What's the Best and Worst Olive Oil
Determining the "best" and "worst" olive oil can be subjective and depends on individual preferences, as well as factors such as the quality of the olives used, the production methods, and personal taste. However, generally speaking:
Best Olive Oil:
Extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) is often considered the highest quality olive oil. It's made from the first pressing of olives, without the use of heat or chemicals, resulting in a superior taste, aroma, and nutritional profile.
Look for EVOO that is labeled as cold-pressed or cold-extracted, indicating that no heat was used during the extraction process.
The best olive oils often come from reputable producers who prioritize quality and sustainability.
Worst Olive Oil:
The worst olive oil is typically one that has been heavily processed, diluted, or adulterated with other oils.
Lower-quality olive oils, labeled simply as "olive oil" or "pure olive oil," may undergo processes like refining and blending, which can strip away flavors and nutrients.
Additionally, olive oils that are old or improperly stored may have gone rancid, resulting in an unpleasant taste and aroma.
Ultimately, the best olive oil is one that suits your taste preferences and meets your quality standards. It's important to look for reputable brands, check labeling for terms like "extra virgin," and consider factors such as where the olives were grown and how the oil was produced.
When buying olive oil, consider these tips to help you select the best quality product:
Look for Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO): Extra virgin olive oil is considered the highest quality and is extracted from the first pressing of olives without the use of heat or chemicals. It retains more of the natural flavors and nutrients compared to other grades of olive oil.
Check the Label: Look for key terms like "extra virgin," "cold-pressed," or "cold-extracted." These indicate that the oil was produced without the use of high heat, which can degrade the oil's quality. Also, ensure that the label specifies the region where the olives were grown.
Packaging: Olive oil is sensitive to light and heat, which can cause it to degrade faster. Choose olive oil that comes in a dark glass bottle or tin to protect it from light exposure. Avoid plastic containers, as they can affect the oil's flavor over time.
Harvest Date: Check for the harvest date on the label. Fresher olive oil tends to have a better flavor and higher nutritional value. Aim to purchase olive oil that is from the most recent harvest, ideally within the past year.

@@uncareid5557 Thanks for your reply. Here in Australia, the olive oils we can buy in our supermarkets or boutique deli's are sourced primarily from Australia, Italy, Spain, Greece. I've never come across any Californian oils anywhere here . How to tell when the olives have been harvested? All but impossible! I looked at my bottles at home today. Best I could see was 2023. No month, just last year. Some brands and varieties don't even show this. Merely a use by date. How old? Who knows... At farmers markets or shows you can get local varieties which will tell you what you want to know. Aussie girl here,I've been using Olive Oil for over 30 years now, and wont use anything else. for a long time I've been buying a brand that comes from a farm in the state of South Australia where I live. they grow all their own Olives, then pick, and first cold press and bottle the oil all on their farm. its the best Extra virgin Olive Oil I've used. another tip for anyone who wants to check their Olive oil is genuine , and not mixed with other oils, is to pop your bottle of Oil in the fridge overnight. then take it out in the morning. if it hasnt gone all thick and gluggy, then you have a fake Olive Oil, or one thats been processed more that a good quality first cold pressed one. a really good Olive Oil will thicken and you wont be able to pour it until it reaches room temperature.

I do not trust any oils from California. I've tested them by putting a little in a plastic cup and then putting that in the frig for a few days. If it doesn't start to turn a slushy solid texture...then it is fake Olive oil. The ones I did this with from California all failed. The ones from Italy all passed. Fake oils will remain oily after a few days in the frig. This is a great way to test Olive Oils but some on youtube try to call this test a myth. Think about how much money they'll lose if everyone finds out about how to do this simple test! The test actually works extremely well. Others have done it on RU-vid and shown how many Olive oils are fake.

I have just started with olive oil and I am using California Olive Ranch medium that is claimed to be good, however it is bland from other countries. The next bottle I have is Atlas Organic Cold Press Extra Virgin olive oil only coming from one country, Morocco. The Atlas may be the better choice between the two.

What ticks me off, is pure olive oil is so expensive, that the common person can't afford it. I use the ones I buy for baking and frying mainly. I don't like a strong olive taste, so I buy the EVOO. It may not be from one country, but it is the only ingredient it shows on the bottle and it is for baking and frying. It is in the medium range of oil prices, but I am trying to give my husband the healthiest we can afford.

I live in Oklahoma, and unfortunately there are no real grocery store like what I grew with in Texas. So I have to use Amazon for several products. I've done some searches and have found good reviews for the following brand. Atlas 750 mL Organic Cold Press Extra Virgin Olive Oil with Polyphenol Rich from Morocco. Yes there are several better brands out there, but they start at over $50 a bottle and living paycheck to paycheck, those brands will never make it to my current shopping list.

If you can't/won't say which country's olive oil is better, how can you simply say the bottle needs to come from one country? If ANY of the multiple countries on a label are OK if not mixed, how can they be bad if blended together? No logic here, thus I'm sorry, but this video did not help me at all!

Best oil virgin olive oil preferred one we are a custom to olive oil is Comes From Marmara region and province of Ayvalik….. first squeeze and cold press that is the best …. You can find this oils in Turkish and some Arabic stores … new manufacturers I really do not buy it plus Spain, some Italian commercial brands and some Hellenic brands are not in my list … never buy olive oil in a thin can or plastic bottle…. No do not forget olive oil can be frozen and paste will still smell fresh olives when you spoon out…. Enjoy it.

The only olive oil I can get on this tiny island here in the Philippines is the Filippo Berio brand. The label says it is a product of Italy (with extra virgin olive oils from EU origin). It has a use by date but no origin date. I am skeptical about the "olive oils from EU origin"! It does have a fruity taste but also burns my throat slightly when I take it. Am I being fooled here?

I didn't know there was so much to take into consideration about olive oil.. I always thought as long as it was extra virgin olive oil it was the good stuff.. Yes, the olive oil that I have been buying have about 4 or 5 different countries listed on the bottle of where the olives came from.. I guess that's why it's like 15 dollars for a half gallon plastic tub and the better quality olive oils that are less than half the size that are in a glass bottle are much more expensive considering the amount..
