Same old Mistakes - I've seen 100,000's of times!! IT'S TIME TO STOP!! Stop the torture!! Stop the Wasting of Money!! Stop the Heartache!!! 1 on 1 Meeting with Micah - www.backyardli... 3D Backyard Design - www.backyardli...
The reason the dinning area is under the gazebo is because of mosquito’s. I keep seeing these designs and none are functional. I spray the yard but still from May to end of July there are just too many bugs to eat in an unscreened area.
Hi i am in Dubai, I have two questions I wish your will address on what items should we splurge and what should we not. And another question my landscaper has suggested we use crazy pattern stones for my hardscape, how can I judge that the stone is a good quality stone or not?
I am currently helping another client from Dubai and I would love to visit there. I think I could help answer your questions with a quick zoom meeting. Clint the link below to schedule that. Once the project kicks off I wanna come see u in person if possible?? CANT WAIT
For sure. I have some time next week. Just book an appointment here. www.backyardlivingguyde.com/coaching im looking forward to meeting u and working with u Jon. Have a nice weekend
Stay away from bad garden designs, which aim on cramming lots of building, appliances, indoor features into open space. It not only destroys nature, with hardscapes, building, plastic carpet lawns, it also bloats spending for questionable benefits. The good old mobile BBQ, garden furniture, inflatable pool had the same benefits, at a fraction of the cost. I don't need to keep up with anybody to enjoy my garden.
I love my dining table under my structure. Living in the tropics we get heavy rain as well as extreme heat during the day. The structure allows us to enjoy the outdoors in all weather.
I totally understand. Others have said something similar... I do agree that with those conditions enjoy the cover with Dinning or any other way.... My focus is on enjoying the space with those u care about and it sounds like u have that very much "covered" 😉. Thank u for watching and for commenting
I'll be there this Year. Congratulations on the new house. Would a quick zoom meeting get u started or is it a blank slate where a 3D design would be best? Thanks Cynthia hope to help u out this season
Hi Ben, I would love to visit. It would be a good idea to start with the 3D Design. Does that sound like a good start for you? www.backyardlivingguyde.com/3d-design-process
I was pretty skeptical about this video at first, it’s so easy to Monday morning quarterback on anything. However there are some pretty good tips throughout this video and I found it to be very informative and helpful. I like the idea of moving away from the house and creating destinations as well as not limiting a covered structure to one thing like hot tub or table.
I just started watching! I’m an interior designer but my mom was a master gardener and I have a black thumb! Interiors and 3-D are my strengths, but I’m honestly so intimidated thinking about going outside, especially thinking about plants!!! We bought a mid-century house and the large backyard has so many Different things we’ve inherited. It’s got so much potential, and we want to use it, but it’s pretty overwhelming looking at what’s there and how to make something cohesive that will work for us. I know I can come up with a good plan, but I am doing lots of research. Your videos have helped a lot. I have already measured and drawn out the yard, now we need to discuss as a family what we want, (I have a history of just doing what I want 😂 as a designer- my poor husband is in tech but started in graphic design!) I will focus on creating rooms, and then work up the courage to think about plants (I can hopefully not kill)! I’m in South Seattle, WA, lots of rain.
Hi Marianne, you are on the right track. I think you will Design an amazing Backyard Living Space. I would be happy to have a 1 on 1 meeting at the end of your design process just to make sure you have it all right. That way you can move forward with total confidence that you are not missing anything. I am in Portland Or so I can relate to the rain :) . Have the best weekend.
Great tips and advice - thank you, Micah! I was just a little surprised by your advice to put a dining table outside a backyard structure...We live in a 100F+ California summer zone, and, honestly, there is NO dining without a solid shade. Actually, it is really quite hard to enjoy your backyard in such a heat, anyways. Q: What would be your advice for a backyard enjoyment design for such extreme heat? Thanks!
Probably use the structure for a lounge area and put the dining area outside with a big umbrella! 😊 but honestly if you like your dining area inside a structure, go for it! I’ve seen a lot of structures with a dining area in it and it looked absolutely gorgeous! If you like it and it makes you have dinners there more often because of it, you should leave it like that.
Lol. Sorry u felt like that. I just can't handle my viewers wasting money and making mistakes. I think I had some high energy because I have heard so many horrible mistakes stories. I just want to help avoid them. I wish you the best with your project. Feel free to let me know if u need any help. Thank u again
Your so called “mistakes” would depend heavily on the climate you live in. Here in Arizona, if your dining area was out in the open it would NEVER get used, especially in the summer! Shade and cover is mandatory here. In your closed off mind or area what you’re suggesting may work, but don’t say that these design decisions are mistakes because depending on the environment they aren’t.
