Lyrics: If you fall asleep with me We could dream and drowse The minutes turn to hours We could climb a tree or two And watch the sun go down Upon our sleepy town After all the time I spent with you Summer went away And we just weren't the same It's just you and me alone Not grown ups but not kids You kissed me on the lips (Spoken word, Marshall Applewhite of Heaven's Gate) Let me say that our mission here, at this time Is about to come to a close in the next few days We came from distant space And even what some might call somewhat of another dimension And we are about to return from whence we came It requires that you - if you move into that evolutionary kingdom That you leave behind everything of human ways, human behaviour Human ignorance, human misinformation If I would title this tape, it would be 'Last chance to evacuate planet earth before it is recycled'
I remember seeing this in 2000 when you played The Scala, I think it was the debut show for a lot of songs from Lightbulb Sun. Blew my mind, crazy to think that was 21 years ago.
This track... this one. So long ago, I was in a really complicated relationship, and I had taken a walkabout because of it. I was literally in the middle of nowhere when this track came up, and it struck me like lightning. I will never forget that moment. To hear it again now, reinterpreted by Steven again...takes me back to then, and makes me acknowledge now. This is awesome. Thanks for this, Steven.
Similar experience with a SW song. On a walk and everything and "To the Bone" hit me like a brick wall. I love that his music can have that effect on people. He's the GOAT
I keep coming back to listen and watch you play this song. I never get tired of it, I love it. I also share it with everyone who I talk to about music. The Mellotron part: Ethereal, spacey, from the late 60's as is the instrument itself. I was kid back then, playing on the floor of my parents living room. But already picking up vibes from the music of the era, vibes from the Vietnam war, vibes from the (unobtainable) Jet Set crowd, miniskirts, Polaroid Swinger cameras, Yellowbird flights on wisperjets to Florida, Pot, lava lamps, psychedelics, bell bottom jeans, black lights, Woodstock.
This is my favorite song. Of anyone. Ever. Since I was twenty. And hearing this for the first time right now, I’m a mess. Shaking. My heart is beating out of my chest. Wait. Wait. Play it again. Oh my god, that part. I never heard it like this. I can’t speak. I need to talk to someone. I need to share this, dammit no one is gonna understand this. Does anyone understand this?! My heart….
I love watching Steven in the studio, just him jamming out great tunes. He makes it look so organic and natural to play such fantastic music. This is better than any music video because it seems like a personal performance for a fly on the wall, just Steven doing what Steven does and we get a view into his world.
The first time I heard this song, 10 years ago, I was on a bus, traveling at night, I was almost falling asleep with this song.... And then, with one foot in the realm of dreams, I hear the speech about the planet earth coming to the end. I was really terrified because I thought that was on m head!!! Then I woke up and I listened the song again with great relief. Then I searched the lyrics and I was terrified again with the history behind the speech.... What a beautiful song. I love it. Thanks for bringing it again Mr. Wilson!
Good rendition . It just needed the awesome guitar solo as icing on the cake. The Nearfest 2001 rendition of this track is still the best, You can dream and drowse while i look down your blouse
...and he even pulls out the Mellotron 🎹Bravo, Mr. Wilson; bar none one of my favorite tunes of yours, especially the Winding Shot first part (I keep hearing Richard’s live part while the acoustic guitar does the pre-verse solo)🙏
I discovered SW about a year ago.Dont ask where ive been but behide the times.Anyway,i indulged in all his works and i have built his whole catalog on vinly and cds.SW if you by any chance read this comment u my friend are a speical breed.Thank you for filling my ears with joy.Peace!
Thanks for sharing your talent with us.
Miss PT so very much but good to see Steven finally alluding to the briliance that has gone before . More please and preferably with the entire crew. Finally, wouldn't an official release of the 2001 Nearfest double be amazing and rediculously overdue.
Thank you so much Steven . I love your style , composure , depth and sheer skill . I'm now 71 and after being born with multiple chronic ill-health issues , I am now getting intense physical and emotional pain . However , I've always loved and appreciated good , honest music , largely around prog , and you sir have and still are bring so much soothing vibes to this old ex(?)hippie . Thank you . I've just subbed . Thank you for letting us into a part of extraordinary life . Stay safe . Love and peace . Pete .✌🤓🤗
Simply... great. I follow S.W since his works with.. Bass comunion., After..: P. T, Blackfield, No Man...etc.. Of course I am a King Crimson/Robert Fripp follower. Greetings from Barcelona
Yes mr Wilson! LOve PT tunes (solo musics too;) appreciate U embracing the acid electro vibez here! also dig the mic'd up L/R acoustic gtrs. Keep 'em coming! Aloha.
Ayyyy qué maravilla Steve!! Qué suerte saber tocar tantos instrumentos!! Me alucina!! Estamos contigo y siempre pendientes de tus trabajos!! LOVE!! 😍😍😍😍😍💜💜💜💜
Very good. Two parts: One intimate, personal, confessional and the other historical, global, dramatic, with that deep voice of Marshall Herff Applewhite, founder of the Heaven's Gate sect, who led the famous collective suicide in 1997. I liked it a lot.
Great tune! Love watching the recording process, even if it's mimed. One thing I did notice, and Stevens love of the band Madness comes out. The verse melody is Our House by Madness
Simply in my book the best Steven Wilson song in my top 5, it encompass everything he does so well. Modern, classic, electro and the most important, still give you chills when listening to it. and go back to the original for the banjo intro
I love this song so much, what a lovely surprise this video was. That guitar intro is one of the first things I always play when I pick up a guitar. When my twin boys were growing in their mother I used to play and sing it to them every evening.
I think this is the song I have played the most on an acoustic guitar, ever. I play my own version of it so often, that sometimes I forget I didn't write it... bugger!
I’ve only recently discovered you and Porcupine Tree, and it just blows me away. Loving the Future Bites sessions and hope to use the same format when I eventually release my first album. Your music has inspired me greatly.
