Jerking the bar off the floor is a really common issue I see especially new lifters have, but also quite a few 'experienced' lifters. For such a simple movement, a lot can still go 'wrong'.
I prefer the cue to feel the bar heavy in my hands. also after you have enough weight on the bar you should be able to see the slack be taken out of the bar when the when is still on the ground but the bar starts to move. I don't mean a bend when there is so much weight but there is a visible difference
I mean - it’s obvious to not jerk on the initial lift anyway. Its an injury preventive move. Not to mention when using substantial weight, the jerking will put you in a position of weakness automatically. You need to get it off the ground and then PLANT YOUR ASS DOWNWARDS to get it going.
Nice video. I've been settting my back like this for quite a while, pulling the chest up as hard as I can. However, ever since the weight went over 285, my upper back couldn't keep up with the increase in weight as it goes into flexion during the pull. I am now pulling 375 for 5 reps and my back feels fine despite going into flexion. Only a bit of soreness in my upper back the next day. Would you advise going back to a weight where my back doesn't go into flexion (which would be about 315), or to just keep adding weight the way I'm pulling right now?
I've heard Rip say in a podcast before that if your form is breaking down every time then you wanna go back to a weight that you can maintain form with, and go back up from there
@@Whatupplaya Thanks. I'm just not sure if my current form breakdown is within acceptable levels. Which would be hard to judge without showing a video I suppose. Either way, I'm doing some more halted deadlifts to focus on bracing some more. Hope that'll help solve it
every single dead lift tutorial video. including the ones on this channel . teach you how to do the deadlift in a different way . its very confusing. in this clip they are telling you to lift the bar off of the ground using your chest. in other clips (on this channel) it says to push down on your legs as if you are doing a standing leg press. so confusing !!
Why does the guy drop so hard? 225 lbs should be dropped so lightly it cannot be heard. Once you're above 600 lbs, maybe you have to drop the deadlift, before your grip goes out, and half your shin skin is ripped off by the knurls on the barbells. Otherwise, and even more so with iron plate, let them down as a feather. Only exceptions are the snatch and the clean & jerks, which are actual explosive movements. Deadlifts should be super silent.
Goodness me... why the banging of the plates... if you have to drop it it's too heavy for you. My coach always told me that you lift and set gently. The moment you aren't gentle you are at you limit and you concentrate on a gentle lift... That is crazy... I lifted and set gently day one with 40kg. now I do it with 120kg... I have never once dropped the bar in the lift and never plan to... still you need to be noisy in most modern gyms to be heard over the music.