I just found you! I need to watch your videos over and over and over until it sinks in, ( says the one with the gazebo over the hot tub) I'm so impressed with your knowledge and advice! Finally! someone that goes beyond which fertilizer to use. (At least with that if you get it wrong you can still easily correct it, unlike design). I'm in the Greater Toronto area. I doubt you're coming up this way, but hey keep making those videos.
Hi Lynn, I can totally help and I would love to fly to Toronto. In fact I had two separate Zoom meetings today with people from Toronto (u might being seeing them soon on a RU-vid video). Let me know how I can help? 1 on 1 or 3D Design? Happy to help in any way possible. Thank u for watching. I hope we can work together.... I would truly LOVE to visit Toronto.
Hi Micah, I discovered you and your team just about 45 days ago!! I LOVE that you promote outdoor living & want to avoid future mistakes. NEED YOU & YOUR DESIGN Team to create those destinations throughout the backyard in Milwaukee, Wisconsin! Your creativity for that 3D design is requested ! Help us to see the covered structure, kitchen/bar & fire pit!! I'd love to hear from you in Brew city!!
Hello Synwill2012. I am 100% committed to helping you out. Yes, lets get the Design done and YES I would LOVE to visit Brew City. www.backyardlivingguyde.com/3d-design-process Fill out the form and lets get moving on the Design. Feel free to reach out to me if you need ANYTHING at all micah@paradiserestored.com
MICAH I NEED YOUR HELP!!!! I tried to do it on my own but I need U! I am in Fort Hood Tx where we house the 2nd Largest military base. The contractors for backyard living are few here but I am 45-50 mins. from Austin and Waco. MICAH please come see me I need this work done ASAP Please!
U see my face both ways 🤣. The difference is that we draw a 3D Design or u can meet with me via zoom and I'll help u through the problems (but does not include the drawings).
Heck yeah! No problem. I promise I will come visit but let's start with the 3D Design or Zoom meeting ... 3d design www.backyardlivingguyde.com/3d-design-process 1 on 1 with Micah (me) www.backyardlivingguyde.com/coaching
I just got 13 pine trees cut down in my yard to get rid of the maintenance but now I have all this space that had so much potential. I have the perfect yard for destinations but it has so many boulders and obstacles, I don’t know where to start. I live in Spokane Washington. Please help me! 😊
I literally use the Sims 4 for PC. Base game is free, and you can use it to build basics for a 3D walk-through if you're confident to do it on your own. Takes some getting used to, but once you figure out how to build in game, it can boost your confidence in DIY for home and land. You can even add little people to it, or mods for items not usually in game. Good luck all, and thank you for the video. ❤
May you give me an estimate on how much I would have to save to redue my front and backyard. I'm not ready, but it will redue both eventually. Salem, OR.
Oohhh boy do we need help! We're in Murray City (a division of Salt Lake City), Utah. With two mid size dogs and my being disabled, it's a near impossible feat
What to do with your space under a deck? We’re on a sloped lot. Main floor walks out to the deck area. Walkout basement walks out to empty space under the deck. Thanks in advance.
I need help. Long Island New York. We had a paver patio installed last year but we missed the mark. Our hot tub is set to be delivered early June. I’d like to add a detachment structure for shade but don’t want to make any more mistakes. I think the 1 on 1 meeting can be helpful.
Hi Jarrett, YES for sure. Get the 1 on 1 meeting. I will make sure everything is correct.... I am SO DONE with people having to redo things. I promise this 1 on 1 time will be worth it (probably at least 10 fold). 1 on 1 with Micah (me) www.backyardlivingguyde.com/coaching . I hope it sounds like a good plan for u moving forward. Have a nice night.
I would love to consult and get 3d design. I know I have a Lot of mistakes, Like a hot tub under a gazebo. at this point I can’t move it but I want to add an outdoor kitchen to my space and I’m debating on if I should add another gazebo to my backyard. so having a one on one would be great.
Been watching your videos for years. Finally just signed up for an appointment. Really enjoy the content and hope you guys can help make my yard great.
I know I can't afford you Micah! I can't afford hard scape either. But I live in Milwaukee Wisconsin & have a backyard with 3 big dogs. I am going to try to make my concrete patio 2 &1/2 times bigger cause my dogs leave a mud path & divots all over my shadey yard. I can't wait to see what you do for others!!!
