Stop Hoarding THESE Pokemon Evolution Items - Legends Arceus 

Austin out here exposing and dragging every single RPG player's tendency to hoard 👏😂 - reminds me of that one Prozd skit, "Use an Elixir! It's the final boss!" "But I only have 97..." 😂

I always keep extras just in case I get a shiny I want to evolve. I realize I won’t get 12 shinies that evolve with a thunder stone, but hey, you never know.

Technically, you don't need to evolve some pokemon to their final form for the research. Evolving them from their pre-evolution form counts. So evolving a gastly to a haunter still counts as evolving a haunter. Unless they changed that with the update.

The issue I have here is that you might not NEED the stones, a good bit of the time it's just convenient. And unless you're super hurting for cash there's not really a good reason to sell them.

Evolving a Pokemon counts as catching the evolved form. So you can use all the items to evolve Scythers instead of catching Scizors and so on.

Funny thing that happened today: found my first alpha Ponyta... just as it started raining. So missed that. But guess what it was replaced with? Shiny Bidoof 😆

Me (who played through the main game really slowly and thus experienced countless distortions in the Mirelands before the Cyndaquil line were a possibility, making the Porygon line guaranteed to spawn): Wait, wut??

The thing that’s really crazy is in older games people could argue that they wanna keep those evo items in case they get the same Pokémon but with better stats. But in this game that doesn’t matter since you can raise any pokemons stats to be perfect and change their nature. So there really is no reason to hang onto extra items

For Pokémon that require you to find big, or small, etc specimens. You can trade them back and forth, and each time the big/small Pokémon come back to your game it counts as a new point for that entry.

I dont think there’s anything wrong with keeping them unless u need quick cash or for some reason you’re aiming to keep 999 of every item

In every game, I like trying to acquire every item just for funsies. I always keep at least one of each item in the inventory at all times since I organized everything by type and don’t like seeing anything missing or out of order. 😅

I want to also point out that if the 12 link cables are for the evolution entries in the pokedex, evolving the previous pokemon counts as a mark in the pokedex (evolving a mackop into machoke counts as evolving a machoke), making evolving a machoke into machamp (and all the other trade evos) not required.

One thing I want to add that I did when doing evolution research. Evolving toward a form counts for its research, not just evolving from it. Say Shinx needs 3 evolutions and Luxio needs 3 evolutions. You could potentially evolve 3 shinx into luxios and it would complete both since evolving a shinx in luxrio counts for both. I did that to skip all the linking cord evolution requirements by evolving 3 gastlys, 3 abras, 3 machops and 3 geodudes. So it is in fact possible to not need an evolutionary item at all for research if the pokemon that needs it has a previous form you can evolve. Unless they fixed that in the latest patch. I hope they didn't even if I was already almost done with all of them.

The thing about the trade evolutions is that you don’t even need 12 since if you evolve Abra, Gastly, Geodude, and Machop into their respective middle stages they’ll actually count it as evolving so in reality you only need about 4 since evolving the first stage into the final one adds a check mark for each member of the line

Awesome video as always! It’s amazing how much you really dedicate to provide detailed info. Just an idea here, you could always “make a copy” of you Google sheets and have that shared with whoever wants to see it, that wouldn’t affect the sheet you keep for personal use!

The reason I would hold on to them is if someone wants me to evolve their Pokémon - especially for BDSP. If they can go back after bringing them in.

One thing about starring items (the Favorite mark) - as AJP said, they'll appear at the top of your inventory (and Item Storage), but if you run out, then get some later, that new stack will automatically be marked as a Favorite, so you can just sort again and it'll shuffle itself to the top.

Hearing him say that about the Ice Stone after I spent 4 1/2 hours grinding for one is like a slap in the face 😂 (I’m super early in the game btw)

I keep them for shinys, I kept a razor claw just for that reason, because I got a shiny and evolved it

When you share things on google drive, you can prevent people locking your files by sharing a .zip file containing the file you would like to share. Now if somebody locks it up by mistake, its just a copy of your file in a zip file. Be sure to include revision numbers/dates.

