So glad to see that wrist brace off. He spoke about it and it in an interview. Knowing Morse, he'd figure out a one handed technique. Such a nice person to speak with. Always smiling and humble.
@Siloguy
@Siloguy 3 года назад
I've seen him in other videos not wearing it and going back to his original picking style before , he can do it for short periods of time, if he's doing a 2 hour deep purple show then he wears it and uses that picking using elbow movements...I can see why he used that style originally, he loves string skipping and pulled it off there so easily.

@@Siloguy Ah, the ravages of a lifetime of alternate picking! Yeah, it's very hard on the wrist. Also, consider that Morse is actually left-handed. He's a guitar trooper. One of my favorite players of all time.

I remember when we were all young guitar players and I would turn all my friends on to the early Dixie Dregs stuff. Made a lot of them just give up from the shock of watching him play. A few of us just got more inspired and are still playing guitar to this day. He has been amazing since ... well forever. Then I was grateful to get to see him live and go back stage during some interviews. After a 2+ hour gig he played guitar non-stop the whole time during the interviews, never missed a lick!

I met him (and Dave LaRue) a couple of times after gigs- sometimes they would stay after and meet those who hung around. I left thinking "this guy is a for real good guy". Steve’s compositions are jaw-dropping amazing! For those created back in the 70’s (Ice Cakes, What If Album) (Punk Sandwich, Night of the Living Dregs LP) And 80’s with Assembly Line, Blood Sucking Leeches, Vitamin Q , Industry Standard LP, all are just as relevant today as then. And what can we say about his 1989 release of “High Tension Wires”? To listen to Highland Wedding, Country Colors , and Tumeni Notes along with the other compositions is an experience that brings me deep appreciation for his mastery of the instrument and wizardry of compositions skills. And look what he is doing today with Deep Purple, Flying Colors and Steve Morse Band. His is amazing! Love his work too with Bassist Dave LaRue. They are great together! Peace all!

Steve, I am holding the pick between my thumb and two fingers, because I think my pick grip is what is slowing me down, and otherwise I would play just like you...but I wish you would go into detail about the angle of the pick to the string; and, does the middle finger do most of the work (so to speak) or do the two fingers equally squeeze the pick? Is it the tips of the fingers that touch the pick or the fingerprint that grips it.? Just in case you read these comments, that is... I used to have a book by Ben Hogan the golfer and he took you through how he gripped the club in minute detail, like the "V" made by the thumb and first finger should be pointed towards your left shoulder and he even talked about how much each muscle in the hand is supposed to be doing, etc. So, I think maybe you could grab a pick in ultra slow motion and it would show things like, do the fingernails touch the pick or is it at a flatter angle...and you could monetize it somehow...I mean, I'm not just trying to get free advice from Steve Morse, LOL Knowing you, you will say you have to move the pick around and experiment to find what feels right for you, but as a starting point it wouldn't be bad to hold the thing the exact same way as the Morse-ster! Thanks in advance for the closeup of your picking hand; Subscriber Daniel

Morse is the dogs' bollox, I personally think the solo in the Kansa song "Three Pretenders" is the most perfect example of a solo, in the middle of a great song ever recorded, it's got emotion, feel, tone, speed, context with the song, everything, and if you had never heard it, but you were familiar with other Morse tunes, it should be instantly recognisable as a Steve Morse solo.
