My son and I used this as the entrance music for my husband's funeral on Friday 14/01/2022; it's been the favourite film of mine, my husbands and my sons for many many years, excellent film, excellent cast, excellent soundtrack. We miss you Dean x x x
Remember watching this movie at around 13, Im a big movie nerd but this alwayz has a place in my my movies hart. This song is 1 that will always be with me ( if you can understand that ) I struggled with school and its followed me into adulthood, listening to this track almost 25 years later still makes me hope. Deeply sorry for your loss, my on and off girlfriend pasted... 3 years ago and I find Im still trying to find some sort of life after. Hope you have.
This movie is just so underrated....an amazing sound track. The CD version of The Flame Still Burns is one of the greatest songs ever recorded. I get chills everytime I play it. Bill Nighy is GOLD !!!
The "Go on" from Les to Ray is so heartwarming a (spoilers) willingness to let this song he's been so protective of be sung after 2 decades. But then Ray allowing Les to sing it well it's been 25 years and it still brings tears to my eyes
I 1st saw this film as a teenager, Brian walking on to play his guitar solo made me tear up. I've just watched this now aged 38, Brian walking on to play his guitar solo still makes me tear up!!!
Theres one big problem with this film.... it ends. i wish it was longer. easily a top five film for me, ive been watching it again, its one of those that once i start watching it i'll watch it every night for at least a week.
One of the best films ever made, I have the DVD but noticed it was on Prime so had a reason to watch it just because it was there. I must have watched it a couple of dozen times and still laugh out loud. Excellent cast brilliant music. I’m off to watch it right now 😂
Watched this movie when it first came out. Watched it several times since. My dad and brother died in 2011 within the space of two weeks to cancer. Both were buried together. When I would go to their gravestone I would talk to them and leave it with “the flame still burns” as I walked away. Gets to me every time. My mum died in February of this year, was cremated and ashes buried just above them in the same place. The flame still burns mum. Love you and miss you ❤
As a musician, one of the many who gave his life to the craft and never made it, this movie filled me with the sadness of what might have been. The musical scenes and scenarios are very real. Especially the gig in Holland where the band tanked. They had the wrong audience, a bunch of kids, and were almost laughed off the stage. Personally, I have had my band thrown off the stage before we even got through the first song. Not because we were bad but because the bass player was too stoned to play. I have been booed off the stage. I have had gigs where they didn't pay me. I have had expensive gear stolen. Had someone turn off the power to the stage mid set. Ah, the joys of Rock n' Roll . . . still I chased it. Now I am 57 and only gig occasionally. I just watched this movie for the 2nd time and it made me a little melancholy, but at the same time I had to smile. This is one great movie.
The older you grow the more you get to understand the depth in the words you first heard with young ears. The blackest of comedy has tragedy at its heart & you feel a desperate need to see everybody reach their goal. Laughing at the scenes despite the twists of fate that conspire to frustrate the main characters . Theres a little of all our lives played out in this film which is why it resonates to much .That combined with some fine cameos and decent soundtrack . Last scene is very touching and poignant
100% agree my uncle introduced this film to me when I was just coming into my teens. I thought it was funny and liked the music. I watched it again the other day, pushing 30 now, this film has a lot more depth and significance to it than I could understand first time round. And this scene perfectly encapsulates exactly what you said
This was played at my dads funeral March 2013. I first discoved this whilst I was in a band between the ages of 13-15. I showed it to my Dad and ever since watching it on VHS, we loved it an never tired from watching it together, laughing all the way through an welling up at the end. What a great film, the best era of music for sure. Something that'll stay with me for the rest of my days. Love you Dad R.I.P.
The true portrait of every band who ever loved playing music together despite all the conflicts it brings. I'm a rock singer too, and just like in this film our bassist hates my guts. Hello Rik, good luck to you.
