It’s never any disrespect to Gretz, but whenever we marvel at his stats, I feel we have to remember how the game was played then vs now. In my opinion what we are seeing the likes of McDavid and Ovi do is just as impressive due to how the league structure, the overall talent in the game, how the game is played

Also love the respect you guys had for the pens, malkin doesn’t get enough credit for that 09 run appreciate you mentioning the 36 points Jesse but also Steve you’re exactly right with Sid and Geno and Sid and kessel, you need more than 1 or 2 great players you need an ensemble! Edit: didn’t finish the podcast until I went to bed last night but Adam you’re exactly right on the pens cup runs roster changes. Between 09 and 2016 I would venture letang Geno and Sid might honestly be the only 3 (ofc 4 if you count goaltending with fluery who was huge in specific moments, shutout in game 7 against the caps comes to mind)

Sometimes it feels like Adam and Jesse made the decision behind the scenes to entertain certain things on the pod only so they can cut these show up into little clips so they can “go viral” but never told Steve about it. Steve is making valid points about the Leafs and their game plan while Adam and Jesse look into the camera like this is The Office. Like what? Help the poor guy instead of going “lol Steve we know what’s happening why are you mad lol”

Like I've said before, any Leafs fans or executives that want to run this back don't want a winning team. They just want a good regular season team that never amounts to anything when it matters and puts up empty cardio numbers that mean absolutely nothing. For a team with the same number of 2nd round game wins in the past decade and a half as losses to their own employees, that's a sad way to be as a fanbase and a front office.

Liljegren won’t make more than $2 million. That’s bottom pairing money. I’m not saying the Leafs must keep him but they could certainly do worse than a RHD who can play on the top four on spot duty. Maybe under a new coach he could thrive.

Edmonton is in the cup final and Adam still can't grasp that the Oilers defense is so much better than he gives them credit for and thinks the Lljegren would be able to make that D core, when Reilly would be a bottom pairing or maybe a #4 D for the Oilers.

Treliving has got to be so nervous with this Marner situation after his recent moves in Calgary that all turned out horribly. First Gaudreau walked right after he just had a career year and Tre got absolutely nothing in return. Then he traded Tkachuk who had a career breakthrough in the next playoffs for a return that included a star player who had a record breaking drop off their first year as a Flame and still hasn't returned to form. He also signed that player to max contract length at one of the biggest AAVs in the league. Now he's faced with one making one of those big mistakes again. Marner walks for nothing, Marner gets traded for players/assets that don't work out while Marner becomes very successful with new team, or Marner signs a massive untradeable contract, keeping him there forever and sealing the Leafs' playoff fate for the next decade.

Draisaitl is also the third fastest player in history to hit 100 playoff points. 60 games. For some Leafs perspective, Matthews has 48 in 55. Also, Bennett was tripped, there was zero knee contact on either player - hence the tripping penalty. Watch the replay, it was the right call. Bennett was so horribly injured that not only did he skate off, he didn't even miss a shift.

Hey guys, Fraser Minten doesn’t play in BC anymore. The Saskatoon Blades picked him up before they went on a playoff run this year. Thankfully, my Moose Jaw Warriors sent him packing and we won the league though.

But yea it was a shame how much you guys spent only to lose to us in the conference round. Say whatever you will, but the real championship for the dub was Moose Jaw vs Saskatoon. We rolled over Portland and had things gone different and you beat us in 7 I’m sure you woulda swept them too.

I think, Ferris has alrdy "assessed" the potential UFA market for Marner and with Guentzel / Reinhart / etc out there, MM won't get a $12M+ deal. So he is trying to manipulate Leafs into signing MM knowing perhaps they are best chance for MM to get a 12M+ deal.

Players not talking to the media when pissed off is a shame, one of the best tv moments here in Sweden was when Peter Forsberg lost in the grand finals in the SHL (then elitserien), and on the ice to a reporter said he wanted to punch the referee because he thought he was that bad. Then asked what he thinks about Mats Sundin gonna come and join the Swedish team he says he doesn't give a sh*t he's going home to take a shower. That's some amazing reality tv stuff.

the "gretzky had a bunch of hall of famers" argument is weird because this is the cap era, maybe tampa has 4 guys...every other team is lucky to have 2. vegas has 1: pietrangelo. this isn't the same as edmonton vs islanders 50 years ago or even early 2000s detroit who probably had 7. florida may have 2 hall of famers, possibly 3 if tkachuk wins USA some medals or somethin cuz he ain't winning any scoring races or mvps against the field.

22:15 wrong about gretzky. Gretzky had Lumley, Callighen, Mcdonald, Semenko, Kurri, Tikkanen, etc on his line. Messier was second line with Anderson and linesman or simpson, or Nelson etc. Of course sometimes they played together. In the early years Gretz had no starts on his line and often led the league in goals and points.

I genuinely wonder if there is a trade to be had between the Leafs and the Islanders. Hearing Adam talk about needing to change up the defenseman a bit for a right handed guy who can shoot hard and play physical makes me think of Ryan Pulock. Not saying that would be a trade for Marner, but seems like that is a fit if the Isles move off of him
