Chin ups are better for combat sports, wrestling ,mma, etc. It is compaund exercises and it is far more stronger than pull ups. There is a strong lock out point at the and of movment. Do 1RM weighted chin up , and do the same with pull up. You will se how how chin up is superior to pull up. Climbing is not important wrestling does. This is your only video , that your advice is wrong. Keep going , you are great.

Fr instead of doing pull ups i switched to chin ups and im doing weighted chin ups now and by biceps got a lot bigger, one variation isnt better than the other, both are great but pull ups target more the back anf chinups biceps/lats

I switch it up: Pull ups, chin ups, wide grip, close grip, neutral grip, holds, etc. My reps go up every session. I can feel myself getting stronger each time.

@@buffkangaroodog You don’t need it but I’m a believer in hitting every range of motion that’s realistic. Plus supinated may be better for biceps, neutral uses more brachialis. It may not even be enough to make a difference in physique but it’s just how my mind works

Chin up are not a beginner version of pull ups lmao. The ONLY difference between both is that pull ups puts more activation on brachioradialis and chin ups on biceps, the back is used the exact same way, so its completely stupid to do pull ups for the transfer to chin ups, they dont have the same weakness... You can be extremly good at pronated version and still your suppinated ones will suck, because you have very strong brachioradialis and weak biceps, and vice versa you can be extremly good at chin ups and sucks at pull ups, transfer is not optimal even if there is one Because the back is engaged the exact same way in both. So if you want to be good at one, do it directly, not the other. Yes pull ups carry over better to rock-climbing, but i mean you cant use supinated grip in this sport (only in rare shape where you can pinch) so its pretty comon sense. Pls dont be a sheep and fall in the category of "pull are better, chin ups are easy or less usefull" they are not the same exercices, they dont have the same weakness and they dont serve the same purpose, do both. If you do only one, bcs its for transfer, (pull ups for rock-climbing or mu) or chin ups for gymnastic-streetlifting, or injury its fine.

Just alternate all grips to build overall better strength. Although regular pull-ups are the most important but you should switch variations regularly, every training cycle probably.

​@@QASSHE Always warm up all of the joints before your workout: wrists, elbows and shoulders if you're doing upper body or ankles, knees and hips if you're doing legs (don't skip the leg day). I've been training for quite some time and haven't had any issues so far.

I have done both, chin ups and pull ups, and both using decent external weights. my viewpoint is: from "exercise" perspective, chin ups are superior because they engage more total muscles hence allowing heavier loading and more reps, and have better strength curve because biceps contribute at top position where back muscles are in relatively weaker position. you also don't need nice curls as a side benefit if you don't have bodybuilding mindset. pull ups rely more on initial momentum for this top part hence more explosive than chin ups but engage less total muscles. they also have shorter ROM. this is why chin ups are a staple in most of the renowned strength program like SS, GreySkull, etc.

I do weighted chin ups (supinated or neutral) to start my upper body day and I think they are incredible. I occasionally do some indoor climbing too. If you want to get better at climbing, go climbing and improve your hip mobility. If you want a joint friendly shortcut to jacked arms and back, do whatever grip you like but add weight. Neither chin ups or pull ups help that much with climbing, climbers clown on gym bros and they should. The weights in the climbing gym mostly collect dust, they have some token 45 pound plates sitting around that no one ever touches. Everyone is on the campus board or the wall. Finger strength and core strength for the win.

For some one dealing with impingement in shoulder chin ups are better option because it externally rotates your arm. Also biceps work & trains as well to support.

Chin ups are way stronger than pull ups, have great lock out point, and are better for combat sport like wrestling : single - leg takedown, clinch etc. Also, climbing is less important than fighting.

I do chin ups on Monday with my curls and cross body curls, and I do pull ups on Thursday with my curls and tricep pull downs. I feel like it’s a good way to start the workout cuz it works more than just the isolated muscles and it works on my V shape it seems. Works my neck and forearms and shoulders and back. When I used to do this formula a lot, I eventually moved on to do all these with a weighted belt on and went up in weight each time. Is this a bad workout routine? I liked it cuz it was simple and worked so much at once.

Hollow body, shoulder or slightly narrower grip have the most overall muscle activation and ROM and have the best carry over to calisthenics skills such as the muscle up.

I use chin ups on my arm day its such a good exercise dont skip it! And when you can do 10 perfectly executed chin ups then you can simply add weights. When you have a weak biceps include chin ups into your arm workout.

Weak bicep tendon, do exercises that work the bicep in the stretched position like incline curls and then another variation that trains the squeeze like machine preacher curl or spider curl, you'll be doing more chinups than pullups in no time

I acrually struggle much more with chin ups. probably because my wrist just doesn't rotate that much. I do some but I much rather pronated and neutral. chin ups are still a challenge for me and barely do 4.
