Stevie Ray Vaughan - Texas Flood (from Live at the El Mocambo) This is a classic 1983 performance by the late legend, my first time seeing this gem and here is my reaction and review.

Brother, I don't leave comments often but you did an outstanding job in your reaction! It was honest, funny, astute, in-depth and you are very affable. I will be watching more of your videos. God bless. SRV a beautiful soul and is by far my favorite guitarist. I saw him live 6 months before he died in Oklahoma. I still get emotional and miss him. He was clean and sober and playing better than ever. It does my soul good to see Stevie being introduced to new hearts. Try Life by the drop. ☮️ my friend

I agree...I'm 67 and I've seen them all...beginning with Jimi Hendrix when I was 12 years old. When I saw SRV in Daytona Beach in 1985?, I was blown away. He was larger than life and he was LOUD...but it all 'made sense'. I've played guitar all my life and I'm a year older then SRV...but after seeing him I kinda gave it all up...he was THE master.

@@paulpresto673 you have a valid point, but I think that he reached his pinnacle more due to Albert King. All are great and I don't think there is a "best", I think they were all the best at what they did. I wouldn't give up one for the other.
@paulpresto673
@paulpresto673 4 года назад
@@MrDevildog0321 It's true that Albert King was a BIG influence on SRV, but he did play a lot of Hendrix and "covered" his music better than anyone. But music, like science, 'develops' from the accomplishments of others. Like SRV once said when asked if he thought he was the best ever..."I learned from the greats and just try to be myself."
@sergeantpete6295
@sergeantpete6295 4 года назад
I agree with most here. There is no "greatest artist" ever. Each artist puts his soul on canvas. Each musician flows his soul through his instrument. Jimi is and was great. I love every song he created. But SRV had a soul that was without equal. Before he got sober... after... it doesn't matter, his music was magical.

I'll respectfully disagree. If you've never heard 'Peace in the Valley' or any recordings of his final two concerts at Alpine Valley before his crash...he reached the heavens a few hours before he actually did. Even Clapton said after his set "How the hell am I supposed to follow THAT?" Check out Sweet Home Chicago, the last song he played with everyone. He so outclassed everyone and less than two hours later...he was gone

I had the great privilege of meeting and speaking with SRV on several occasions, seeing him in concert numerous times, and when he played, it was a vibe that struck you, the energy and passion that he brought to the stage and filtered through his guitar that hit you, like a 2X4 right between your eyes. His music, especially live, changed your life. That is the greatest compliment that I can give. I recall attending the Chicago Blues Fest in 1984 or 85, while completing my doctorate degree, and it was a comfortable leisurely afternoon and evening listening to many artists and excellent performances with a good crowd, but because of the large capacity of the fairgrounds there was plenty of room to stretch-out on a towel on the great lawn, that is until Stevie showed up with his band Double Trouble around 1:00 AM and started playing, then seemingly within 15 minutes, several hundred thousand additional fans descended on the grounds and we we all packed-in like sardines, standing shoulder to shoulder witnessing greatness, a force of nature and enjoying every second of it. RIP brother, hope you are tearing it up when and if I get there.

I saw him in concert and he broke strings THREE TIMES! And they are 13 gauge strings, the heaviest made! He never missed a beat!

People always treat genres as special. Honestly though, if you can't look at another form of music and appreciate it I feel bad for you. I do not love old classic orchestra music personally. Yet I know when I listen to the good stuff that it is amazing. Do not care for opera, but those singers are some of the most powerful, beautiful voices alive. So while I may not love every genre I try to appreciate the people who are actually the most gifted of artists.

SRV one of the greatest guitar God of all time yes a true legend (: This performance too me besides him putting his soul and his own unique greatness too it with his Beyond Phemonal guitar Epicness (: But too me he s paying tribute too all the great blues guitarist ever (: Among them his Greatest Teacher Jimmy Hendrixs (: The First True God Guitarist Ever in this planet and the universe (: May even say Titan Hendrixs because the word God in reference too his guitar mastery was too small of a word for him (: One guy said every guitar player in the world were like guitar techs in comparison too Hendrix which means that even if you were a wizard on the guitar you stillcouldnt match his skill and emortal talent on the guitar (: Now SRV playing behind his back which was first done by Hendrix who played that way and with his teeth (: And was in another universe with it (: But what I see here with SRV is his great appreciation for all the blues guitarist in the world who he learned a lot from and was greatly inspired by them and his tribute too the greatest guitarist greatest influence and greatest mentor ever too SRV JH (: Too me Jimmy and all the blues greats would be extremely super proud and honored by this Epic Super Legendary Beyond Phemonal Master Epic God of the guitar Stevie Ray Vaughn SRV (: Truly one of the absolute greatest too ever play the instrument period (: Truly missed RIP. SRV (:

He was a genius on the guitar yet he was so humble. Watch the video where he jams with the great Albert King. At one point Mr. King compliments Stevie and Stevie's comment was "I try"

The first time I ever saw the video of him performing Lenny at the El Macombo, and realized he wrote it for his wife Lenora, for buying him a guitar, I cried. I am a grown ass man, and I cried because I knew I could never, ever, put that much emotion and love into anything I could ever accomplish. A more wonderful man, there never lived.
