Ceramic coatings are a big part of our industry, and one every detailer should be part of. Unfortunately many detailers try to sell coatings instead of offering them for the right reasons. #detailing #ceramiccoatings
I realized in a year of my business I’ve only done three ceramic coating jobs! I haven’t been talking to hardly any customers about it! I’m changing that now! Every customer will hear all about coatings from now on! Thank you so much!
Thanks for being real 🙏🏼 I’ve watched almost all of your videos because your intentions with this series are so awesome. There are so many of us who want to provide great service and have successful businesses but it can be very hard in the beginning and you are helping everything make more sense. Thanks Ivan
I always find valuable and sometimes unexpected insights in your comments, Yvan. I am just getting started in the detailing enterprise, and of all the guidance I have watched and listened to, yours is the most enduring. Thank you for saving me much time.
More sound advice. Thanks Yvan for sharing your insight and experience. I dropped a coating company because of the numerous reasons you mention in your video, and went with another that flows quickly step-by-step and is more supportive to me as a detailer. I have coatings installed on all of our vehicles to show customers. Three of which were involved in a garage fire at our house June 1. Despite the damage to our garage and home, I have a great selling point for coatings to tell customers when I point out the three that were in the garage fire and came clean. LOL.
Wow, what a common sense video! Thanks you, sir. I found this video while searching RU-vid for "Ceramic Coating." I'm 52, not a professional detailer, but recently bought a new car and decided to get serious about taking better care of it. I discovered quickly that I actually enjoy detailing. I began to do some research into ceramic coatings and saw so many videos about the necessity of "paint correction" first. I know nothing about that, and quite frankly it all was terribly confusing to me. So I gave up on the idea of a true coating and just applied a couple of coats of Turtle Wax Hybrid Solutions Ceramic Spray Coating. I'm just a month in, but so far so good. But, in the back of my mind I know it's not a "real" coating. It's good to know that the whole "paint correction" thing can be overemphasized a bit by some, especially on a brand new vehicle. I might get a traditional ceramic coating yet! Thank you for bringing some clarity to an otherwise murky subject for people like me who are on the outside looking in!
Awesome video as usual. We’ve gone that route a few years back and it works flawlessly. It’s at a point where people know they’ll get the best performance coating from our shop.
Not to keep blowing the horn but honestly this is the most informative video on coatings which contains content truly useful to turn into bigger profits and customer satisfaction. The reason I appreciate this content the most is because I myself and thousands of people as well were mislead by the overhyped marketing claims many coatings claim and other youtube channels talk about when it comes to coatings. Until I personally installed one on my own vehicle as well as other coatings on recurring clients I was able to realize the reality of coatings and more properly guide clients concerning coatings. This helped me to protect my business and myself by not promising things that are not necessarily true and underdelivering which could create a really bad client experience. I am starting to narrow down to 2 coatings after trying 5 different ones and am excited to create new content with more accurate information each time as we grow in knowledge and experience. Though few are the words, we really appreciate this content, thank you Yvan! These concepts should become more standard in the industry.
Excellent information. I agree on all counts. We usually think only like detailers vs thinking of what our customers want. They want quick, simple and value for their money.
GREAT video! You highlight a great point for advertisement that most detailers say they don’t have time for. Your vehicle should advertise what your selling. People sample products all the time before committing to it. Reminds me of our current water system when the sales rep brought in his portable filtration system and showed us the difference between clean water and unfiltered city water. I didn’t hesitate to spend the money after that.
United Distributors Incorporated. Company out of Jacksonville, FL. I’ve since moved recently and I’ll be investing in a portable one soon for when I detail. I was looking at the CR Spotless brand.
Awesome advice thank u Yvan. I like your no nonsense...Common sense Approach. It gave me Alot to think about....and it gave me ease to hear certain things. For example there's NO need to apply a 2nd coating with the same product. Thanks again! 👍🏽
Good stuff Yvan..im no longer running a business but i totally agree with you on this. My toyota 86 is completely coated. All the windows, the trim, paint and the wheels. Its worth it. Wax - ester based or carnauba. Wont last that long. Sealants - silica or polymer can last up to a year. Have had my Ford for seventeen years and everything on that is coated. Ive always had the mindset of only doing detailing that lasts and my work did and they came back more and they trusted me because I was fair and honest. I dont like two or multiple layer coatings. The driving force with customers is convenience and they love same day drop off and pick up. The one issue with coatings is the water spotting possibly due to use of resins or cheaper resins. My chemistry teachers coating based on the one they made for NASA does not water spot. Today i coat three to ten cars a day for a massive organisation that makes their own coating.
