Everyone's posting their short stories so whatever here I go: I'm tired. Exhausted. Bored. Lonely. A finger traces the rim of the beer in front of me, slowly, almost afraid to complete the circle in fear that it would have nothing left to do after. The sound of a beer being filled up. The sound of a text message sending, and then one being received right after. The sound of hushed conversations and drunken laughter. Everyone is relaxed and enjoying this temporary moment of escape from the rest of the world. Men boldly approach women, encouraged by the alcohol pulsing through their blood. I sit, tucked away in the corner, and observing the scene in front of me as a spectator instead of a participant. Was this it? Is this all life really held? An exasperated sigh leaves my lips and my entire frame deflates. A hand raises my beer up to my lips and I take a small sip. The taste is repulsing, but still, for whatever reason, I find myself drinking more. Another sigh. Another sip. I move to rise from my seat, done with people-watching for the night and simply wanting to go home. But right as I'm about to do so, a spotlight slowly switches on, growing brighter until there is a clear view of a single mic standing alone, waiting to be used. Its pleas are answered quickly. A man ambles into the light, a casual button-up tucked into jeans and a hand shoved into a single pocket. Hair curtains to the side from a middle part and silver hoop earrings shine in the luminescence. Two hands grab onto the mic, one covered in small tattoos lining his fingers and knuckles, and I see others peeking out from underneath the sleeve of his shirt. His head tilts back as he takes a short sip of water and then smiles quietly to himself, full of hidden secrets and thoughts. Some conversations have died down, but most people ignore him, continuing on with the topic they were discussing with friends. Being left alone to converse with no one, I sink back into my seat and lean against the bar counter, legs crossed. Expectation rises with each second as the attractive young man prepares to perform. And then he sings. Involuntarily, a gasp escapes my lips in pleasant surprise as the clarity of the singing reaches my ears in delicate waves. Crystal-clear water flows over rocks, birds soar through fluffy white clouds, and sunlight reflects on the surface of water, sparkling and smiling and dancing hello in greeting. I'm left staring at the man in complete awe, watching as his eyes close and each note vibrates his vocal chords, stringing together to create a song of longing, wishing, pleading. I'm left wanting to run up to the spotlight and hug him so he no longer has to ask. By now, the only conversations to remain are quiet whispers to friends, complimenting the gorgeous voice. Phones are raised to capture the moment while others wave, flashlights on and adding to the romantic atmosphere. Everyone is left in a trance, having no option but to listen and sway, the lyrics and melody taking everyone to different places and bringing up different memories. Soon, too soon, too freaking soon, the final note of the song rings out, and there's a moment of silence. A moment to register, a moment to remember, until simultaneous applause greets the ending. Another sigh escapes my lips. I was unlikely to see him again, but the attractive singer had made me feel a little less lonely for just a moment more. Just a moment longer. Somehow, I felt motivated to continue forward with effort and purpose. "Thank you! Thank you guys," the man says with a smile, waving and bowing to the enthusiastic audience. He steps off the stage and starts walking. It takes a moment for me to realize that he's walking towards me, and by the time this fact registers, he's stopped in front of me. This song makes me feel like I have been listening to it since forever but when it ends it feels like it was just for a few seconds and feels so short. I always get lost in this song. Like when it’s playing and I close my eyes my surroundings kind of like disappear it’s just him and his voice and his eyes looking into mine. This song can’t be expressed in words.

이거 약간 그거잖,, 원래 전정국은 엄청 유명한 대기업 회사 사장 아들인데 회사쪽으로 일하기 싫어서 하고 싶은대로 하고 사고싶은대로 사는 그런 마이웨이 인생 사는거.. 그 반대로 전정국 형인 전이안은 아버지 말씀 엄청 따라서 아버지 회사 물려 받을 준비중인거지 그래서 아버지가 전정국만 외국에서 경영쪽 일 배우고 오라 해서 외국 보내 줬는데 그닥 인기 있지도 않은 아는 사람들만 오는 그런 바에서 노래부르면서 즐기는거 근데 때마침 유학 온 여주가 밤 늦게까지 놀다가 집 가려고 나왔는데 비가 엄청 오는거.. 그래서 근처에 아직 문 닫지 않은 바에 들어가서 대충 자리잡고 도수 쎈 술 한병 시키고 술잔에 쪼르르 따라 마시려 하는데 전정국이 노래 시작하겠지.. 사람도 많지 않고 조용한 스타일의 바길래 그냥 술만 마시러 가끔 와야겠다 생각했는데 갑자기 노래 시작하고 게다가 한국어로 부르길래 궁금한 나머지 무대 쪽 쳐다봤는데 자신의 남친인 전이안이랑 너무 똑같이 생긴거,, 놀라기도 엄청 놀라서 입 틀어막고 자리에서 벌떡 일어났는데 전정국이 여주 쪽 쳐다보다가 눈 마주친거.. 그래서 여주가 창피해서 자리에 다시 살포시 앉는데 노래 끝 날때까지 전정국이랑 자꾸 눈 마주치는 그런 거 보고 싶다. 그래서 뭐 어쩌겠어 전이안이 회사일 때문에 지치고 예민해서 권태기인 것도 모자라 만날때 마다 다른 여자향수 냄새나서 미치겠는 여주가 자신의 남친인 전이안과 다른 매력을 풍기는 전정국 보고 끌리기도 하겠지. 그러다 문득 정신 차리고 보니 노래 끝나있고 전정국은 어디 갔는지 모름.. 여주는 술도 다 마셨겠다 이제 집 가자 하고 나왔는데 아까보단 덜 내리지만 아직도 비가 추적추적 내리고 있는거임 생각해 보니 아까 바에 들어올때도 우산이 없어서 비 맞고 들어왔는데 지금 와서 어떻게 할 방법이 없음 어쩔수 없이 뛰어가야 겠다 생각한 여주가 심호흡 한번 하고 한발 내디뎠는데 검고, 또 약간의 빛이 나는 신발이 앞을 가로막는 동시에 비를 안맞게 되는거 살짝 놀란 여주가 앞을 보는데 딱 전정국 인거지.. 전정국과 어울리는 쿨한, 한편으론 따뜻한 그런 향수 향이 나는 라이더 자켓을 입고 한손에는 우산 들고 있겠지..

약간 속상한 일이든 짜증나는 일이든 있어서 기분이 별로인 상태로 간 바에서 담배 하나 물고는 술 대강 도수가 꽤 높은거 시키고는 한숨만 내쉬고 있는데 갑자기 바 안에서 노래가 나오고 가사가 완전 내 얘기 그래서 그 노래소리를 찾아 고개를 돌렸는데 노래를 부르고 있는 남자랑 눈이 딱 마주침 그리고 나만 바라보며 노래를 부르는 꼭 나를 위로해주는 것 같은 상상을 했습니다. 짜릿했어요.