I made uneven gazebo pavement..Planted Scott’s grass seeds during the summer…big mistake, waste of money. I cleaned up in September and reseed with Pennington Kentucky 31..best decision ever. I’m done spending on my back yard though, it’s gonna run me into bankruptcy.
Love love your channel Micah! Considering moving from Beaverton to Tennessee or Texas next year and getting future design ideas for backyard outdoor living! I don’t want the be one who makes mistakes but want to do it right the first time!
Hi Sharleen, thank you so much for this comment. I am definitely here for you wherever you move. Please remember us as great Backyard Designers no matter where u live 🤪. Have a great day.
www.backyardlivingguyde.com/3d-design-process here is my design process. I'll be there in 2 weeks. If we can get the design process started I would love to stop by and see the project in person. Let me know if that works? Thank you
Good day. I just came across your channel, and it is awesome and very informative. I just bought a house, and the backyard is a blank canvas. Roughly 20x60ft. I have many ideas but don't know what would be best, practical, and affordable. Your builds look amazing and I would appreciate some assistance/advice. My budget is in flux. Your builds also look super expensive. Is there a ballpark cost for a medium-sized outdoor space? am in Port Orchard, WA, just outside Seattle. Thank you, and have a nice day.
If you book a free zoom meeting I could take a look and let u know what the cost would be - 3d design www.backyardlivingguyde.com/3d-design-process. I am in Oregon so I have a clear understanding of the NW.
We have wasted so much money on bad backyard design. Three different landscapers so far in 14 years and I’m still not happy 😢 We are very limited living in the southwest with the summer heat 🔥We also have a good sized yard but a very small patio space which is unmovable do to a patio cover that is that is part of the house and HOA rules.
Yuck! Sorry - yes I have heard similar stories from people all over the Country- I think I am the best place to start to make sure u get it right the first time 🤗 - 3d design www.backyardlivingguyde.com/3d-design-process
I'm in Dunedin, FL and I'm struggling with a huge backyard (a lot and a half) and a small 1930's house and over-inflated housing values. How to build the oasis I want on a budget that, of course has all the elements I want, can possibly be built in phases to stay on budget, and then of course where to spend money and where to save -- what items should you invest in and what should you bargain shop or repurpose instead to keep costs low? Do you create the oasis and then the budget or state the budget and then build the oasis? The struggle is real (and yes, I've already wasted money last spring and it was great for a season but it's back to the drawing board. Ugh.
Great question - I have found that it’s best to create the dream master plan. I know this may seem counterintuitive, but it’s best to design the complete space with the dream vision - after u complete the dream master plan you will have a place to start to implement in phases. The nice thing is that when u have the master plan you can make material selection decisions that will keep the budget where needed but not ruin the integrity of the overall design. Schedule a free appointment with me and I’ll help out : 3d design www.backyardlivingguyde.com/3d-design-process
Help in Englewood (Denver-ish) CO! A big sloping suburban lawn, jonesing to become an entertainment mecca for all the friends I don't have. Yet. The dance floor, the Elvis impersonator, the Tupac wannabe, and the Marching Band. The winding path for the conga line, the fire pit down below, & the smokers and tokers nestled far from the madding crowd. The must have [portable/compostable?] toilets cleverly hidden close to the outdoor kitchen's DISHWASHER, while the automatic hands pop out of the tables smacking guys on the head, "Whatsamatta you?! Bus your dishes!" Then retract back into the table, invisible. A design along those lines, with a very modernist edgy look. Edgy marching bands. Really. I just need the right 3D design, because, If you build it, They will come.
I am planning a BACKYARD PARADISE, for my retirement....3 years left. 😒😏. I've been watching your videos for a couple months now. I live in Pace Florida. I do plan on making appointment for a Zoom meeting to plan my design, but I don't know of any good local contractors in my area. Could you or would you be able to possibly assist with this?
Yep - we can meet for free and if u decide to move forward with the 3D Design that is the only thing we would charge for. I can provide a set price once i see your property. Here is the link www.backyardlivingguyde.com/3d-design-process
You are in Beaverton? Wow! I am in Hillsboro and need help. Small backyard. Have a very nice flagstone patio and Gazebo to start, but everything else is wide-open for design options. Need it functional, budget-friendly, and far more private. Help?
