I stopped watching bond when they made him blonde. So I'm probably more picky than crowder, but for different reasons, I also do not wish to see a Black James Bond. (yes I'm black) The only reason I'd want to see a Black James bond is only if to piss crowder off for making this racist segment.

As a black man who is a lifelong James Bond fan (I even play baccarat), 007 could never be one person for 60 years. There are nine 11's and they have to change because of age or death. I was born in England, proof that there is more than one race that comes out of the country. He made mention of a black James Bond being in Russia - what about a white James bond (Roger Moore) running around in the all balck area of New Orleans (conspicuously) in live and Let Die. Or Sean Connery in the Caribbean in the first flick of Dr. No. Their collective racism and racist tropes (the spy will be late) are not missed by anyone. i love the way he goes to african americans too, "theres enough african americans who are in action movies...." as if african american is another term for black person. what does any of this have to do with americans? you know what we dont need? an american james bond, thats a line we dont need to cross. an african american should not be the next bond, nor should a white american. should the next james bond be idris elba or henry cavill? either is fine, skin colour is not being injected into that choice, its irrelevant to the choice. being upset that one is black is what is inappropriately bringing skin colour into the conversation. james bond is british, any brit can be james bond, thats as racially tight as the brief gets. i think british people are quite capable of making thse decisions according to our own world view without americas absurd racial segregation tendencies once again being imposed on our culture.

Most James Bond films aren’t even about James Bond going undercover in Siberia. Most of them deal with Spectre as the villain, a fictional multinational terrorist organization with a pretty vague ideology. Plus Die Another Day opened with Pierce Brosnan going undercover in North Korea. Nobody demanded they needed an Asian actor because the plot simply had Bond undercover as an international arms dealer.

Or maybe its just a weird decision to cast a black actor to play James Bond who has always been traditionally white. I'm not saying you shouldn't do it, but I don't think such a casting choice adds anything to the character but might turn off longtime fans of the 007 franchise, not out of racism but out of a losing that feeling of nostalgia for the character is no longer the same one that they know and love.

Too late. The first James Bond on screen was Barry Nelson as James Bond. The series Climax! did Casino Royale in 1954. Bond was an American. As I recall, Bond's agency was never named, but was clearly the CIA.

Idris would be well into his 50's by then and it's a very physically demanding role. Not saying it's impossible but... there's better options. He could be a great villian though...

Yeah, it's a shame he seems dead against it himself as I've been rooting to see him as Bond even if just for a movie since I've been watching things he was in as far back as the first Luther season. A double shame they tried making the movie spin off of that like a half sincere, half spoof of Bond because it doesn't fit the character, but everything else hee's been in bad or good he just exudes that charm that's part of the character. Honestly I think the only way you could cross the line with Bond is if he didn't have a british accent or even worse English was his second language or something.

@@spiritunbound9414 The Last Of Us has some black characters and a lot of LGBTQ characters, especially in the second game. When the second game came out, people like Crowder got angry because it featured a muscular woman and a trans character in important roles. And from what I read about the HBO series, the first season will follow the story of the first game and put more emphasis on some characters that played only a minor part. For example, there is a character called Bill who was hinted at to be gay and his part of the story will be more elaborated. And since the franchise, and its creator Neil Druckmann, are known to be very progressive, I'm pretty sure conservatives are going to get royally pissed.

It would make no sense to have him be white because no white people are native to Africa. Black Widow is from Cold War Russia, hence why she would only be white. The Sovient Union was extremely xenophobic in that time period. The male part has no bearing here, because they didn't change Bond's gender, so you can't even use that arguement. Now, the reason it makes sense here is because modern day Britain isn't only made up of white people. This isn't the year 1583. It's a melting pot country in modern day. James Bond is actually supposed to be Scottish, so they've actually fucked it all up since Connery left. Your arguement holds literally zero water because you're comparing apples and oranges.

It would also make for an interesting development of the character. Daniel Craig's Bond is a lot more conflicted in his relation to the British state than previous Bonds have been, acknowledging the abuse he suffers in service of his country, and how often the loyalty he shows isn't reciprocated. It wasn't incredibly nuances, but it did add some depth to the character. Creating a version of Bonds who's non-white and from a former British colony would be a great chance to make him a more compelling character. I would love to see a Bond who has to deal with the knowledge that his superiors and coworkers don't consider him an equal by default. It could be something like the Harry Palmer stories.

