You are right. There is nobody like Stevie Ray with that guitar. I have been watching guitar players for decades. He is the best that ever was. Thanks for a great reaction!

Do you look at your feet when you're walking? That guitar was just a part of him. He didn't have to think about what his hands and fingers were doing at all. Nothing was slowing down his feelings through those amps. It's what allowed him to be one of the greatest of all time.

That look at 7:15 was someone that had gone on a trip with his guitar, and just came back to the rest of us. The little sheepish grin that said, “Oh, hey guys, didn’t know you were there.”

I saw Stevie in Seattle 1985, even got to shake the mans hand he was a super humble guy and he loved his fans. With that said BB King said Stevie was the greatest guitarist, and the first time Eric Clapton herd Stevie on the radio he stopped his car because he could not believe what he was hearing, in an interview Eric said he wanted to contact Stevie before the end of that day.

Stevie Ray wasn’t surprised he pulled it off because he was totally in control of that guitar. He was in his own world and was surprised when he reentered our world and saw Tommy Shannon and he smiled

Yes, there is nobody like Stevie Ray. I fell in love with this beautiful piece the first time I heard Hendrix do it (with his lyrics). What an amazing rendition and tribute from one great artist to another. SRV poured his heart and soul into his guitars and it spilled right back out for us. I need my SRV fix every day. Thank you Stevie for the music and all the love you passed our way. 💔

Stevie was known for the strings on his guitar! I believe they were 13's! They are the thickest strings you can buy an most can't bend them but Stevie loved them!!!

Everyone is into "shredders" now. The blues (especially Texas blues) is that style that you can learn well in a cpl years n never really master in a lifetime. Some took it past that even. SRV was like an open channel...I never saw him box himself in, where he had to stop n think about his next run. It was almost like a different force was pushing the music and just using Stevie to get it out. I can't even put it in words really. To me...best to ever do it. Skill plus soul plus NEVER hardly missing a note. CLEAN

Nope - nobody else is like Stevie, you are right bro - he is the wizard. Talkin bout his fingers, part of how he got his monster tone, part of his signature sound, he used .13 gage strings, the heaviest possible - people go thicker but it is almost just experimentation at that point, some Punk players going for simpler playing with massive sound for example (most players - average and the greats like Jimi - and this is no diss on him just diff styles and just as amazing how epic his tone is regardless- use.09, some .10, those with balls use .11 but SRV uses 13's. That number refers to the thickness of the high E in a set of strings and of course all 6 in a set follow suit. So it would be like having the 2nd string in a normal set- high to low - as your first string - high E - yet still bend them and massacre the guitar like he does - his hands are so strong. Part freak genetics/part playing all day every day from age 8. Anyway figured I'd drop a little background for ya. Many thanks for the genuine reaction man.

You are the first reactor I’ve seen catch when Stevie is mimicking the sound he wants to get out of the guitar with his mouth! Truly shows his skill because you can see he is expressing his music not only through his guitar, but his body as well. Hendrix used to do this as well! Only Hendrix would do it with his body first and then the guitar would follow lol ! Other worldly talent both of them
@alesiaking5578
@alesiaking5578 Год назад
Stevie would listen to tunes he liked and would make the sounds with his mouth and memorize them that way to play it on the guitar. This is how he taught himself to play, and would sleep with his guitar every night. His dad was an abusive alcoholic so this was his refuge. Thank God he overcame his addictions and was sober the last 4 years of his life. RIP❤️‍🩹SRV🎸

@harrietmiller3982

So Stevie never learned to read music and taught himself by listening to records and basically playing every waking moment. He had enormous hands and developed such forearm strength that he was just a masterful monster slaying the guitar. He has been quoted as saying he doesn't "think" about what he is playing he just listens to where the music "wants" to go and then just lets that happen. He himself surrenders to it and lets himself be swept away in musical bliss. In turn he sweeps us all away with him. That look you referenced was not about surprise he "pulled it off" because there is never any doubt about that. But he has said he sometimes gets surprised at what comes out of him. His band mates say they are always amazed at him playing something different each time he plays the same song. It is all about what the musical energy is in the moment. You have lots of surprises yet to discover down this rabbit hole. Enjoy🎸🎶‼️

Stevie mentioned in an interview that part of his learning process for a song was to be able to reproduce sounds with his mouth. If he could do that, the rest came along. So, yes, he did mouth sounds.

The whole band was tight...Stevie was totally loyal so when David Bowie used him to play guitar on his album Lets Dance....with a promise Stevies band could join the tour & either open/warm up or whatever he offered Stevie was pleased...did the solos etc for Lets Dance then at the last minute Bowie told him to drop the band & tour alone with him Stevie said No Way! Speaks volumes about the greatness of Stevie over Bowie who used & dropped anyone he wanted... Shame Stevie was taken so early...his greatness just watching the videos we have is a taster...even his sound check is great...RIP SRV...Another Elvis in the making had fate turned a different corner 😕❣🤘🏻🇬🇧

That's correct....a lot of people don't realize those facts about the Stevie/Bowie relationship. Stevie also always demanded that the members of Double Trouble got the same cut for performances that he did....that's really unheard of. A great artist and a great human being as well!

How he plays without looking? Years in the gym my man, years in the gym. While Jimmy was a genius, Stevie was a master. He had freakishly strong hands. He also would put superglue on his fingertips to keep them from bleeding. The last part was an homage to Jimmy. If you love that, check out an all Native American blues group called "Indigenous". The lead singer is incredible at guitar as well as the backup guitarist. They cover Stevies song "Red house" live, it's fantastic!
