steve Miller Band has a lot of great songs! U really cant go wrong with any song off of their greatest hits album, but Rock n me, Dance dance dance, Swingtown, and Wild mountain honey are a few of my favs!
Rock n me , is 100% forever playlist , so is The things we do for love by 10cc Because , my still best friend and I Had a conversation of a sleep over at 9 ish And her favorite song was rock n me and mine was the things we do for love . It’s still comes straight to me head and back to that weekend everytime I hear either of them ! I have noticed time traveling with music is a lifelong thing I’ve been doing my entire life .
Research his blues background. His mother was a music teacher and his father also was into music and had a recording studio in their basement. Many old blues artists would Vista there regularly.
"Rockin Me Baby" is one of my favorites by Steve Miller. I remember hearing this song whenever I was 7 yrs old, back in 1973. I'm one of 13kids so I basically grew up listening to every genre of music From 1950s to present day. Im next to the youngest in my family, all my older sisters, listened to different types of music,so I've pretty much heard it all.❤.
The word "pompitous" or "pompatus" stems from Steve Millers mishearing of the phrase "puppetutes of love" in the 1954, Vernon Green song "The Letter" in which he used the words "puppetutes of love"... his combination of "puppets" and "prostitutes". A puppetute being a woman of your fantasies who would do.
Wolfman Jack used the phrase in his guest appearance with The Guess Who on Clap For The Wolfman, which I believe is from the same year (1974) as The Joker, or pretty close.
One of the best songs, one of the best bands. Smooth as silk, sharp as a knife. Music to listen to while sitting in a bean bag chair, just a little messed up and real relaxed.
I was 10 when this came out in ‘73! I remember hearing it with my friends and giggling about the peaches line! 🤭 Abracadabra is a great song but one of my favorites is Take the Money and Run! More SMB please!❤️🔥✌🏻🫶🏻
It is one of the all time greatest songs in rock history. Steve Miller meet and played with many of the best old blues guitarists. Steve Miller is a true icon….. His songs were on the radio regularly throughout the 80’s. “Take the money and run" "Fly like an Eagle" "Jet Airliner" were some big hits plus many others. It was my son who is 39yo first concert that I took him to.
This album is the BEST cruising album ever. Spent many a day in the 70's listening to this as we cruised around...Get into a car and pop this in, I bet you get a speeding ticket!! 😁
Funny story, I remeber hearing this song growing up. My 2 brothers and their friends would play it while they were "toking" in the back room of my mom and dad's house 40 years ago. Love this song. Sadly I lost my eldest brother in 1984.
Listened to the greatest hits a million times. Have never seen what the band looked like. Complete college summer music and it has transcended time. Tons of hits and many videos for you to do. I bet your viewer age on any Steve Miller song goes from 17-80.
This was my brother's mantra. He passed 10 years ago and we played it at his memorial service. My daughter and him used to sing it at random. Great memories!
70s my dsister liked country, i liked Rock..this is the Band we both enjoyed together..and45 years later we both went to their concert and got to relive our youth❤❤
Another Fun Fact: Steve MIller and Boz Scaggs went to high school together and started a band together. Boz was in the Steve Miller Band in the late '60's. Definitely check out Abracadabra, Jet Airliner and Fly LIke An Eagle. I am going to remind you of my suggestion to check out the Jeff Beck Group Album ('72) and the songs: "Ice Cream Cakes" and "Sugar Cane." Jeff Beck was a brilliant guitarist, from the UK, and passed away last year. Thank you for your consideration.
Steve Miller "Book of Dreams" along with Billy Joel "The Stranger", Meatloaf "Bat Out of Hell", Fleetwood Mac "Rumors", Steely Dan "Asa", Boston "Boston" and Chuck Mangione " Feels So Good" were some of the albums I ordered from Columbia House back when you got 13 albums for a penny. I don't recall the others that I ordered, but 13 were in the box when it was delivered. Thinking back, I don't think I fulfilled my contract to purchase an album each month for a year at full cost... I wonder if any teenager did. I should probably send them a check...
Oh how this takes me back to the 70's and 80's. Having field parties out in the farmlands or up in the cleared out spaces in the woods. Always on property we had permission to be on. Parties would last all weekend. We would pitch tents, drink keg beer and just have a great time. This song always got played at a field party.
When I was in 8th grade my gym teacher would play Steve Miller's greatest hits while we played " bombardment". I don't think you're allowed to play bombardment" in gym class anymore. Bombardment = dodgeball
I love dodgeball but... Man it sure hurt when you got belted in the head with it. It would take your breath away and your whole head would be stinging. It would almost put your body in a slight paralysis...it would take a little while to shake away the shock to your body
I always loved Steve Miller Band the first time I heard ‘Fly Like and Eagle’ so when I got a chance to see him in concert in 1988. He didn’t put on very good show. I am still glad I went.
The one and only time I ever skipped school and got caught, this is the 8 track we listened to ALL DAY LONG. Steve Miller Band,Greatest Hots. The best of times. I just didn't know it.
Steve Miller got me thinking of my days growing up listening to him at the roller rink !! Oh yeah ,, The Steve Miller Band and I can hear it blowing out the radio speakers 🔊 out .,, and singing along . Do , do , do do do ,, Living in the U.S.A ,, check it out . 🎶
I've been lucky enough to see these guys five times in my life and I thought they were amazing because in the same tour they would play huge venues and then much smaller ones. Just cuz they would go where their fans were and not have to make them travel hours. They really put on great shows for their fans. One of the best I've seen live for sure.
Such a deep rabbit hole to go down with the Steve Miller Band. Highly recommend Take the Money and Run, Jungle Love, Swing Town; they are three of my favourites, but there are so many. Great reaction and keep the SMB reactions coming.
This song is just pure sunshine.. can you see yourself cruising in a soft top with this playing…that guitar is the sea brushing on the sand …. No can do is ace.. just off to see your faithfully reaction
I remember exactly where I was when I heard this song for the first time. It was 1993, I got my first job at an amusement park in Tulsa Oklahoma called Bell’s Amusement park. I worked concessions and there was this ride called the Himalaya and the owner of the park only played 70s and 80s rock music. I was instantly obsessed and I rock Steve Miller Band still to this day!
I have this album! I still play my albums on Saturday afternoons, my great grandchildren get involved and then it gets really fun! However they treat Grandma's albums with the respect that they deserve and a good time is had all the way around!
The first time i heard Steve Miller was when my brother bought tha record (yes im that old) Fly Like an Eagle. I have been a fan forever and got see him live a few years ago and was not disappointed. One of my favs is Dance, Dance, Dance.
