Are you suffering from Hashimoto's related hair loss? If so, you are one of many thyroid patients suffering from the same condition. The good news is that while your thyroid may result in hair loss and hair fall, it doesn't have to forever.
We are going to talk about 3 types of hair loss as well as 4 of the most common causes of hair loss in Hashimoto's patients.
The 3 main types of hair loss include:
Telogen effluvium (diffuse hair loss over entire scalp)
Alopecia areata (patchy hair loss overall of the scalp)
Androgenetic alopecia (male pattern baldness with thinning at top of the scalp)
Four main causes of hair loss in Hashimoto’s patients:
#1. Decreased thyroid function → This leads to telogen effluvium and can be treated by taking thyroid medication or improving your thyroid function naturally. As you improve your thyroid function you should see a reduction in hair loss.
#2. Autoimmune-related hair loss → This leads to alopecia areata (patchy hair loss). This type of hair loss is mediated through your immune system so treatment should focus on balancing your immune system and not necessarily only on your thyroid.
#4. Hormone imbalances - This leads to androgenetic alopecia. Androgenetic alopecia occurs due to changes in testosterone levels which will impact hair loss. If you have Hashimoto's and you are experiencing this type of hair loss then you want to check your testosterone level and take supplements designed to improve testosterone metabolism as well as improve thyroid function.
#4. Nutrient deficiencies - Nutrient deficiencies often lead to diffuse hair loss. The 4 biggest nutrient deficiencies in thyroid patients include:
Iron (ferritin, women with healthy ferritin around 77 ug/L)
Zinc
selenium
B12 + other b vitamins
Do you have Hashimoto's related hair loss? If so, what type of hair loss do you have? Let me know below!

Did God send this man for us .. I cannot believe this doctor exclusively dedicated his channel to thyroid.. we are lucky , and yeah hair loss and stopped growing , I used to have hair almost down to my waist last summer when I got thyroid , now it's just below my shoulders , keeps falling out but the weirder , more disturbing thing is it stopped growing..my long long hair fell out and gone leaving the shorter .. I feel there's no hope.

so i am 17 years old and was almost 16 when i was diagnosed with hashimotos. the only reason we had found this was from mentioning my hair becoming super thin (all over) to my dr after having been very thick just months before. As you can imagine as a teenager in highschool i take pride in my hair and this has ruined my self image. anywho just so i make sure im correct. i should go ask my dr to run iron, zinc, and selenium tests and go from there?

You mention celiac disease - is gluten intolerance similar to how it affects the thyroid or are they completely different? So hard to pinpoint what causes what when everything seems interrelated.

Similar but not the exact same. It should still be avoided, though, if you have an intolerance such as NCGS.

So like… what if you’re on Medicaid? I received about 2 minutes of someone’s time despite me giving a bullet-pointed, brief list of all my symptoms. She brushed me off, like, had zero discussion with me and refused to test anything more than TSH. The phlebotomist was more kind, conversational, and attentive; he drew all kinds of vials just in case the doctor wanted to order tests after the fact. She did not. I’m tempted to be THAT person who goes to the ER for primary care… thoughts? Anyone?

What supplements are best for androgenic alopecia? I have elevated androgen levels despite optimal Testosterone and thyroid hormones according to my MD, who did a Dutch test on me. I’m currently on T4/T3 and bio identical progesterone. Hashimoto’s and AA has taken most of my hair on my crown and temples so I look like a man. It’s incredibly disheartening 😢

@Steph_Renee_RN
@Steph_Renee_RN 2 года назад
@@ohfifi thanks so much for your kindness and sorry to hear you’re dealing with AGA. It’s really awful! Yes, I was diagnosed initially with PCOS but then was told it’s early onset peri menopause and my progesterone is really low but estrogen is fine and high androgen levels. I’ve been supplementing with inositol, turmeric, saw palmetto and stinging nettle for 6 mths now. It seems to have brought my androgen levels down a bit. I’m hoping the hair I’ve lost starts to grow back! I also upped my protein amount big time and I’m seeing less shedding so fingers crossed! I definitely think it’s a multiprong approach for hormonal hair loss. All the best to you in your journey too!!

@@iam2908 Hi! Thank you so much for your message! Sorry for the delayed reply! I am starting to see a bit of hair growth around my temples thankfully after I went to a functional medicine hormone specialist and got onto bio identical female hormone replacement. It’s helped with weight too. I got the darn virus in June and lost quite a bit of hair in July but it seems to be trying to come back with time thank goodness. Also, I found really limiting carbs and sugar in my diet helps to keep my androgen levels lower. It’s a multi prong approach with this and no quick fix but I’m hoping in a year or so, it will vastly improve🤞🏻

I've had hair loss all my life. When I'm hyper (hashimotos) I lose a lot of hair but it always grows back. All around the hairline baby fine hair starts to grow in. I actually have a big bushy mop. What about :I’m diagnosed hashimotos (hairloss is telogen effluvian which was 1st noticed in 2018) . And low t was discovered. Liothyronine, bhrt has not helped hair grow back. Its still progressively thinning NONSTOP feel like I’m constantly judged by the amount I have left over but it’s such a sickly spiderwebby feeling 24/7 I can’t take it (ferritin is currently 32) my nurse practitioner doesn’t notice /suggest anything else for me to do except she said maybe a little more iron. (I took some for 3 months last yr and hair constantly pours off my head like water so I figured it wasn’t helping she said I didn’t try long enough) But I’m looking for hair to grow back . Supposedly I’m not low in anything else (but I noticed the “normal range” for everything is very wide for my age . Maybe should the thyroid script be raised ? I know why I lost thyroid function the dentist prescribed an antibiotic I didn't need and I wiped out all my good bacteria and got what the natural community calls candida, and not one Dr and I saw like 65 medical professionals and not one knew what was going on and of course they thought I was mental , until I went to the natural food store and the guy there figured it out in 30 seconds , I would literally explode on the inside like a bee sting but there was no visual it was all inside .. and the Drs couldn't figure it out at all ..and went to .. you have anxiety blah blah blah .. natural food guy said you need to start drinking kombucha and sauerkraut etc , got a kombucha and in 20 minutes I was better , and over time it improved but now I have no thyroid because of my dentist high price to pay for someone else's mistake..I gotta pay the price for the rest of my life which I'm sure got shortened because I have no thyroid.. sorry and thank you for doing what you do.