Regarding the path of solitude battles you mentioned at the end, I love the Eevee one where you use Mimic to copy the dark type move that the Zoroark has

Evolution items aren’t really worth much, so I just keep them. They may come in handy to save some time. BUT something I was hoarding for absolutely no reason, that actually made me like a million dollars once I sold? DUST items! The first 2 tiers I keep a nice pile of still since they’re not worth a whole lot (still adds up though), but the 2 highest tier ones can add up to a LOAD of extra cash. Selling them gave me more money than I’ve had in my 120 hours of gameplay. Which was helpful for this new update since I’ve been using a lot of balls now

The general rule is you only need two of any evolutionary item (with the exception of the link item since it’s for multiple previous trade-only evolutions, you’ll need two for each Pokémon that requires the item). One to evolve a regular shiny and one to evolve an alpha shiny so you don’t have to rely on just encounters for, let’s say, a shiny Electivire or shiny alpha (Shalpha) Electivire.

A thing I just noticed while I was working on my dex; if you evolve a budew/machop/abra into roselia/machoke/kadabra, their evolution counts towards roselia/machoke/kadabra's evo chart as well; needing even less evo items.

For anyone trying to get Ninetails (regular) there Is a alpha Ninetails always st the volcano in the islands area top right of the map I believe it's called cobalt coastlands

I like hoarding a bit of extra. I might need to evolve a shiny of it. Im so glad I hid one linking cord. I was able to evolve my shiny Graveler into a Shiny Golem.

3:29 I didn't know to get a Scyther to evolve into Scisor I needed a Black Augurite, I thought that was Metal Coat? I've been reading the dex, a lot of it is a long road because of items needed or level grinds and EXP candy hunting from Alphas, but usually you need to evolve between 1 and 5 of a species, but it saves time, especially with friendship evolving Pokemon. So rather than waste time evolving 25 of a Pokemon that I know just needs 3, I evolve 3 and catch the evolved state, which you can do for many in the base game, like Electivire so you don't have to waste time looking for 25 Electirizers, just wait for a bit and keep catching the Alphas after evolving the required number. You could catch many of the evolved forms via the base game Time-Space distortions. With the Daybreak update you can catch the evolved forms from massive mass outbreaks. This works well for the Roselia side quest, it's quicker to complete this way. The only issues I've had locating Pokemon is finding Alpha Cynadquil or the evolve Alpha forms, it seems to be really rare even with the massive mass outbreaks.

Shocked to hear that Porygon and porygon2 and z are rare in distortions. They always show up for me

Note on Evolutions, an important one! Evolving a Pokemon counts as "Number Caught" AND "Number Evolved" for the pokemon it evolves INTO. It also takes into account Alphas (for Number of Alphas caught) and day/night cycle (for caught during day/at night), meaning you can get 'caught at night' by just evolving the pre-evolution during the nighttime and it'll count! (Which makes 'caught at night' much faster for Pokemon like Clefable, who only appear one at a time outside of MMOs, while Clefairy are more common).

i personally am very consistent when it comes to inventory management, i always go back to the village to sell some items and then i craft some more balls and i call this restocking, its just how i am with any rpg, but this video helped alot with the evolution items ty so much and plz keep up the good work austin!

I think I’ll hold onto the extra’s anyways, they updated the game once, and this is game freak we’re talking about, I would be wholly unsurprised if a future update removes massive mass outbreaks or otherwise makes you wish you had kept them

You mentioned that in order to get credited for "catch X Pokemon Y number of times" you can either capture them or evolve them. I haven't seen this mentioned elsewhere, but trading the same species back and forth also counts towards the number captured. It's how I did some of the more tedious entries like the starters, trading back and forth between mine and my sister's save

Hey Austin I think I might have some simple info for MMO shiny hunts Shiny pokemon seem to be predetermined before you've even left the village, for any and ALL MMOs that have spawned in. That means you can check out two MMOs for whatever pokemon you want, and no matter how many times you miss a group or the MMO ends, or hell maybe even if a Shiny fail happens- If you have a save point at the village you can just close the game and reopen it and that same pokemon will show up. That means you can find the most optimal route to get as many shiny pokemon as you want. And if you're me and you have two MMOs happening at once you can go through both of them and find out which one is more valuable. Hope this information is useful.

I've been clearing out my boxes regarding evolutions - I'd been keeping spares of pokemon for the 'number evolved', but lately I've been keeping 1-2 Pokemon I'm trying to perfect the dex entry for and carrying 4-5 others who need levels/friendship to clear those entries so I can just limit the need to a single Pokemon of that species and release the rest to make some room.

