Steve Stine Guitar Lessons Hi Steve, thank you for sharing your music knowledge in all stages. I referred a friend to this particular session. He got very confused with your 1, 4, 5 technique. though you show and explain the key of “G”, in the bar chord form using the 1, 4, 5 technique, it was incredibly confusing. One would assume the finger/hand position on fretboard would move down the neck 1 fret, then 4 frets and 5 frets. To be honest, I too was a bit confused (from “G” why do you move the bar toward the hi “B” string, followed 2 frets down the neck each step. each.sorry if I confused you. Dann

I wish all theory teachers were as clear, concise and able to communicate as Steve does. I play piano and did a fair amount of theory. Simply WOW! I cannot believe how simple this is, I've been playing guitar for pretty much a decade and never even realised this, it seems so obvious and I feel like an idiot! Especially as you can apply the modes to each note of the major scale as you go along the 7 notes - ionion, dorian, phrygian, lydian, myxolidian, aeolian and locrian. From here you can identify the chord that a chord progression 'resolves' on and use the corresponding mode to solo over that chord progression with ease.

My knowledge is once again enriched. Thanks! To sum it up, the 1st, 4th, & 5th notes in the diatonic major scale are major. The 2nd, 3rd, and 6th are minor. The 7th is diminished. We can use this idea to identify chords progression in any song. We can track any progression by simply looking for the right root note on the 6th string, and the rest of the notes would follow (it makes life easier since you don't have to worry about the root notes in the other strings once you get familiar with only the 6th string. Hail 6th string!). Just make sure that you identify correctly the tonal chord of the song. You can transform each note that's been given a function into its own chord, which is in barre chord shape, or any chord shapes you are familiar with.

dre cristo There is no difference except for how many notes you are playing per string. I think the reason Steve used 3 notes per string is so that the majority of the chords can be played with roots on the 5th and 6th string to keep the chord shapes simple.

This is incredible. These videos have helped me so much when everyone else is trying to explain and exploit I get lost in the language even though it’s English this is the best way to help me get that aha moment and it work I watch the top players of all ages plus the great celebrities that influence me and this helps bring it all together. I have only been playing since sept 2019 . got a gutair given to me and i started teaching myself. I to you-tube for help. Came up on Steve Stine after the first video i wacted of his i was hooked. You sir are a phenomenal teacher. I not only was able to teach myself to match my vocals using the Do Ra Me Fa So La Ti Da method while also playing this, but i could literally throw on a tuner and pretty much match it to G, A, B, C, D, F#, E and its literally the alphabet at this point and i can play it forewords and backwards no problem. You sir, get my many many thanks. I can now understand keys and am totally sold on the methodology of music theory. I have played natural for years and this is easily one of the most influential channels on youtube for myself. You deserve a spot at Fordham.

This is the best video I have seen of his so far and anyone else for that matter. Steve, you are a really excellent teacher. My favorite on RU-vid to be honest. Thank you for showing first and explaining later- helps me a lot! I'm a singer-songwriter and understand piano a bit and play guitar but never really understood the fret board and this helps a lot! I can start really practicing the scales with the minor chords now in a complete sequence (progression) ( and write more dynamically and look forward to learning major scales on here (finger work). I was getting tired of I, IV, V all the time and just arpeggios on them. Also always playing at the top of the neck for songwriting gets boring ( and limited unless capo). So thank you! -Michelle

hey Steve...man you are an amazing teacher!..I've been teaching for close to twenty years and have struggled explaining things to students sometimes.you have opened up so much for my playing and my approach on teaching.really glad I came across your videos and will tune in regularly..thank you and happy holidays..Myke

I'm teaching my eight-year-old daughter to play, and I have learned, knowing how to play doesn't mean you can teach. Your lessons are very helpful. Thanks for posting. Keep up the good work.

An important lesson. I figured this out after taking lessons and Finally accepting that I should learn scales. Knowing this helped me with guitar and bass especially when playing with others and not knowing the song.