As a hobby detailer, It never bugged me to spend the extra time it takes to apply two or three coats. As I'm thinking about starting a business, I really need to think about that. Thanks for the insight.
100% agree!! My truck is my traveling billboard for coatings. The best thing I did was install a good coating because it showcases what the benefits are.
Love this Yvan! I have had exactly one customer ask me what coating I was going to apply to his vehicle. Everyone else just says, 'I want what you put on his/your/her vehicle!'
100% agree on not having a need to try and sell the BRAND of coating. I rarely ever mention it and customers hardly ever ask. They don't know about them nor do they often care. Nearly everyone simply says they trust in my work and offerings.
Thanks Yvan for the insight into how to offer coatings. Good timing also since did a newly released coating on the wife’s car and was a 2-coat with one hour between coats. It had a simple coating for the past year and it is our test car for new product. I am starting my detailing business and really cannot suggest a 5-year coating for some of the points you covered. For the value to a business and the customer what price range would you see for the 1-2 year and 3+ year coating packages. Forget warranty’s, they seem to create more confusion to both the business and customer. Thanks for the time to chat
@@Detailers-Business-Academy Thanks, that is within a reasonable starting point given the time and materials used to prepare and coat the car. And I heard a statistic on RU-vid that is very realistic, most US-owners of cars keep them from 30-months to 48-months. So the 3-year life is realistic for protecting the car during their ownership.
I absolutely agree with you that a person who bought a Civic is more interested in keeping his car looking new and shiny for as long as possible. But it's so confusing which brand of coating to apply.
@@tugbankert6581 it's a good thing to hear what people have to say. There are a lot of people with experience and knowledge out there. Hear out what they have to say. It saves a lot of time.
The biggest problem I have with coatings in general is the vague language of the warranty. It covers basically nothing and puts all of the warranty claims and repairs on the detailers. The companies pretty much absolve themselves from any liability for failure of any type, matter the age of the product. Add to that the nearly impossible to meet requirements of the customer to properly maintain the coating as set forth by the mfr. Ask any coating installer about the warranty of any coating and they all will tell you they're a joke.
I find that having the customer come back for annual maintenance on their coating is an effective way to build repeat business. It a great opportunity to build a connection with the customer and turn them into a loyal client. If I told my coating customers to come back when they want to I may never see them again.
Another great, informative video. You’ve hit the nail on the head with numerous points you’ve mentioned there and when you step back I think it makes perfect sense. We’ve been guilty of falling into a few traps, we’ve since changed our mindset and look to service the customers needs instead of trying to impress other detailers. Picked up some good knowledge from your videos, keep up the good work👍
All three of my vehicles are coated.. When I go to evaluate a car, I bring a bottle of water with me. I mention what my services are.. when they ask what a coating does, I explain what it does ( I am going to start using the "it gives you time to do other things you love line") and then pour the water over the car. I've sold a few of them that way!
Again and again Yvan, you just suprise myself with your tips, loved that and you know what ? I try to apply some of them in my principal job even if I’m in the after-selling/service industries for more than 30 years now, there is always place to be better and thanks for that Yvan. Je sais que tu te promène à travers le pays mais j’adorerais te rencontrer ne serais-ce que quelques minutes pour te dire bonjour ou pour un crash cours 😁 ..bref merci pour ces vidéos, très apprécié et informatifs.
I always tell people you don’t want it perfect because you are taking life and yrs off the paint doing it. I do mostly enhancements and 1 steps and the average person loves that. They see a huge difference. I need to find a coating I can do outside. Mobile and I have no garage.
Gyeon has a mobile coating. Q2 flash is the name. Also check into IGL stuff and then dr Beasley ls nano. Or there is ammo nyc I think may be. SystemX may or may not (they are not a big industry name yet easy to get ahold of) Some choices to start.
There are quite a few that are applied by mobile detailers with succes. Ideally it should be one layer, and not require more than 1 hour of curing before being exposed to the elements.
This is exactly why Angelwax coatings are my absolute go to. Single layer, 1 step correction and back to the customer the same day. Being mobile it’s essential! Great video brother!
@@Detailers-Business-Academy generally speaking & calling on your past experience, can someone expect a couple of years durability from Glosscoat? One of the only hang ups I have with it so far is ensuring even coverage because of flashes so fast. Hard to see if you applied enough- evenly
Hello Mr.Lacroix, i love coatings and i know they need Good Maintenance to perform. For instance: Does the vehicle need to washed every week ? I did not wash my own (black) car for 4 weeks, as result, All the bugs where edged into the paint. I knew this was going to happen, but, i also know, that customers can neglect there car for a longer period of time. Is really the only option, to prevent bug or bird edging, to wash the car every week? I know its different in summer because of the heat. Thanks
You may want to consider a different coating if it gets etched by insects. I have had many customers over the years that simply don’t feel the need to wash their cars after getting a coating, and the vehicles still look good.
