This guy is awesome, whoever holds the record doesn't matter, at the end of the day we all can see who he is an admire him from that documentary. Wish you all the best in your life Steve.
he comes on the show in plain old jeans & sneakers! He's a truly decent person. I liked this movie so much, happy that the true winner came out on top at the end!
Steve wiebe is an example human being. through adversity he stayed strong and wont let ppl keep him down. we could all learn something from steve. Best wishes to him and his family
I adore him. He has such a good heart and I nearly cried when i saw his pain as Billy Mitchell swooped in with his fake video score. You can see its not about donkey kong....its so much more than that...its about fighting against the big headed d*cks who love putting us hard working little people down! Everyone knows a Billy Mitchell in life! Team Wiebe!
Steve! I ran into Dave at Victor's Coffee Shop and he told me that you were the King of Kong. Well here you are. It's good to know that you are doing fine and God Bless you and your family. Hector (from Secor)
Steve Wiebe is a great guy, and his wife is a real jewel for standing by him through all this. I was an arcade freak in the 80s with some impressive scores of my own - though nothing in this league - and unless you're into it you have no idea just what an emotional investment it can be. I guess the closest comparison today would be some of the Guitar Hero champions - same principles apply with that style of game (reflexes, timing and memorization of patterns).
i've spent over 400 hours and $3000 dollars on the board and cabinet since seeing the movie getting high scores and have accomplished a high score of 343,000 without dying. Soon i will be the king of kong
the thing is Billy made a big deal about how he submitted a video of his high score and the Billy did the same thing and expected everyone to kiss his arse
People (like Billy Mitchell himself) have come out and said Mitchell's portrayal in The king of Kong isn't exact, that he's not really a jerk like he was depicted in the documentary... yeah, bullshit. The stuff that was shown is enough to discredit Mitchell and Twin Galaxies as even remotely honest and well-intended. Wiebe, in my eyes, is still THE top player of DK, and I hope he get's that record again someday. He deserves it.
The only late night talk-show I watched was Conan when he followed Leno, so I'm no expert on who's good/funny or drunk on late night. I'm not sure, but I think Ferguson was an alcoholic but he's been sober for about a decade. I always just figured he was just Australian, but he really does seem drunk or at least a little tipsy in this.
Steve Wiebe is a cool guy and has the heart of a champion. Billy is a champion(if you check twin galaxies he beat Steve again unfortunately AT LEAST he isn't #1 some other guy is) who has the heard of a douchebag. Steve Wiebe is the TRUE champion in my eyes.
I was bored and looking for a movie to watch earlier today. I googled best documentaries of the decade and I went with "The King of Kong" from the list, which I'd never even heard of. At the very beginning I recognized Billy from some short news clip on Pac-Man. I decided that I was going to buy his sauce instead of Tobasco next time I run out. Not anymore after seeing the movie. That guy is a prick. Every gamer wants to score as high as they can, but this guy takes it to a ridiculous leve
Don't be so hard on Billy, if he wasn't portrayed as the ''asshole'' the documentary wouldn't have been nearly as good. Everybody rooted for Steve Wiebe while everybody seems to hate Billy Mitchell. That's what made the movie so good. Traditional good guy/bad guy... I like Steve Wiebe much more, he's such a humble guy.
i love both why so much hate for billy? hes a fucking legend nothing but admiration for both of them i suppose the weak and insecure are offended by confidence, for the reason that it is a foreign concept to them, and thus have none
RAPEE APE There's a difference between confidence and arrogance. Billy didn't even want to acknowledge Steve when he saw him at the competition, one that he flew 3000 miles to get to, where Billy traveled 10. Steve looked from the screen and greeted him with, "Hey Billy" and he straight up ignored him. Talented, yes. But a respectful human being? That's a grayer area.
yeah hes def an asshole like that but nevertheless we love him with people we take the good and the bad no man is wholly charismatic or inviting. youll find that the most powerful of people are polarizing. billy is no exception
You know after watching King of Kong and seeing the video that Mitchell sent in with his score of over a million, i think he cheated on that video. Why in the hell would the video only mess up were the score was and why did it jump up by thousands after the blur.
Ferguson is very pleasant, but I wish he would just give Steve a chance to talk once in a while...must be the comedian's impulse to constantly joke or talk over someone...
