Today I will teach you how to work with Gerlinde Lenz's Double Seam Peyote With a Twist - Not Crochet. This wonderful stitch produces the look of Bead Crochet, but it is done using Peyote stitch instead of crochet. The double seam being taught in this video allows us to create ropes with an even number of beads.

I just found you, and I'm pretty new at beading & never even tried regular peyote. But this was interesting. I appreciate that you're calm, not overly talkative and no unnecessary music. By the way, at the end (bloopers), that was so cute! New subscriber.

I knew if I was patient and waited for you to do a video on double seam peyote I would be able to understand it. All those "simple explanations" on the facebook page were making me cross-eyed. Many, many thanks for this video and for the one introducing us to single seam peyote. Love your little helper!

@ACLPatternsandMore
@ACLPatternsandMore 6 лет назад
Th double seam version of Peyote With a Twist allows us to create a rope with an even amount of beads in the circumference. The single seam version is used when working with an odd number of beads in the circumference. I hope this answers your question. :-)

@ACLPatternsandMore

Sure, you can change the beads if you'd like. The only thing you should keep in mind is that the diameter of the rope will be affected by the change in size. Larger beads will produce larger diameters and vice versa. :-)

One can create beautiful necklaces and bracelets using this technique. If you look at my facebook page facebook.com/thebeadboy1 (as well as other beadweaving designers) you will see all of the projects we have completed using this technique. Like with any beadweaving technique, the possibilities are endless, of course, you have to use your imagination once you have learned the basic technique. :-)
@evelynb8834
@evelynb8834 6 лет назад
Are you releasing the video on odd count soon?
@ACLPatternsandMore
@ACLPatternsandMore 6 лет назад
The odd count thing was a mistake I made. In reality, Peyote With a Twist was designed so that we never have to work with odd count Peyote and therefore, we don't have to worry about that funky turn odd-count peyote uses. When we work with a rope with an odd number of beads as its circumference we use the single seam method. We begin working with your circumference, let's say 9 beads, and you add one more bead for a total of 10 beads (like in my video). When you join and create the tube two of those columns become one leaving you with a circumference of 9 beads. When the circumference of the rope we are creating is an even number of beads then we begin with the circumference (14 beads in the video) and we add two more beads (for a total of 16 beads). When we join we lose two of those beads leaving us with a circumference of 14 beads. So you see, there is no need for an odd count version. Sorry, for the confusion. :-)

What is the size of the beeds n needle.....? Can u plz tell..?
@ACLPatternsandMore
@ACLPatternsandMore 6 лет назад
The beads I used in this video where size 8/0 and the needle is a size 10 sharp (long) Tulip. I only used these beads because they show better in the video, but I would normally use smaller beads for a Peyote with a Twist project. Especially if the project is a bracelet. Smaller beads tend to produce ropes that have more flexibility and larger beads produce ropes that are stiffer. I hope this information helps you.

@MichellesHandmadeCreations 6 лет назад
Um, don't you actually have 18 beads per row? EI. 2+14+2? Looks like the accent rows match up more seamlessly with 2 accent beads on each side. Very nice! TFS! Have you demo'd odd-count Peyote With a Twist yet? Yes? Link please. :)
@ACLPatternsandMore
@ACLPatternsandMore 6 лет назад
Technically yes, but I did explain that when working with the double seam technique you work with the circumference plus two beads. In this case, the circumference is 14 beads plus the two that we need to add bringing it to a total of eighteen beads, but with peyote, we pick up the first two rows when we begin our project so we actually have nine beads in each row, not eighteen or sixteen. :-) Once we join the two sets of two turquoise beads (four columns) come together to become one set of two beads (two columns) meaning we lose two beads so after the join we are working with the circumference only (16 beads).
@MichellesHandmadeCreations
@MichellesHandmadeCreations 6 лет назад
Oh, OK. I think I get it now. I just re-watched the most important segments to me. So glad I did! I think I get why I couldn't bring my corners together. I loaded 16 beads at first, 2 accents on each end, and then wove 17 rows. I think I should have woven only 15 rows, right?
@ACLPatternsandMore
@ACLPatternsandMore 6 лет назад
When working with the double seam you want to complete the number of rows that matches your circumference plus one row. In this video, for example, my circumference is 16 beads so I have to complete 16 rows plu one more row, 17 in total in order to join. Don't forget that on your last row you don't add the last bead.

I do not understand the difference between your single seam and your double seam tutorial. You used an even number of beads in both tutorials, here 16 and in the other one 10 beads. This is very confusing. Can you please explain?
@ACLPatternsandMore
@ACLPatternsandMore 6 лет назад
Yes, you are correct I began both the single and double seam with an even number of beads, but if you notice the true number of beads you are working with changes once you have joined the flat peyote into a tube. Take the single seam, for instance, I began working with ten beads (even number), but once join two of those columns join and become one. Thus, we are left working with nine beads (odd number) for the remainder of the project. The double seam sample, I began working with 16 beads (even number) but the join in this sample uses four columns (two at each end of the flat peyote) that become two columns which left me working with a circumference of fourteen beads (even number) for the rest of the project. To sum up, single seam Peyote With a Twist is used when working with a circumference that is an odd number of beads. The double seam technique is used with the circumference of the rope you are working with is an even number of beads. Hope this clarifies the difference between the two techniques for you. :-)