I’m is Northridge California and I need to a low cost design for my backyard. The kitchen remodel was an expensive nightmare going over two years now. Backyard: Half for pets and children with artificial turf with perimeter smooth gravel so pets and children won’t hurt themselves if they run or all in that area. Other half for table and seating with an umbrella, non-fixed fireplace with movable seating. Two areas? There’s a slight slope since these homes were originally double terraced but have since broken down way before I moved here. Not sure it that’s even an issue other than it needs to be leveled for the hard areas. Maybe a pressure treated wood or interlock pavers with a cap that can double as seating and can help make that area level..? I will be adding raised garden beds probably in the gravel perimeter if that works. I don’t want raised garden beds to be too close to the fences…critters and neighbors are an issue. I’m thinking 5’ wide smooth gravel around the perimeter and maybe a dry riverbed to breakup the gravel look if I can afford it. Also some type of inexpensive paver or thick large outside tile product for the hard areas that will lead from the covered porch to the outside areas. Also a walkway from porch to the left and right of the porch that both lead to gated side yards and water water spickets. The BBQ will likely stay under the covered porch. I would like to make the existing porch concrete blend in with whatever materials are used…stamped concrete or maybe a stain..? One or two outside rugs..? It needs to be very low cost but I want it to function and the seating and fire pit to be movable. There’s already a covered porch with 1951 plain concrete that I want to blend in with whatever I add.Maybe some kind of concrete stamping or staining. My taste is no clutter and kinda modern that leans towards Zen or Asian but inviting. I don’t have a lot of people over at one time so it doesn’t need to be huge. Seating and pillows, the less the better, need to be removed and stored inside because I hate bugs and spiders but they seem to love to bite me all the time. Also, I am disabled and having a bumpy surface or a surface that has gaps is an invitation for me to go to the ER. Having typed all of this out it seems impossible. Since the kitchen nightmare has happened I feel defeated and depressed. I really don’t think I’ll ever have a home that is relaxing to me and inviting, clean and tidy. All I see is STRESS and that’s the one thing the doctors tell me I have to avoid or I will never stop getting worse. I wish all the doctors could live with ME/CFS/FMS and then tell me they wouldn’t keep looking for ANYTHING to make the pain go away or even lessen…or sleep for two nights in a row and for more than two hours when sleep does come. I suppose I’m desperate. Sorry for spilling all of that to you. I don’t have a family and after being sick for over 24 years friends are few and far between. The few good friends I have we’re smart but Southern California and I should’ve followed them when they did.💔
I'm interested in a complete yard design. Focus on the back yard first. But also front yard challenges with winding driveway and street level circular turn around circulat driveway. Lake Stevens WA (North of Seattle).
Hi Andy, I would really like to help you with your front and backyard. Here is a link to my design process www.backyardlivingguyde.com/3d-design-process looking forward to working with you
His Micah I’m a disabled veteran and I have a big backyard and have no clue how or what to do. I don’t have a lot of money but would definitely love your expertise. I’m located in Savannah Ga. I’ve been watching your videos and I am listening. PLEASE HELP!!!!
I would love you to design my backyard. I’ve already sent you a message but I didn’t tell you I’m from Wisconsin. The weather isn’t great right now, I snowing and cold. Hopefully in 3 to 4 weeks is warmer. Maybe not until may

Micah, I was about to hire a landscape architect but he doesn’t provide the 3D living experience. Ive been watching your youtube videos and have been taking lots of notes. I hired three other landscape designers and none worked to my satisfaction. Can you assist?
Hi Micah, I am going to need some help. I am almost done doing a complete remodel inside my house and I am getting ready to work on the outside. I currently have an above ground pool and it is on a corner lot. I removed lots of nasty trees and pretty much have a good blank slate to work with. Could you help me out? -Brad from Detroit metro area
I am sorry, but I don’t enjoy the negativity of your RU-vid post. I watch a lot of RU-vid videos to learn and enjoy my life. And while you are more than likely to have a lot more knowledge than me, I don’t want down on a subject within the first thirty seconds of a video. I don’t want to watch a video that immediately makes me feel bad.
I need help!!!!! I'm in Long Island NY. I have a backyard that needs everything. I have the space but I can't visualize where everything should go. HELP!!
I can help with the visualization for sure. It sounds like 3D Design would be best for you. Has anyone else attempted a Design? Looking forward to helping Tally....I promise I will make sure you we get it right so you dont have costly mistakes. Have a wonderful day
Hi Micah We have done everything ourselves in our yard ( me the landscape and he the hard structures) and my husband is pretty good with that. We live in Vancouver WA and is it possible to get some design insights from you that perhaps we ourselves can do? Hubby is quite a can do guy. Judy
Just bought a house in Columbia, SC. Small yard with lots of potential. Existing "patio" slab. Need help. Moved here for the climate and want to be out to enjoy it.
