Let's compare the form of Bodyweight Chin-Ups and Pull-Ups.
First, with Chin-Ups, you maintain an underhand grip. Because one of the main functions of your biceps is wrist supination, the Chin-Up will challenge your biceps well. Also, your elbows are typically more tucked in during Chin-Ups, so the Chin-Up also focuses more on training the lower lats region of your back.
With a Pull-Up, you maintain an overhand grip. The elbows are typically more flared during Pull-Ups and this places more emphasis on your upper back muscles. With the overhand grip, your biceps still get trained, but to a lesser extent than with Chin-Ups.
So both Pull-Ups & Chin-Ups have their benefits!

Good information. Cause if your struggling to do regular pull ups (overhand pull ups) you can easily switch to the chin up variation because there are far easier and will build strength to do regular pull ups.

As long as you’re making shoulder extension both will hit the lats. Upper Back will be more activate as your arch more and precisely squeeze the traps

@@AdityaMukundan Lats are activated when doing shoulder extension, this means bringing your arms below and/or behind you. During a Pull Up, this motion is occuring all the time, plus, if having a wider grip, both shoulder extension and adduction will occur, meaning lats are the primary muscle in a Pull up, not the upper back. For the traps and rhomboids to be prioritized, you definitely need to be doing a row, and maybe some Reverse flies, so if you want to still do Pull up and focus primarily on the upper back, you need to change the movement and make it more of a row-like motion. For that, you'll need to arch your Back and have a Wide grip in order to make scapular retraction, which is the main function of the traps. So dont believe that bs of Pull Up=Upper Back bcs it depends, and a regular Pull up will always have as its targeted muscle the lats, rhomboids and traps are activated and participate just as secondary muscles.

@@AdityaMukundan yup. Dont worry about it too much, unless you're really trying for a very exaggerated arch, doing the regular Pull up will already target the lats. Just make sure your Pull up technique is correct and thats it.

I don’t think the lat isolation part is true for chin ups because if you look at a machine lat pull down it’s wide gripped bar almost identical to a wide grip pull up

If you want more from your pull ups do overhand wide grip and squeeze your traps in at the top of the bar. That will cover most of your back, forearms from gripping, your biceps and your brachialas. You need to slowly add weigh to make all the muscles grow. Atm I’m doing wide grip and close grip pull ups with a 10 kg weight between my feet.

The reason I hate bodybuilding is that they approach functional compound exercises as an isolation exercise concept. A chin-up is an upper body full body workout. Your body doesn't move by dividing the top and bottom

It's normal to feel your abs being worked a bit during Pull-Ups! But they shouldn't be the limiting variable. Try keeping your feet slightly in front of the body to be more stable during a Pull-Up.

Over hand grip all the way. Way more beneficial. When I want more bicep focus I just choose a closer grip. Underhand pull ups are overrated.

If your question is serious and has not been answered yet: No. Chin or Pull-ups cannot replace push-ups. The muscles worked are nearly the complete opposite. Pushups are a pushing movement and will emphasize your chest, triceps and front delts - if executed right. Chin ups will emphasize your back and biceps. For all of them: keep in mind to engage your core aswell, to keep stability and always aim for the full range if motion as far as it is possible.

Do chin ups. Pull ups are garbage for traps and forearms if you don't do correct form and range same as shown in this video. All people do bad form. And chin ups involves mostly lats, biceps and rear delt everybody lacking! There is a good tactic I can tell you about back training. Try pull ups first. Do only perfect form, jump on the ber and then go down in perfect form, use machine for pull downs. If you make this and reach 12 reps for 3-4 sets then you gonna get grip strength. Then you can do chin ups weighted for 6+ rep's and only this would be your real bodybuilding back training. Do them for 3-5 set's weighted and then do pull ups without weight so you first gonna effectively train big muscles and then with weightless pull ups you gonna train small muscles in arms. Also you can do Australian pull ups weighted. In this awesome experience you can train upper back while keeping straight posture so you will gain strength and size instead of just muscle tightness. Remember that doing jerkin pull ups with moving shoulders and spine against each other with lead to small arms, bulky torso without wide frame and lots of joints problems. Most of you are not pro athletes so you must use good form and tactical thinking to gain some decent proportional muscle frame that will help your safety in daily moves, keep you metabolism and cardiovascular systems fresh and that it. Better gain all those muscles correctly without consequences firt time and keep them.

Not necessarily true, according to the scientific literature chin ups and all closer grip vertical pulls bias upper lat regions, while wider horizontal pulls bias lower lat regions and some upper back muscles get higher activation like traps and rhomboids.

benefit for what? Lat development? Yes . General strength for other calisthenics excersises? Hell no. For muscle up e.g. you need to be good at regular. pull ups

The lower lats will be trained, which can be considered part of the lower back. But the spinal erectors will only have minimal activation :)
