This is the actual recovery process of the F350. Notice in several shots of this video there are only 2 tires of the wrecker touching the ground. And for all you Cummins fans out there, Yes thats a Dodge 5500 pullin out that big Ford.
It sure takes talent to be a good tow truck driver and I don’t care what anyone says. You have to know what your doing or many could get hurt and maybe even lose the tow truck too. Great job guys and thanks for sharing.
With the size of his light duty wrecker... the heavy weight of that lifted one ton dually with larger tires, gradient resistance added, the steep gradient resistance & miring resistance... it wouldn't have pulled it parallel. or it would've bent that light duty boom. Even a straight on rear twin line pull was clearly maxxing out that truck.... sure, a medium or heavy could do it... but for the size of the recovery truck... he did it correctly. and obviously.. traffic was almost non existent & not held up or delayed . he did fine for the equipment he had.
I've done more with less but that was a long time ago before I got "smart" and realized that there is a truck for every situation. as a CIRT instructor that's one of the points I stress constantly.
some tow truck drivers do the best they could with what they bring to the table. Thats one of the lessons i learned from level 1 training many years ago from The God Father of towing. RIP SC. This is actually a good training video on how to do it another way...
he does have it on a high idle system cuz most likely his winch system is running off the idler shaft in either the transmission or the transfer case as either a hydraulic pump or as a chain drive
maybe he didnt have a spade. i definitely would have used mine. but then again i probably would have called someone else. i wouldnt use my 2 ton for this
all the strain was because you don't use the wheel lift for any kind of support, that's why the front wheel came off the ground, they make wheel chucks for that
That's a lot of stress on that equipment, I would've done the recovery with a 20 ton but that's just me and if you like it I love it. For the record I own a 35 ton and to all the operators out here whether you drive a 10 ton to a 70 ton rotator
Looks like a lot of stress on that Dodge 5500 frame and the wheel lift pulling a F-350 with 22.5 tires sideways up an embankment. I believe that is a Century 412 since it only has one cyl. for the boom. That is a light duty unit doing the job of a medium duty if you ask me.I like the part of him shaking his head about taking it to the shop of the owners choice, but I can't blame him he will make more off storage than he does for the recovery!!
nice recovery work good job and some people think this work is easy if every in new york stop in and see us prestige towing harris n y old rt 17 at exit 102
@ John Appleseed- Wow, you sure put me in my place. You're a pretty sharp fella', what with your quick witted and intelligent reply. Your intelligence astounds me.
It IS textbook what we get asked to do ALL the time in the tow industry. SHP calls and says GET IT OUT. And they dont want to hear "The proper way is going to take more time and another truck." However, as the operator, you HAVE to take charge of the scene and take care of the equipment, and your own safety. There were multiple times in that video that I cringed for the operator's safety.
on wreckes your suppose to pull up and get out and look how your gonna do it then put your truck where needs to be where you recover out what your recovering without haveing to move the wrecker any where you pull it straight out to your wheel lift then hook and go police dont like you to half to keep movin around they want you to hurry in a safley manner get it out and get gone cause whatever wrecker service is the quickest and the safest and the best is the one they will call the most
I just bought a 2005 F250 and read the manual. Ford states that these trucks can lose control and go where you don't want them to. They are heavy and tall but the worst thing is our roads are designed to throw you down a hill and trap you in a ditch with no possibility of recovering your wayward truck. Now look at the bright side. Firemen and tow truck drivers get something to do and make a little money. The auto repair guys have work and don't forget the hospital. Heck this truck most likely is totaled so the local dealership gets to sell another vehicle. This is another version of trickle down economics, the poor saps insurance money gets thrown all around this great nation of ours. After this wreck the tow truck operator will shine up his truck and the hospital will clean the bed sheets and restock, waiting for the next unlucky person to do it all over again. Any body can see that if some deer jumps out in front of you here you have no where to go but down in the ditch. Always wear your seat belt. On TV the other day they actually showed some poor guy being whipped out the drivers window from a truck like this and must have gone up in the air over 20 feet looking like a rag doll after he rolled it about 8 times. I think he lived though. The first thing the anchor man said though was"no word on whether alcohol or drugs were involved." Like that somehow makes it okay to relish in the spectacle of these wrecks and peoples misfortune.
+Tim Steinkamp Some years back on I 80 in Sacramento, I saw a old lady do that, she was in her auto shoulder belt but not her lap belt, and when she flipped her Subaru wagon and the door flew open, she went out, killed her. I think she had some medical thing that cause her to loose control on a straight hwy like she did.
I know this was 8 years ago so I hope you figured out he double lined ( 4 lined ) with a snatch block on each line hooked to the Ford. If you pause or pay attention at the begin when the winch lines are free spool you can see the snatch blocks.
haha thats funny that cummins fans really think it this video has anything to do with engine in the tow truck!!!!!!! keep reaching boys. and on a side note, nice recovery with that small of a truck. well done.
When he got the Ford out of the ditch, why didn't he reposition the wrecker and pull out the Ford from the back instead of the side whereas the right side wheels of the wrecker were coming off the ground.
It seems better idea put the cables. In the front of the truck.and pull the front end up first .also positon the truck parallel to the truck but ahead enough. So by the time the cable winds in the truck is almost on the flat and ready to be hooked. Drop it in neutral and let the trans toast.if its going far away.
I like how the authorities shut down the road for him. Don't get that driving wrecker in Montana. And that operator needs some Wreckmaster training. I hope that abuse doesn't catch up to you.
@@9carcottrell246 Somehow I think if you truly had one because of all the cost associated with it " payments Lic Insurance Permits ETC " that you'd out working it instead of watching youtube.
Drag truck perpendicular to tow rig up steep incline with boom high = most force required on winch and tow truck, good way to catch a broken cable in the head.
Rookie. He should've parked his truck on the other side of the road facing away from the wrecked truck, Or camera view. Put the wrecked truck in park. grabbed the right front with J-hook, Or wrap a chain through Lower frame, (on low end) and winched it all the way out in one shot. 10-15 minutes at max. The road would be blocked regardless. I miss this shit. lmao
@@PaulJersey He used his underlift as a spade, which you aren’t supposed to do. He would’ve had an easier recovery and not have the front end of the truck come off the ground if he pulled it out at an angle. Just a lot of things that wouldn’t happen with proper training.
not bashing casue everyone has their way of doing things but i would have grabbed both drivers side tires with endles loops pulled it right up the bank sideways and on the street taken the wrecker and put it further away from the bank according to wreckmaster that truck is being overworked but he lines and the boom are within spec just seems that he could have done the recoveryt in one shot instead of re hooking the lines and re positioning the truck but either way the job got done no one was hu
bit late but the higher rev is for hydraulics as it has a high current draw on battery and higher revs makes the alternator work at its best capacity easing the stress on the battery alone.
I ain't gonna beat ya up, you got the job done BUT I would have called back for a medium. If your PD dispatch is like mine the call came in and they never mentioned that its a 1 ton dually down in the ditch.
