Amen. A major pet peeve of mine. I mean, if God told someone something, you are put in a position of calling God a liar if you don't go along with their holy revekation.
Good word. Sometimes "God told me to" is used as a defense mechanism when you question what appears to be an unwise decision someone is making. It's a conversation ender. Instead of discussing the pros and cons of the decision, there is no debate when someone plays that card.
As a charismatic I can say I’ve seen Gods supernatural healings and have receive accurate Words, I will always be precautious on both fronts, people like Troy (throws out alot of words) and people like you (heretic hunter, denying the power thereof). Troys pure in heart, Gods looking at his heart.
100% i know a lot of people who claim to hear from God. Problem is that they have fundamental disagreements on basic things. So either God is confused and contradictory or people aren't being truthful.
Excellent presentation and topic. I think so many today are in need to hear this and this has to be taught by many charismatic churches. So many are out of control using this term.
You are exactly right!!! You have so much truth to speak. I wish you had much more exposure in the world of Christianity. You should be on radio, like Chuck Swindoll, John MacArthur, etc. Your messages would change people's lives.
Thanks for the kind words, Vince. God has called me teach and preach among prison inmates and persons involved in drug recovery. I wouldn't trade that for anything. Dane
This is the difference between the cessationist and continuationist position. Let me get this clear though. You are saying that "God told me" is used far too loosely and without justification. With that I can agree. But rather than say "don't use God told me" which actually denies people's faith and creates cessationism as they obviously believe that God did tell them. Instead what is needed is more emphasis on discernment and justification. "I know God told me because..." this is what is missing. We need clear answers to the issue of "how can I know and tell when it is God and when it is not?" We need to take Paul up on his teaching to discern such things 1 Thess 5:21. And we are just not testing prophecy or people are not testing their own discernment about what is God and what is just themselves or what is something else. We should be encouraging people to Listen to the Holy Spirit but also teaching them discernment. This has been largely lacking from the church so no wonder there isn't a good idea about this and people just claim "God told me" without justification, discernment or responsibility. This lack has allowed the Jim Jones' of this world to also say "God told me". That could have been avoided if the church was strong on teaching people "this is how you can tell if God has told you something or not". This is going to get worse unless the Church takes this responsibility seriously. We have a great need to sharpen our teaching on discernment as false prophets and false messiahs arise towards the end and try to lead people astray. Jesus is in fact calling his church to do this. It is part of the prophetic ministry God has laid on my heart and I know the hearts of others. It is just not correct to leave this to the cessationists who deny that God is alive and really speaks to people today. I encourage people to take a look at the videos on my channel concerning these things.
Great message. It is much safer to deliver the word you feel and follow up with, "But don't take my word for it, ask God and seek Biblical answers." If what you are saying is something God wants delivered, He can handle it. And never take credit for a legitimate message that you are passing on from God. After all--He was the originator of the message, not you or me. We are only the means of communication that God has chosen to use. Your messages and topics dovetail very well with what is going on in the church world today.
The God told me, God laid on my heart, I got a word.from the Lord, is to me most of the time spookism, mysticism, a person can not prove God spoke to them. So we are left to blindly believe them, didn't go to well for Jim Jones followers. Nor many others on a smaller scale. The sufficiency of our Father's word and Christ's death, burial and resurrection is not enough. J. Peters said this, if you want to hear God speak, read the Bible, you want to hear Him speak out loud, read the Bible out loud..I concur. Study the Bible think biblically our Father has written His laws in our heart and mind. The Bible is sufficient thru His Spirit for guidance, work, and how to live one's life, much of the God told me is based on New Age, one simply can not prove it, and when pressed it's a feeling, an inner peace, That's mysticism, yet it's the renewing of your mind that's the order of the hour. Remember back in the day when a man's word was his bond ? It was all about trust and integrity..how much more with our Father? Thanks brother.
That phrase drives me crazy! I would rather hear, "I FEEL like maybe God wants me to share this with you..." Otherwise, it comes across as arrogant, which cannot be from God.
The thing I don’t get about “faith healing” is that it kind of makes prayer quite hollow. Which is pleasing to God: To make a show out of prayer and healing so that others may see your deeds? Or simply ask quietly in your prayers “God, have mercy on this person.” and ask God for patience and endurance, that we may have faith in His will, whatever the outcome? Jesus performed irrefutable miracles in order to blatantly show that HE was one with the Father. We don’t have some giant burden placed on us to save the world and heal everything that is broken.
I would criticise your take on this because you seem to want people to not use "God told me" and I think this is dangerous and wrong. You raise "What if God did tell me?" and that is more important issue than you seem to raise. The answer is not "don't use this" but rather "only use this responsibly and when you are sure and when you can justify why you are sure". And on the other side "don't accept it unless it aligns with or confirms what you believe God has told you too" If both of these checks are in place I think there is less need to fear "God told me".
