When someone starts to be unregulated emotionally, this shows up as getting really nice, charming, funny to try to diffuse the situation.
Sometimes, this can be traced back to our childhoods. When we had to manage unregulated adults-maybe parents or caregivers-we learned to tiptoe around their emotions to keep everything smooth. That survival skill was essential then, but as adults, it can leave us feeling drained and overlooked.