I live a life that's surreal Where all that I feel I am learning Oh life, has been turned on the lathe Reshaped with a flame that's still burning And in time, it's all a sweet mystery When you shake the trees of temptation Yeah and I, I know the fear and the cost Of a paradise lost in frustration And the flame still burns It's there in my soul for that unfinished goal And the flame still burns From a glimmer back then It lights up again in my life In my life, yeah I, I want my thoughts to be heard The unspoken words of my wisdom Today, as the light starts to flow Tomorrow who knows who will listen But my life has no language in love No word from above is appearing Oh the time, in time there's a fire that's stoked With a reason of hope and believing And the flame still burns It's there in my soul for that unfinished goal And the flame still burns From a glimmer back then It lights up again in my life In my life, yeah Keep rolling keep that flame still burning Keep on rolling while the world keeps turning Yeah, keep a'rolling Yeah, keep a'rolling, yeah And the flame still burns It's there in my soul for that unfinished goal And the flame still burns From a glimmer back then It lights up again in my life In my life, yeah
I love this film. First watched it years ago with my dad when i was still a kid and it's one of my all time favourites. The words in this song meant a lot then but even more so now. This song was played at my dad's funeral when he passed, it moved me years ago and now it has so much more meaning ❤
This movie is incredible. I watched it when It first came out and watched it countless times since. When I talk to my dad, mum and brother at their gravestone. I always say to them “the flame still burns” ❤
hJYIRI GKK Well, they’re different; spinal tap was a slapstick comedy and this is more light comedy-drama. But in terms of rock mockumentaries I think this has more heart and soul more character depth better better characters spinal tap is just silly & funny but more like an hour and a half SNL sketch. I guess they’re different it’s like comparing apples and oranges. For laughs maybe spinal tap but for heart soul and story - still crazy.
Growing up, this song alone helped my panic attacks and helped me with my depressive episodes. This movie shows you the power of love and coming together no matter what. The music is something rare to find now.
Jimmy Nail, one of the most underrated voices in the music industry. Any film that has Jimmy, Tim Spall, Bill Nighy & Billy Connolly in has to be great, and it is.
Watched the film again last night. Watched this clip again and tears to my eyes again! Everyone is great in this, but soft spots for Bruce Robinson and Jimmy Nail. Great stuff all round.
Just finished reading Jimmy's book a Northern soul, and he says this is a great little film........he isn't wrong, such a shame it didn't get the reception it deserved. One of my all time favourites. Jimmy's vocals on this are out of this world 🌎.
I grew up in this age group and thus movie deeply touched me because this was my life in music. It seemed to flood all of my memories. It's too bad we all must grow old one day and our dreams playing music have to fade. The girl in this movie is beautiful and she reminds of being young with my wife and in love. This movie and this particular song bring back all of the memories of having Hopes and Dreams and Love in your life. This kind of music is what I remember. These guys have brought all of this back to life. Great movie. Wish it could go on forever.
Not seen this film in years, this evening I'm sat at home watching californication and in one random scene Tim Minchin is sitting there with a guitar playing this song, such a cool little suprise.
sometimes music is more than just singing and instruments.. its a feeling... a deep understanding and nothing can take that from you. Always Rock brother!
Saw this for the first time the other day ... Rock and roll bonds never die it's a shame the bands that write them do .. Legendary cast and film ... British classic shame it's overlooked..
This was a great film and not very well known, written by Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais. I think Chris Difford from Squeeze helped to co write this song. The guy who comes on at the end to play lead guitar is Bruce Robinson who wrote and directed "Withnail and I" a cult film of tremendous quality.
Found this movie while browsing the miscellaneous section at Blockbuster’s 20+yrs ago. Watched it 2-3 times before taking it back and found it again yrs later at a used dvd store and bought it. Such a great and underrated film with great music
For all of the people that are posting such positive and heartfelt comments.. you are all absolutely and without doubt correct! This is definitely a movie meant to be seen more than once and the soundtrack is definitely.. definitely in capital letters definitely definitely definitely worth listening to often!
Ive been in bands all m life, and at 60 years o& age my original is reforming after 30 years, so this film i can relate to so well, we might even play some of the film tracks
I worked with many bands and some of the best, never made it. Some split, like Strange Fruit. The world will never see their genius. FOr me this song represents those bands and is why I've seen this film over 50 times! *PARP* Dutch cutty!
Esta película está tan bien hecha que cuando la vi por primera vez, hace muchos años, cuando era adolescente, de verdad creí que los Strange Fruit existían y que esta era una película de su carrera y me puse a buscar discos de ellos, infructuosamente XD
I believe all the songs that they perfor in the film were written espeially for the film so that Strange Fruit would have a real history!! The performers of the songs were the principal acors so far a lyrics were concerned. As a fan of the 60's I was never quite so keen on the Glam Rock but if Strange Fruit had been around then I would have worship them!!!!
Id just like to update my comment from 3 years ago, im now 42, watched this video for the 1st time in ages, im crying again, no idea why, maybe its just the sheer brilliance of the song i dont know, Brian walking onto the stage with his guitar ruins me
Totally love this film!! Was never a music fan but the performances and singing of the principals is awesome!!! The songs also way up with the best too.