At this point am not sure what coatings offer other than some additional gloss and chemical resistance. They don't appear to offer any mechanical benefits (resistance from mild scratching (tunnel car washes void all their warranties).
Nice Perspective and advice Ivan! WRT maintenance though, coatings emphasize "beading"; showy but apparently prone to water spotting for which some coating makers sell "maintenance products" to combat! I've yet to see a coating emphasizing "shedding" (sheets/drags dust, etc right off the car).
Great video, but I have to disagree with one point....not pointing out all the defects, and here's why. Your customer brings you their car to have a coating installed. They probably never really taken a good look at the condition of the paint on their vehicle and expect that when they come to pick it up there aren't going to be any iss now when they come to pick up their freshly coated car they're going to be looking over it and admiring it and boom they see a defect that quote wasn't there before but actually was but they never saw it now that defect gets blamed on you.ues because they haven't seen any issues before. So for that reason I think making your customer aware of defects on their vehicle and then giving them the realistic expectations of what it is they're paying for and what they will see when they pick up their car could eliminate that possible difficulty down the road
One way to counteract this is with inspection sheets and with a system. I use Urable and what I do is I take pictures of damage I see and of my inspection forms before I start the job. The inspections are time stamped along with the start time of the job. So it can be seen that the damage was there before I started. But rarely will this happen in my opinion as if the customer doesn’t see the damage before you do the job they won’t see it after either.
I let doubters touch their cars with the back of their hand and then do same to my coated vehicle. They all have the same reaction. Wow. Yours feels so much better. They research and some have invested but the majority declined. My insurance adjuster got his coated after seeing my vehicle.
I put a coating on my car but I think I screwed it up. A week later I sprayed a pre-wash on the car, and when I went to contact wash the dirt was gone.
I am also interested in hearing what mobile detailers are using. Read another dude in this comment reel loving Angelwax one-and-done 1 year protection 😊
Hi Yvan I was wondering about ceramic coatings I can't wait 24hrs to not drive my car,and I was wondering if you had any recommendations on spray on ones that would work any info would be appreciated
@@Detailers-Business-Academy I am just a car enthusiast I take care of my own car but was looking at do friends and family this year I live in southern Ont. and I was just watching a video about the last coat black ice I think it's called but I was looking for just a recreational guy like myself any info would be appreciated thanks
Hi Yvan, i share the same opinion ! However i don't get any deeper information we get from Ceramics companies (Organic or Anorganic ? What does it means) Thank you :)
this commennt isnt about this video but the one on paint enhancement/correctiing. could you do a video that talks about when you should polish the car and when you probably shouldn't?
@@Detailers-Business-Academy your videos are so helpful. i just did a detail on my car and read all the forums about getting rid of swirls, and I am glad i didnt go crazy with that notion before i put my coating on as I would have damaged the paint most likely, but your video got me wondering, when should i polish the car? i had planned on doing it all over again next spring but now im not so sure i should do that again so soon.
The key is to set those expectations up front. Actually, let them tell you what they see and want "fixed" or corrected and for it to look like down the road. You can lead them down the path to talking about swirls, etc but listen to what they want and explain the differences in pricing from where they are today to where they can be down the road through your various levels of service offerings.
can you please suggest best and cheap coating brands best for developing countries where detailing culture is just starting and doesnt need IR treatment?
I know your DIY detail 3 your coating has graphene but the 5 and 8 year coatings do not. Graphene seems to making its way into every detailing product. But my question is how to clarify it without being super technical. What does graphene? And what does it do in the coating as opposed to a coating without graphene. What does the graphene do in a graphene car wash? And what does the graphene do in a graphene detail spray?
Other than gyeon and carpro who offer 2 years protection with 1hour cure time, i cant find ceramique coating with longer protection who doesnt need like 24-48h cure time. Can you help me ?
I always fall back on K.I.S.S (keep it simple stupid) when my inner egotistical detailer tries to run rampant in my head. My happiest customers are the ones I keep it simple, not chasing any scratches and deeper defects. What is your thought on installing only one coating no matter the selected longevity because it is effective up to 6 years and cost effective enough that the cost of install is the same as carrying a second coating?
I'm going to have to strongly disagree with this. Why the hell would the customer not want to know what kind of coating is on their car? So that they strip it off the next time they go to a car wash by not knowing how to take proper care of it?
your missing a point about point about coating vs wax. with wax you get warmth and depth. coatings to me, coatings look bright, color of the vehicle looks over saturated in your face. kinda like plasma tv vs LCD
