Last month I insisted my doctor schedule a blood test for antibodies to see if they were causing my longstanding hypothyroidism. He looked puzzled and asked why. I told him about leaky gut, gluten and molecular mimicry and that people with one autoimmune disease are more likely to get another. He asked, _"Where are you getting this stuff?"_ Seriously. Incredible! It turned out that yes, I _do_ have both TPO and TgAb antibodies even though I'm eating keto, largely free of gluten, soy, corn and seed oils. This month I'm experimenting by avoiding all dairy. I've already seen a benefit. I hope I don't have to give up dairy forever, but I'm pleased to finally be making progress.

@@KenJackson_US I can't find one either. We have places in Omaha but the waitlist is like 8 months and no insurance covers anything at a functional doctor. It is infuriating. I've been going it alone for a while. Doctors don't like to be told what to test and why you do or don't want certain tests/medications. I had a similar experience as you when I tried a new doctor last year. He didn't want to test anything but I had a list of all the thyroid related tests I wanted. He told me it was pointless to have my antibodies tested if I tested positive for them in the past "bc they never go away". I wanted to see if they had lowered bc of the diet & lifestyle changes I had made. (They were significantly lower btw) All he wanted to do was prescribe me a 100 different medications, even after the first thing I said was that I wanted to stay off all prescriptions. He wanted to give me an antidepressant and metformin. I am not depressed, not overweight, do not have diabetes. Unbelievable. After my appt he said, "ok well, I'll see ya in a year if you want to make another appt." No thanks!

God Bless you all. It’s a total travesty for all of us and those who are no longer with us. People think it’s innocent incompetence but only on the front lines. The decision-makers and chair members of health organizations and the elite institutions that fund and direct policies at the top are sinister and there are centuries old documents and testimonies to prove it. Pray for the disclosure and dissolution of this age-old traditionary trend and the best evolution and improvement of these systems as a civilization.

Early 90s when we began to search for things on the internet, I found that Wilson’s Temperature Syndrome seemed to describe my symptoms. It was too much of a hassle to do the temperature taking protocol and I let that fall by the wayside. My symptoms were not severe at all but they were there nevertheless. I’ve never had healthy eyebrows or thick hair. I’ve usually lost motivation to finish most bigger projects unless others were counting on me. About seven years ago, a coworker was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s, and her symptoms did not quite line up with mine but I still was thinking that my symptoms were thyroid related. In the last six months I’ve re-researched it and have added iodine to my morning coffee. What a difference! By day two I was doing “normal” stuff without even thinking about it. Finishing what I started. Taking the trash out more often. Keeping up with the laundry. Going to bed with a clean kitchen sink. I’m so grateful.

Tried to get my VA doctor do those thyroid labs you mentioned-she’s not doing it. She did order a brain scan for memory problems, getting worse by the month-thus the scan. And this is a lot to remember. Printing out this transcript to give her-she will have a personal health crisis eventually!!! Dr. Hyman I am 71 years old and had been on thyroid medicine for 30 years. I got sick and tired of taking it and weaned myself off of it two years ago. I feel fine. Have not had any over-the-counter medication‘s in about 25+ years absolutely none. No Tylenol no Advil no cough syrup nothing and the doctors look at me as if I am a freak or something! I basically have been doing everything you said should be done that I can do. The doctors are devastated because it’s been over almost 2 year now and my labs are completely off the chart. Nevertheless I feel better than ever. How would you dealwith those type of patients. Doctors often ask me what do I use for pain when I have it and I tell them I find most of my medicine in my kitchen! I would really love to sit down and have a conversation with you.

Sorry for the delay everyone. I should have made it clear when I stated my labs work was off the charts. My apology. My labs were extremely bad. My doctor just ask me how am I feeling and I told him I feel better and that my bones felt stronger. He doesn’t pressure me to take them either way. He still calls in a prescription to the pharmacy for me but I never pick it up. However if it all possible I will try to find a doctor that specialize in hypothyroidism and know what they are doing. Another thing. Some years ago I became a raw foodie and was eating everything from the Earth nothing cook for almost 2 years and my doctor lower my thyroid medication twice in six months. At the time I was eating mostly raw kale, broccoli, collards and a huge amount of raw foods they said we should not eat with hypothyroidism. Yet my doctor lower my medication dose twice in six months. I truly wish someone would stop the madness and get to the bottom of the truth! Until then I guess I would be my own guinea pig with God’s blessing I will survive whatever the outcome. I truly want to be medication free! And that is from all pharmaceuticals absolutely!

I have never felt optimal whatever that is and since I don't have a full-time doctor I have to depend on walk-in clinics I have fallen between the cracks. I try to educate myself by listening to programs like this but you really need a doctor's help to get the requisitions for lab work and prescriptions. For anyone that has a doctor like Dr Mark you're so fortunate. Thank you for educating us.

