This is nearly exactly what I do. I have a well and it comes out at 56°. I use fresh water every time. I am looking forward to some colder temps this winter but am freezing blocks in the mean time. You might care to talk about how to make a siphon with a garden hose to drain the tank without drilling any holes. I just use my thumb to momentarily stop the water, this is something I haven't seen on RU-vid.

👍 Love it! Great Idea using a hose as a siphon. My tank has a train plug making it easy to drain.

Do these stock tanks have a drain plug? I'm thinking of getting one but i don't want to have to change out the water constantly. How difficult is it to install a chiller and also to keep the water clean for repeat use?

They do have a drain plug. I don’t have a chiller connected to mine and only use it in the colder times of the year. during the warmer seasons, I use my DIY chest freezer cold plunge.

It depends on the temperature of the water that you’re starting with. Typically it ranges between 45°F and 55°F.

Would using a metal stock tank be an issue in a climate where it gets below freezing regularly in the winter? I love this idea but my husband is worried about skin sticking to it

I have never had any issues with my skin sticking to the metal. If it regularly gets below freezing where you are, you can add Epsom salt to the water to lower the freezing temperature.