Hey Austin can you please make a video explaining the new alpha shiny hunting method by systematically choosing to engage in different combinations of multi-battles to get mons from the different chains in a known alpha horde outbreak?

Austin: the chance of Porygon showing up is not great Me, not even in the post game: has 5 porygon, a porygon2, and 2 porygon-Z including an alpha from space-time distortions in the crimson mirelands

The only evolution item I remember using was the shiny stone for Togetic and the Dubious Disc for Porygon2. I got the Gengar and the Eeveelutions from STDs (lol), Alakazam from Obsidian Fieldlands, Golem from Coronet Highlands, and Scizor from Alabaster Icelands. Other pokemon that need the other evo items, they're readily found in the wild and in the STDs.

In two full playthroughs and now a third one, for whatever reason, Thunderstones have been insanely rare for me. I'm a hoarder of items and will go around each map like every day breaking rocks and stuff. Even then, I never got past having two Thunderstones in one playthrough. I have no idea why. Have tons of Waterstones and Firestones, as well as a few of the other elemental stones. That's just how it's been for me. Raichu is one of my favorites and I love seeing the different sizes, so having too many Thunderstones would be great for me, personally. I'm really sad nobody likes Alolan Raichu, though. He never seems to show up anywhere in Pokemon anymore.:(

For the Eternal Battle Reverie. I ran a full bulky team all using Rest and you will climb up to battle 50 with ease. Goodra, Garchomp and Arceus along can get you up there.

I don't know if this changed for version 1.1 but for all pokemon if you can trade them it counts toward the catch number in the pokedex so that could save some items

Idk what happened the other day but i was in alabaster icelands, and i came across two shiny pokemon back to back within 60 seconds. No mass outbreak. They were just wild and chillin. I haven't even beaten the game yet this playthrough. So i was surprised to say the least. My first wild shinies that weren't staged.

I've been using the items to evolve to final stage, just so when I release them, I get the best grit possible.

There's an Alpha Electivire readily available in Coronet Highlands, so you don't even really need the Electirizer. Most or all of the Linking Cord evos are also available periodically as Alphas in the wild too.

You can't use the Glacier Stone in the icelands to evolve Alolan Vulpix; I tried it already. You only get one Ice stone anyway, so may as well use it for what it's meant for.