I ordered some of my own tests from Labcorp and they billed my insurance. I got the results before my doctor got them. Free T3 and Free T4 were a different matter. I had to wrangle my pcp to get her to approve. She couldn’t understand the results, although my naturopath did. My MD never considered hypothyroidism or chronic fatigue and would only treat a symptom she thought she understood by looking at the bar graphs on my blood tests. She never considered a cortisol test either. Turns out I have near severe hypothyroidism and my saliva test for cortisol was deemed “terrible” by my naturopath. I suffered for 5 years due to my ex-MD’s incompetence. By the way, not all naturopaths or MDs understand how to diagnose or treat thyroid or adrenal issues. I’ve done all my work with a naturopath who lives very far away but Email and Zoom solved that problem.

Some things we need for good thyroid function are - 75mcg to 350 mcg iodide in diet (but not too much more as otherwise it reverses into worsening hypothyroidism) (cow's milk is a good source or goats milk if can't tolerate) (salt in America is already loaded with it) - need to be out of iron deficiency and probably copper deficiency - need some carbohydrate intake - maybe need some selenium, found in meat - need to avoid PUFA polyunsaturated fats (seed oils) as they inhibit thyroid - maybe need to lower estrogen if it's too high, with things like hesperidin in orange juice potentially

Levothyroxine affects gaba glutamine balance so it can cause anxiety, especially if you're stressed, levothyroxine can cause you to make reverse t3 which harms thyroid. It also affects histaminase so you may have allergy like symptoms: I had itchy skin. I am now addressing sibo instead as there is a found link between hypothyroidism and sibo. Many thanks dr Hyman, very interesting and useful information indeed I am 39 years old (1,75 m / 67 kg), engineer, I have been always very sportive and active person and I had a burn-out 1 year ago. Since then, I've experienced a depth psychological and physical depression, a real descent to hell. I was diagnosticated hypothyroidism in September 2023, because of my symptoms (fatigue, cold intolerance, Raynaud syndrome, low libido, dry skin, brain fog, depression, > 300 Total cholesterol, LDL=190 .... ) and my low T3 (TSH=1,5 / Free T4 = 14 / Free T3 = 2,25). I've been really in a hopeless state all that time. I didn't take any medication but starting to reduce stress (less sport activity, psychotherapy, meditation, breathwork ....) I started taken antidepressants (Escitalopram) at end of February 2024, prescribed by a psychiatrist. Just after that, my global state degenerate even more. Headaches, and so a deep fatigue, that I am in a sick leave since then and I've almost stopped all sport activity. One month after, I also started taking T3 medication (liothyronine) and Testosterone gel, prescribed also by my practitioner. I see no significant changes after I've started taking those medications. So firstly, I stopped taking antidepressant; secondly, I started carnivore diet 3 weeks ago; and finally, I decided to stop taking also Thyroid medication and Testosterone gel this week. Since then, my Resting Heart Rate has increased and also my HRV has decreased since never before. Some days I've noticed less anxiety, more energy and I've restarting the sport. But other days I am still feeling so fatigated and horrible. I've done a blood test 1 week ago and I am waiting the results. Any idea or similar experience, that would help me to get out of this abyss that I am living please?

BUT after I got the Moderna shot I started feeling really bad and my thyroid antibodies went through the roof and was told by an endocrinologist that I just wait until enough is affected to show up in the tsh and whatever else. Never had Hashimoto's til Moderna.

Sounds like you have spike proteins that run rampant on the vaccinated. Check out supplements that help to reduce these spike proteins.

Very interesting. Do you think this may cause vitiligo as I believe this is an autoimmune condition. Thank you

I’ve asked several Doctors to do a full thyroid screening, each said no need and one flat out told me no. I have a new doctor and we will see what she says. If the answer is no I’m going to find a company that will. So any suggestions would be appreciated. I have been experiencing several symptoms of thyroid issues for 7 years. On and off. I have a family history of thyroid disease… mom, grandmother and great grandmother. So I’m not sure why I get denied the testing. If anyone has any information on a functional doctor’s in Missouri…

the next time a doctor refuses to get those labs, you should ask them to chart in their notes that in light of your symptoms and family history, he/she declined patient request for thyroid screening.

You can order your own labs on the internet without a doctor. Dr. Ken Berry mentions a particular company in one of his videos, but there are many that do it.

I take sea kelp for iodine. Eat 2 Brazil nuts a day for selenium. Eat gluten free. Support my liver with livatone and dandelion tea because it helps convert t3 t4. And castor oil packs over liver and thyroid.

Very expensive out of pocket and way too many insurance providers will not cover it. Check your policy

Very valuable podcast. Look for a good Functional Dr., who takes your insurance. They can order tests using proper codes for insurance. Some deeper level tests may be out of pocket. Between LabCorp & Quest Diags, I prefer Quest for lab results explanations and normal ranges are on line without you taking the test. Both also offer some common test panels. But you will likely need a Functional Dr to help interpret & make recommendations, such as supplements. A good nutritionist as well as a Functional Dr. is not easy to find. Allergist also. I haven’t used him, but check out Dr Hyman’s services.

step one to true health -- NOTHING that helps, is covered. I had to learned that in the past three years going broke getting well again. Better than having money and being disabled. You can make the money back......insurance is in bed with the ones who don't want you well. Save yourself frustration.

@@dbdesigningTHE VERY LUCRATIVE MEDICINE INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX is about PROFIT MARGINS not health. Too many Americans don't really get that. It's an industry. A medicine industry with a corporate mindset.
