People saying they don't see color is either an excuse for their own behavior or so they can separate themselves when racial inequality or worse happens. I do see color because my friends and family that are of color need to be seen and heard and we have to listen, and stand up for them.

The two are not mutually exclusive. You have to examine the meaning behind what someone is saying instead of just surface semantics. We're all one america and color is not relevant when discussing certain topics like how people should be treated under the law, no matter what color you are you should be treated the same in court. However, it would be wrong to rule out the trends in how people experience life differently connected to race - at least it would be imprecise.

The idea is nice but it's just an idea, it's not the actual lived experience of many people in this country. There might be good intentions behind 'not seeing' color but it's just as often used to dismiss racial experiences by suggesting that if you just 'stop looking for it' then it's not that big of a deal.

For me one of the most frustrating things about the historical representation of MLK in mainstream media is the lack of discussion on his socialist policies. It’s insane how they cover that up behind the Civil Rights Movement and not address how the civil rights movement is, at its core, a socialist movement.