My favorite quality of life improvement is making evolution items more accessable, especially the trade evolutions. Long ago, I got a Golem all by myself. I was over the moon. So I keep getting one in later playthroughs. Golem isn't something I normally get because it is such a pain to get. I am glad that Legends Arceus allows that. It even adds in Machamp, Alakazam and Gengar. That is so nice. Geodude is available really early so I put it on the team right away. Then I continue to use it even to the late game. It is fantastic to fully evolve it to Golem. This is a great Pokemon to use with both the ground and rock typing. Ground is even one of my favorite types. I totally get why the game is the way it is. Accessibility is important. Austin John is an absolute pro and expert at this game. I have watched his other videos. So he is going to have evolution items coming out his ears. This isn't a bad thing. It is just not realistic for all players to be this way. I think using evolution is a tradeoff really. Austin John prefers to minimize it. I don't. One can catch a first stage Pokemon and evolve it later, or they can catch the evolved form in the wild. Pick your poison. It takes time and effort to evolve a Pokemon. However it is more difficult to catch evolved Pokemon in the wild. Personally I prefer evolving the Pokemon. Catching the wild Pokemon at higher stages is a pain in the butt. I can level up super fast in the Obsidian Fieldlands. I put five low level guys in my party. Then I put in my trusty Starapter. I grind on the alpha Blissey and nearby Machokes. Leveling is so fast. Pokemon can evolve by level up real quick. It takes one or two runs through the area. Maybe a few more for species that evolve at higher levels. It is real quick and easy. Alpha Blissey is difficult though. So It takes a lot of training and effort to get a Pokemon that can beat it. Starapter is great for this. Starly is available at the beginning of the game, and it is super common. When fully evolved Starapter can beat Machokes with flying attacks and Blissey with close combat. I this first area, I became good at farming stones. The area by Alpha Blissey is good for farming water and thunder stones. The area by Alpha Alakazam is good for farming fire stones. I got five of each Eeveelution except the two Sinnoh ones. I don't have any Sinnoh ones yet. I am waiting until I get to the last zone, so I can get to the ice rock. I also have quite a few Raichu. For this playthrough I doing perfected entries. I have progressed nicely. I have high levels and star rankings. I am currently on the third zone. The next part of the story is the Arcanine boss fight. With the perfection, I have multiple evolved Pokemon. I have evolved plenty of Pokemon via friendship. I get used to it. Leaving up fast helps a lot. I am also good at riding around Wyrdeer and having the Pokemon pick up everything. So far my friendship evolution has mainly been for Eeveelutions and Pikachus. I prefer doing the evolution, and that is my personal preference. I am definitely not focusing on space time distortions. The waiting in camp is a pain the butt. I just go for the items. I also focus on catching the exclusive Pokemon. So far it is Porygon and Johto Sneasel. I do plan to get Magnemite. I think I will just keep the items until I stop needing them. One item I don't need anymore is the water stone. I got five Vaporeons. So I can fill the entry. I still have quite a few water stones left. It is a lot for a rare item. I looked up the lists of stone evolutions in Legends Arceus. I was surprised that Vaporeon is the one one that needs a water stone. That is so weird. Couldn't there be Staryu, Shellder or something? Polywag would be really cool. I think I better sell my water stones. I might use another one of I wanted a shiny or alpha Vaporeon. It isn't likely. In that event, I know how to get more water stones. I think I might be done with thunderstones. I have quite a few Jolteon and Raichu. I need to double check their entries. In this video I learned that Magnezone and Nosepass can evolve in Coronet Highlands. That would be easier to get multiple Magnezones than using Thunderstones. It is the same situation as the Sinnoh Eeveelutions. I haven't caught Magnemite yet in this playthrough. It is one of those time distortion ones. It is something I like on my team. In previous playthroughs I used Thunderstones for Magnezones. Now I am thinking that the location method may be better. I am so close to unlocking Coronet Highlands. All I have to do is the Arcanine boss fight. It isn't something that needs Magnezone anyway. It is weak to fire. I like to use Golem for this. The Hisuian version of Arcanine has a quadruple weakness to water and ground. So I use Golem and it's ground attacks. I use Walrein as my water Pokemon. However it is weak to rock attacks due to the ice type mixed in. It is too risky. Golem is resistant to both fire and rock. So it is great. If I get easy access to Magnezone using a location, I might sell my extra thunderstones. I only catch evolved forms for special cases. Some Pokemon have to have alphas caught, like Raichu and Bibriel. Some need to be caught in the air. I do snag up evolved Pokemon is they are a shiny or random alpha. I did catch Porygon 2 in Time distortion. That is a special case of a super rare Pokemon. I tried catching Porygon Z, but I can't do it. It keeps breaking out of ultra balls. I haven't done multiple evolutions for trade items. It probably gets easier later in the game. With all the zones open, there are more lost satchels. So that is more Merit Points to farm.

3:29 Scizor doesn't use the Black Augurite that is Kleavor and Scizor uses Metal Coat. 4:30 you mean Ice Stone not Water Stone. Water Stone is for Vaporoen which does need the Water Stone.

It used to be that you would *want* to hold on to evo items (or hold off on regular evo); not use them immediately to allow the pokemon to raise its stats or learn specific moves before evolution as this could have drastic effect to the stats boost during the evolution, or allow the 'mon to learn a move much earlier than its more evolved iterations. Things like Dratini learning Hyperbeam @40 vs Dragonite learning it at 60, or using items to focus on leveling speed stats so "slower" mons can have a higher speed stat when they evolve into their final forms. With the move trainer being so easy and accessible, being able to swap moves out on the fly; as well as the removal of IVs and EVs for Effort levels and grit, it just isn't as intensive a process as it used to be to level and train a pokemon to have the stats and moves you want. It's a nice change, and I hope Scarlet and Violet improve on the new system, instead of reverting to the old, less intuitive methods of training, teaching, and evolving.

Worth noting. Evolution items are still useful when you are looking for specific natures

my first shiny alpha was a shiny alpha mamoswine that i found on accident in the tundra erea while catching bibarel, and also he was my first ever shiny i caught myself ever, i caught him at 07/08/2022 then later that same day i caught a shiny goomy from a massive mass outbreak.
