So far riding my sons Pint I’ve come to realize two things. That I absolutely need one of my own, and much of my nearly 20 years experience snowboarding has really come in handy.

This is great advice! I just started riding my XR to work for the first time, and I noticed that I was getting some foot cramps on the 5 mile trip. I believe it was all to do with me riding in straight lines for commuting purposes, and not carving around and negotiating tight trails like I normally do. I barely used 25% of my battery on the way to work this morning, but my legs are jelly and my feet hurt. Yesterday I rode from 90% to about 5% around a disc golf course around foot trails and through the woods and I never had any fatigue at all. I think constant carving and turning is the key, as you say.

Very true, actually flexing your muscles over and over helps to circulate blood in and fatigue causing chemicals out of the muscles.

On day two, first multi-mile ride on my Pint today. Former active snowboarded, but been off the mountain for nearly a decade... life got busy 😔 Carving was a huge improvement on my front foot fatigue today. Awesome advice. Great day, huge smile the whole time. Only got up to 12.5mph (which I wasnt trying for, just noticed on the app afterwards, sign of progress, comfort, and growing familiarity) which is fine for me on a trail. Also, quick note. Had my first “over the nose” experience as well today, going up one of my secord or third hills/inclines. Went a little faster than my previous attempts, and dug the nose in. It was over in a flash... but, thanks to one of your previous vids with the guy from CarbonSmith I was dressed for the slide, and bounced tight back up and rode away thinking, “Well, honestly, Im kinda glad thats over with.” Great stuff, keep it up. In the days before my happiness machine arrived I poured over your vids and feel like I was super prepared to go, thanks to your insight.

Do you recommend a concave pad set? Maybe flight fins? I'm not into jumping. Just want the surest footing I can get. I feel the fins would offer the locked in feeling. Thoughts?
@tomphillips7858
@tomphillips7858 4 года назад
jymmy Dkid Definitely grab a Kush Nug. Had some CarbonSmith footprints on my front pad, but felt like it kept me from keeping both sensors active, so I removed the heel-side and use the toe-side to help carve turns. Both Nug and footprints helped with foot fatigue early on. Made my ride so much more comfortable. Haven’t gone with Flight Fins yet, though curb hopping is tempting, not really my plan to fly around too much. You don’t really wanna be too locked in, since bailing gracefully is a key skill. Invested in some Land-Surf Pint fangs (fang bumper) , might wanna look into that newly dropped (long anticipated) product, little insurance on the front end, plus they add a bit of a front grip, while stylishly staying outta the way till you need them...
@jymmydkid5633
@jymmydkid5633 4 года назад
Yes Bailing...I was told to practice that! Told to start off on grass soccer field and jump with both feet. Nug huh? On the rear... Googling... Does anyone make a silicone foot pad? Squishy..but NOT TO SQUISHY? Your view on "fishbones" MAYBE one flight fin? Front or rear depending on which is more comfortable. (Thinking rear) Something for your foot to rest up in for a stable feeling. I do not feel the fender can do this. I dunno. I'm still waiting for Fed-ex. It's like the time cartman was waiting for the WII to be released and couldn't wait so he froze himself in the meantime. Yea...that's me right now. Gathering info incite and accessories.
@tomphillips7858
@tomphillips7858 4 года назад
jymmy Dkid grass is the hardest surface to ride on. Nug is only for the rear pad, you don’t wanna mess too much with front sensors. There are other footpads out ther, but you don’t wanna go too soft. Every bit of pressure counts when riding, silicon, like wearing running shoes, will mess with that.

Carving is what the OneWheel is truly about... hell w/ speed. I have not found a better morning combo than OneWheeling and Vinyasa Yoga, sometimes w/ an Organic Bombshell Latte in one hand... Yes, The Best Day Ever! Experience has taught me to be mindful of hip, leg, and foot placement... The back foot stance is generally at a 45degree angle, though when carving the rear heel in my Vivo Barefoots will gently lift off the back plate a 1/4". Also, I have found that spreading my arms out like a skier w/ poles helps me maintain more control, and could potentially advert a face plant by running it out vs hands in pockets... haha. Hips are constantly in motion swaying in a subtle figure-8 w/ forward and backward centrifugal force of the gyro sensors in Custom Gemini Mode.

I just jammed downtown and back... 7 mile trip. No stopping. Second day with the board. I snowboard and can get those long 's"carves... Well they translate right or to pint. I'm loving it. You also get an opportunity to regenerate whole on your heal side because I teens to lean back into that side and push forward on toe side, gaining speed. It turns into this kind of push pull balance... Awesome flowing feels! Badass!

Can't tell you how much your videos have helped my (safe) entry into community stoke! Couple minor falls but was prepped with safety gear and a plan so not even a scrape to show. I feel like your videos, blogs and rec's prepared me for everything except for the neck pain I experienced on my longest ride so far. Feet were fine, fangs were installed and float was happening until my neck started to get stiff. I thought it might have been from a minor slip off i safely landed during turning practice but as I rode it got worse. I just heard you mention neck pain in your NYC day 3 video and wondered if you have any advice re: how to stretch, adjust feet, or build stamina? Thanks again for all you're doing for the community and please keep turning out content we love (been fun to hear and see the subscriber count race up)!

Turning is definitely more important than speed. If some of you are having trouble, try riding with the opposite foot forward. I snowboard goofy but find OW works better opposite. However, dismounting without wrecking my board and myself has been my biggest problem. 6 miles on my XR.

I'm also a new rider on a used V1. Had foot fatigue and started to do more carving drills at slow speed to build some confidence. At very slow speed i can tip the wheel and learned to turn right radius and still balance on tire edge. Nice camera work. What do you use? Just gopro and stick?
@freshlycharged
@freshlycharged 6 лет назад
I agree. Slow is key. I think on day 3 I managed to hit a top speed of 18 mph. No more of that for me. As a beginner, it's much more fun and safe to carve slowly. I use an old GoPro Hero 3+ with some cheap selfie stick. Stuff I already had but never used. Who knew making videos would be so fun?

Thanks for the tips. I just started today and got the hang of it (past Ninebot One experience helped, I think), but I was worried the wobbling was mechanical or something. Makes sense that it's probably just some undeveloped muscles. I'll try to work more carving in to see how it helps.

Just got a OneWheel for Christmas! I think carving is easier because your not trying to balance in the middle with ur muscles loose. I feel that’s why I wobble , or might be also be fear… When you’re in a slight carve ur muscles are tensed up trying to hold the constant edge/angle. And rather than trying to float in the center while going straight , when ur carving ur pressing down onto that edge. The resistance from the ground helps keep you balanced. Sorta like leaning against something so you don’t have to do ALL the work

Carving came very natural to me on this thing growing up skateboarding but i think they may also have hindered me? Leaning forward to go and back to stop takes some getting used to. i wanted to put weight on the tail when turning going slow or stopped and that can hurt. Also going over obstacles or stuff on this thing that would hang up a skateboard instinctively prepare to bail or shift my weight which can cause a bail. Luckily pain is a wonderful teacher and you learn fast what to do and what not to do.

Another tip is dont push it too hard especially when just starting out. Im just learning (ridden less than 5 hours total)and yesterday i rode 5 miles around a local park. You use muscles you never knew you had. This board is deceptive, you dont want to stop once you start getting the hang of it and will ride until those muscles are fatigued. On my drive home i could really feel my legs were dead. Today rode almost the same distance and was ok so you will get stronger, just be careful.