Same deal when Mos Def was cast as Ford Prefect. Even worse there because Ford isn't even supposed to be an actual British guy, or even a _Homo sapien._ He's of a different species from somewhere in the vicinity of Betelgeuse, so it's not like he can reasonably be expected to have any specific default skin color. I remember asking if it was really so unthinkable that a black guy could believably claim to be from Guildford (besides which, Ford is said to be thought of by people as being a bit odd). I never got an answer.

One of my favorite things is seeing racist jokes go right over Sam's head because he's too wholesome to even think that way. EDIT: Y'all I get it, the joke went over your head too. But this isn't the first time this has happened with Sam. When H3 snuck him into Crowder's show the whole "button eyes" and "take off your glasses" thing went over his head too. I had never heard the stereotype that Jewish people have beady eyes but I immediately guessed it was a racist thing. So, yeah I am not just talking about this one time. No it's not, James Bond is the characters name. 007 is the rank which is why there is a new 007 in the upcoming film. That's a nice theory but doesn't hold much water when they literally go to the Bonds home in Skyfall and his family are referenced in earlier films. You don't need a white James Bond, you have a white James Bond. It's called James Bond. You're completely glossing over his entire point, which is two-fold. 1) There are people calling for James Bond to be black in order to represent, which is silly. If he ends up being black, he ends up being black. But to call for it because the James Bond franchise needs to become inclusive is ridiculous. 2) As Crowder said, there's already plenty of black action heroes who have done incredibly well. The fact that people think there is any lack of diversity is crazy, and just trying to change classic characters in order to meet diversity quotas instead of just making new, cool characters is a terrible method that's very hit or miss, usually miss as we can track with today's box office. Overall, Crowder's point isn't that he's afraid of a black James Bond, but he's pointing out how ridiculous it is that these calls for inclusion and perceived quotas of necessary diversity even exists, which is true.

I'm English and confess to being a Bond fan since i was a kid in the 70's (Roger Moore, Live & Let Die) so I used to get the Christmas Annual/Book for 007 every year. It had a Bio in their and it stated "His father is Scottish and his mother is Swiss" no mention of race so theoretically since the British Empire included Africa, Jamaica etc Bond could well be a Black man.

@Wahabpatelkin Honestly it really shouldn't matter... Captain America is black now, and no one is in kahoots about it. Just like with video games, it's not uncommon for there to be fundamental storyline changes or character renditions. It's an asinine thing to care about. Even if James Bond has previously only been portrayed Scottish, the movies are all loosely connected to begin with, so it didn't really phase me if they change how he looks

The irony is that James Bond was actually based on a mixed-race diplomat from the Dominican Republic, Porfirio Rubirosa. According to forensic historian Daniel J. Voelkner, James Bond's character drew inspiration from a person of color, it is now ironic he cannot be played by a person of color.

The more Crowder avoids it, the more I wanna see it, and the more I would rather listen to Seder's show than his. LOL! I feel the need to clarify my last comment. In no way was I implying that Seder's co-host could not be a Diesel Mechanic. LOL! My point was, if I saw the Easter Bunny, I would immediately think, Easter Bunny. So when I see Seder's co-host (Emma), I believe her name is, I immediately think, cuter than Groundhogs having an arm wrestling contest. LOL! Hope that helps. =)

Why because it’s the only other young black British actor you know or you have ready about on buzzfeed as a possibility for this role. Again you are making the point of run-away crowder as everyone else is. Your moving forward after a person claims we are pushing black candidates on the role as a necessity, with only black candidates as the line of discussion. Is it out of spite? I doubt it. I think your just being pulled in to the trend of wanting to replace. Let’s call a spade a spade.

@@Canbilly2 Ohh, that’s ridiculous… even if she became bond, who cares if it’s a good movie and in the trailers, it’s very clear she is there as a representation of times moving on and bond possibly not being able to keep up after all he’s been through. Yeah, bond may not be able to go undercover in Russia if he’s black but that’s not even really a thing he does but white bond wouldn’t be able to go “under cover” in say dictator lead countries in Africa, neither of them could go undercover (in the limited and small minded way Crowder is insisting) in Asia, so why does it matter… It’s 2021, bond’s “cover” is a seemingly wealthy and mysterious British man, his race is increasingly less relevant as time goes on.