HI Trudy, congratulations on the new home. I want to Design your new Small Yard Backyard Living Space. I hope we can work together. Have an amazing weekend.
Hi Tami, I’d love to help. Yes, I can do the design and it will be easy to follow for DIY. I will also be in San Antonio this season and would be happy to stop by if u would like? Have a great day
Hey Micha, love all your videos, been watching for awhile. My wife and I live in Georgetown, TX (right outside of Austin) and are preparing to move to a brand new house (still in Georgetown) within the next couple months. I have been spending a lot of time thinking about how we want to design our backyard and layout it out for optimal hosting/parties but also to give us some privacy from the neighbors. I have a lot of thoughts/ideas but not really sure how to make it a reality, would love to connect and get some insight and potentially a 3D design. Thanks.
Hi Josh, first off thank you for watching our videos and supporting us....that means a lot. I would LOVE to help you with your new home. I would be happy to chat with you but I would for sure recommend us doing a 3D Design for you. Here are both links www.backyardlivingguyde.com/3d-design-process - www.backyardlivingguyde.com/coaching Please let me know which one sounds the best for you? Have a great day. Thank you again.
What's the (Total) cost to fly you out to Tampa, FL. to do a in person back yard design? I'm of the impression it's money well spent. But need that info first.
I need help, We are in Charleston South Carolina !! Can we do a one on one where I show you the pool , decking and covered structure, I think I am making the mistakes you are talking about and Want it to be done Amazing and what WE want for our outdoor oasis
Hi Lawrence, yes no problem…here is the link 1 on 1 with Micah (me) www.backyardlivingguyde.com/coaching. I will for sure get u back on track. Thanks for watching. I look forward to meeting you
We work remotely. I do fly over when I client really wants me to be there in person. It is NOT needed but some clients fly me over because that is what they want.
As a graphic artist, please stop using those sliding text blocks. You are impeding views of the designs and all that movement is so distracting. I can’t finish watching this video.
Interesting vid but way too fast for me to absorb what you’re trying to say. To much flipping, not enough before and afters, just couldn’t watch it. Sorry.
Hi!! I junt get a house and i want to do some things in my back yard wich has a pool and a small pregola aready how u can help me to add somethings and make it look beutiful? Thank you soo much man nice videos

Hi Regina, I would probably need to book a separate trip to NC. Happy to do that though. Looking forward to meeting u (I see your scheduled for the 23rd). Can't wait to help. Have an awesome day
You could have made a really positive, enlightening video offering great tips. I couldn't listen more than a few minutes to your know all, condescending attitude.
Lol. Well, thank u for trying as long as u did. Also I appreciate you taking the time to leave this helpful information. I truly wish you the best with your backyard space. Have a wonderful weekend
All that you do is for a very large place, and very rich people that can afford all the sounds and whistles that you offer. If someone have something very crowded, it is because it is a very small area.
I would love to help. Just book a Free appointment here and we can take a look at your property www.backyardlivingguyde.com/3d-design-process have a nice night
Please I need your help, I truly believe we can make something great. I’m from Utah. We have some great things to see in Utah! I’m sure you’ll have a good time.
Hi Hector, I will book a flight and help asap. I would ask that you are at least serious about a 3D Design and if that is the case I can help for sure. Let me know? I'm excited :)

Lol. Its a "M" for Micah. That's my name 🤣. Micah the Backyard Living Guy'd. We don't decorate our landscape with giant letters 😊. Its probably still a mistake and I appreciate your heads up 🤙
I am SO IN FOR THIS Jd Knight-Mark if your serious then i wanna visit. If possible let’s start with a remote design and let me visit as the build portion gets under way? 3d design www.backyardlivingguyde.com/3d-design-process
I am very intertested in you helping me plan my backyard. However my house is being built and won’t be finished until February next year. The house is in Liberty Hill, TX in a 55+ community. So everything will have to be approved. The lot is sloped too. I bought a larger lot. Also being in texas with bugs, I want to put up a Large Bird Cage with netting around it. Please contact me. Thanks
I would LOVE to help out. We are very familiar with Liberty Tx and confident we could help with HOA. I will need to be the one to act by scheduling an appointment at the bottom of this link - www.backyardlivingguyde.com/3d-design-process
