Yes tjustin... IMHO also... !!! And always has been.. has never, EVER gotten half the recognition he deserves as a singer, OR as a musician... again, in MHO...thank you..😊😊
I had the same remark about an immature person who made a similar remark about the song Whiskey Lullaby. Both this song and WL were written by Bill Anderson.
I cry every time. My heart breaks for him. He was young and foolish (as we all were) and didn't listen to our hearts. Instead I listened and observed my mother scrutinizing every move my "friend" made and so did he. It was too much. And now I'm crying again.
Jessica, I am that old man, just not THAT old man. I sit alone in the in the park where she and I used to go almost every day with the same regret, sadness and despair. A small piece of my heart dies every time my mind rewinds the clock that was once "us".
Happens a lot more than most men realize! So bittersweet! One that I had to move away from, I lost track of her and cannot find her, when the realization that someone you loved comes to you may never see her again in your lifetime! That just never occurred to me, but just think of some of the friends you went to school with, how many of them if you wanted to call them or visit them could you get in touch with? Most of mine I would not have the first clue of where to look!
@Chef Mime "The Tip of My Fingers," also titled "The Tips of My Fingers," is a song written and originally recorded by American country music singer Bill Anderson. First included on his 1962 album Bill Anderson Sings Country Heart Songs, the song was a Top Ten country single for him in 1960.
@@billeverett429 That is correct ,Bill Anderson wrote it and I am sure that he was happy that so many other people recorded it because he made money off of everyone of their recordings also !!!
I had one slip thru my fingers I was 18 she moved away never herd from her again. Im 67 now. I still think about her and what mite have been. I can't listen to this song without tears.
You slipped right through my hands, Carey. Somebody took you when I wasn't looking. I'm healthy, happy and successful, but regret I missed the Grand Prize, you. Love You.
The late great, "Whispering Bill" Anderson wrote and originally recorded this song. Bill didn't get a push for "Tips of my fingers", Joe Allison brought the song to Roy Clark and told Roy this is a hit song, Roy recorded it and had great success and so did Eddy Arnold, Jean Sheppard and Steve Warner. This isn't only a 5 time hit, it's pure country gold.
I never wanted to be that old man... Life is painful and it's devastating to spend it and die alone, and I lost my precious Arlene. She left me for someone else. The tears fall freely.
@@delphinereynolds6695 I am sorry for your loss and I understand how you feel. I had to do some deep digging, thinking and research and I discovered by her actions and how she reacts that she's severely bipolar and has been mentally abused by men in her past. Her condition is what caused her to behave like this. There's always underlying reasons why people do the things that they do. Blessings and peace!
Every time I hear this song it reminds me of a girl that I knew back in the 80s that I went to school with, and she was crazy over me and I was young and stupid I kept letting her go so many times until she gave up on me and got married and every time I hear this song and watch the video of that old man it reminds me of me.
Back in these days if you were listening to Steve Wariner,Vince Gill, Ricky Skaggs,Patty loveless, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band Etc you can hear them backing each other on several songs. Great era in country music 80's and early 90's were awesome
Many versions but this one by far has the most emotion of any of them. I saw Steve Wariner in Edmonton in March 1992 with the girl I loved more than life itself so every time I hear this it makes me think of that time. Her name was Carrie Ann Russell and she was my first true love. It was not meant to be and now I have the greatest wife in the world and would not change anything. If not for Carrie though my life would have taken a different direction and would have never met Heather. Love Steve and he is an amazing song writer also.
When that I had your love " kicks in , oh my goodness, what a voice Steve Wariner is one of God's gifts to the world ❤️ when country music was Country music ❤️ One of my Favorite Song❤️. I love that song so much I love Steve Wariner so much ♥️💞💝❤️🩹🧡💜💙💚💓💛🔥💯🎶🎤🎵💋💋🎸🥰🦊💘🤩💖💕🌹😍😘❤️
This is the song that converted me to country music. On a family trip when I was about 15 years old (probably around 1991) going to see some relatives in Overton Nevada we stayed the night in Mesquite. The clock radio in the hotel room would only pull in country stations. This song was playing that morning and it clued me in that country music was not all about getting drunk and honkey tonking, or getting drunk and driving through a corn field, or something about beer or whiskey (a lot of stupid songs played on country stations these days). There was some good emotion involved in some of it. I've been a country music fan ever since
I love Steve Warner and I had a privelage to see him in person in Tombstone Junction ,Whitley county Ky in the 80 s I kissed him on the cheek .He's an awesome entertainer ! Played The hand that rocks the cradle ,at my Mothers funeral !😍
Geez that was painful to watch and listen to. I’ve lived it as I’m sure many of us have. Leaving this earth without the one you’re supposed to be with is the scariest and most painful thing I can think of. 😪😪😪
28 year old still listening to them . Since I was 12 ❤️. Country music was pure pure . Country music told like stories !! Beautiful I have an ol ol soul . The country gospel is so beautiful as well continue to praise the Lord !
The first time I ever heard this song was your concert Edmonton Alberta in 1992. There may be older versions but yours is absolutely the best! I heard this song with my girlfriend Carrie Ann Russell so it always brings back good memories of times past.
nemesisgenius yes, I remember very well. That’s when my mama used to tour with Ronnie Milsap. I got to meet many of the great country singers, back when country music sounded country.
nemesisgenius Ronnie and his wife Joyce are both two of the nicest people I’ve ever met. Ronnie’s best friend Billy Coren was my mama’s manager. Her album back then was being played nationwide. One of her songs even made it on the charts and David Allan Coe wanted them to record a song together. But singing isn’t all peaches and cream like people think so mama backed out. But it was fun to get to always be back stage at places like the grand ole opry and meet all the great singers, especially the ones who are no longer with us.
@@wandamccarter5494 No, he introduced it to a new generation. It was in the top 10 in 1960 by Bill Anderson. Roy Clark took it into the top 10 in 1863 and Eddy Arnold took it to number 3 in 1966. So over a period of 6 years 3 different artists took it into the top 10. I think that means it was famous before Steve Wariner's version went to number 3.

Wow Steve what an awesome song...... If I wrote this I would be so amazed with the passion that I had harnessed into this song..... I have always been a fan and will be forever, the whole world has enjoyed your talent , and I for one do truly enjoy your music! Hopefully I will learn this song in the future and do a cover on it..... I could never do it justice, my greatest hope is ......I hope they can recognized it LOL! Be wishes to you and yours.... Be safe ! Oh I almost forgot..... most of the Country music songs these days say the same ol thing..... "lets drive my truck thru this one horse town and go down to the river and drink beer with the tail gate down" they really suck these days !

@Chef Mime Hi There welcome to the Southern hemisphere of Auckland New Zealand,, You are right mate about "Roy Clark" (Who could play just about anything), but this was a great version by SW.
This has always been one of my favorite Steve Wariner recordings! When you combine Steve with Whispering Bill's song with Vince Gill singing harmonies, it seriously would be hard to get any better!!! I'm not sure that I've ever seen the video, though. It fits the song perfectly. Thanks so much for the post!!
@Chef Mime don't think anyone stole it from anyone just rerecorded it like many other great singers do. Heard Roy sing it and was awesome .Heard Bill Anderson was awesome now Steve equally awesome ..
82 years old here. This song has ruled my life for the better part of 60 years. I first heard it in 1961 at my first concert. "Whispering Bill" sang it and I haven't been free of it since. Then this video came out and I turned into a puddle.
