So much of what Steve(via Sweetwater) says resonates with me. I'm 52, started playing in 1980 and ran the path that he describes.... to an extent. Always listening and watching. Alway inspired, always looking for something different. It ultimately came from within. Although "a nobody," I'm content with how my day develops and how guitar is a part of my life, let alone my family's influence and involvement.

This is really timely, I'm 71 and have been messing with a guitar for the last 10 year and never got anywhere watching RU-vid videos. I decided I need to learn theory so I would know what a add 9 or sus4 means. I found Steve Stine online course for theory and must say it has cured all my misconceptions about music I had in a easy to follow course. I believe I have more progress playing in the last 4 month than in the last 10 years. So with my new found enthusiasm for playing, I bought a new guitar from guess who ? Sweetwater! they have such great customer service and selections. I guess I'm the poster boy for both Sweetwater and Stine's Guitar Zoom courses. Or is it now called fan boy ? Thank you both.

We all had to learn the hard way: by ear. I learned the entire British Steel, nightcomers (Holocaust) and tons of NWOBHM riffs that way.

That is a good practice Steve to do what you did at a early age .I,ve followed the same rule also along with lessons way back andit certainly has kept my playing interesting to hear.I get licks at times in my head and go to my guitar and usually find the chord and riff and play it

I can't tell you how many cassettes I ruined got eaten by the cassette player from constantly rewinding them to learn a lick I finally bought a record player lol got odays playing guitar today learning guitar today rather would be so much easier but only thing I really see alot of people are getting really good but they have no ear like Steve said developing a good ear it's priceless more important than reading music in my opinion. Randy Rhoads was a huge influence he's the reason I started playing guitar listening to the song I don't know and grim reaper and Metallica etc.

Good stuff but Steve... ugh... if you're an Angus fan you know he has a clean tone, it's just played with aggression. Love the Diary though, one of my favs.
