Stick Welding, How To Stick Weld Structural Flat Test Position!
Learn how to Stick Weld in a flat position using the stringer beads welding technique! E 7018, 1/8 welding rod. This video might give you some insights on how to pass the weld test.
When welding using the flat position or also known as the 1GF procedure, coupons have a backing strip attached. 45 minutes is allowed per coupon. NO GRINDERS, SAW BLADES, FILES, OR METHODS THAT REMOVE DEPOSITED METAL OR ALTER WELD BEAD PROFILE ARE PERMITTED.
#howtostickweld #stickwelding #extremetig
To meet CWB standards, you can’t use a grinder during prep or grind a weld down. You can only use it for cleaning. Per CWB standards, all prep work and cleanup have to be done with a pearl pad or brush.
Second, CWB requires that you stop and restart in the middle of the welds you submit for testing. This means welders who want to get CWB certified have to have to master terminating welds and know how to tie in when they pick the weld back up. Otherwise, the finished weld will not maintain its integrity during testing.
None of these videos are recorded in a fancy shop surrounded by sponsorship banners!
All of my videos are recorded at working sites in various locations and different welding positions.
90% of my welding projects in videos are x-rayed, and if you like to see hands-on projects, welcome!

I weld 140 until the cap. Then drop it down to 130. Weld your 90° first. Ties ins i start at the top of the crater and move forward because i dont want to weld over slag. For the cap i weld the 2 seams first then the middle to tie both stringers in. Honestly its an easy test. Make sure beyond anything else you clean your plate properally after every pass. Slag inclusions will fail you and its easy to avoid. I weld at a 37° angle to fit the next bead in a bit better. Ive had multiple cwbs and tssas under my belt and tssa for tig plus metal core certs. We all help eachother we can get though these tests together! Everyone welds differently, just gotta find whats best for you!

First time seeing it run that hot plus the four bead cap. I run 130 til the cap and have 3 beads.

I agree this weld test is the easy one if you're having trouble with it your fooling around. So, secret keep it simple, just keep your rod angle correct and your hand steady. That's it

Great upload man! 😎Is this test only for Canada? I would like to go the US in the future so wondered if the test is same there or different?
@X3MTIG
@X3MTIG 2 года назад
Thanks bud. Yes, this test is only in Canada. US codes are different, in preparation restrictions and testing.

If an experienced welder moves to Canada from another country what steps should he take to be able to work on really highly paid projects? Should he take some specific tests and where?

Thanks for your comment DM. I can’t answer to your question as I’m not familiar with the immigration laws and procedures for foreigner skilled workers.

If you want to get the bigger money you need to pass the red seal test, this will allow you to work all over Canada, but getting all your tickets for welding under our standards and going for the red seal test.

I only have mig with a flux core setup. How would i go about a 90 degree weld like this? The smallest recommended gauge for 110 volt is 18 gauge. How thick should my bead be for a strong weld? Im on 20 wire speed and 5v it only goes 1v to 7v and 19 to 90 for wire spees. I dont want to be able to use a hammer to break the weld obviously its not stromg enough if it cant take a few blows

Try to get better machine, or it might work better with thinner materials. It all depends what you intend to use it for.

Interesting that you weld the sides first. I would think you could trap slag or air pockets in the middle pass. And you weld an inch or more before your even in the groove. Which can make you run out of rod sooner than intended.

Bro.. obviously he knows what he is doing, as you can see, he passes all of his bending and x ray tests! I mean, as he said, he has been welding for over 20 years. Do you really think he needs advice? 😏🫣Also, he came from Europe, worked in Germany for years, learned his skill there, and they might do it differently there! 😉
@Jsef0801
@Jsef0801 Год назад
@@dariom5050 I'm not giving advice, but this video shows improper stacking. You should put a bead in the middle, then you can safely weld the other beads without trapping slag. And you believe anything someone says lol.

Hey bud thanks for your comment. One thing is that what you think that could or might happen, and the other thing is that I showed you what exactly happened as per CWB GF1 Welding Procedure. So let me repeat myself again, that is exact welding procedure specifications!!

@@X3MTIG all that you proved was you cap passed the bend test that was over an 8th of an inch. Things are more strict in America.
@Jsef0801
@Jsef0801 Год назад
@Somewhere In Japan this was 3 months ago, lol. America has a 1/8 tolerance for weld height, as well as how wide the weld sticks out on the metal. That was my point. But as for the bend test, you can have a good end and a bad end lol. Those tests are a joke anyway tbh.

At 2:43 is there a tiny gap in between the two root passes? Did you mean to do that
@X3MTIG
@X3MTIG Год назад
Yes, that’s exactly part of the procedure.

@mreojballer3777 Год назад
@@X3MTIG what does the tiny gap benefit 🤔?
@mattyd337
@mattyd337 26 дней назад
@@mreojballer3777 Nothing really. When you weld both sides your weld can only be so big with stringer beads then it leaves that gap in the middle.
