I hope you know my feelings on vitamin supplements after watching many of my videos. I do NOT think they are needed and that many people who are marketing them are preying on your insecurities. I wanted to arm you with some knowledge with this weeks Wednesday checkup video on the supplement industry.

There are studies that have used multivitamins (a LOT, and every single micronutrient) in the treatment of ADHD, Bi-Polar, and Depression. I love how you simplified this topic for your audience PERFECTLY! As a Dietitian Nutritionist, I definitely see people (most notably influencers) treating supplements as if they’re magic cures, or that they’re 100% legit even if it’s a brand new company with zero creditability and transparency. There’s definitely risks with taking supps - like quality, purity, and does-it-contain-what-it-says in the quantity that it says. My rule of thumb - only supplement when there’s a true need. And find a GMP certified brand that’s ultra transparent about their ingredients!

These supplement companies prey on people's ignorance. People get drawn to supplements because they think 'natural' means 'safer,' which it doesn't. I've had so many UTI's and been to many doctors and none of them recommended it to me, and then I saw people talking about it in forums. Haven't had a UTI since taking it. It's not FDA approved, and not recommended by doctors, so what? It changed my life 😉

Rada Surmach while that’s wonderful that you’ve found a solution to something ailing you that doctors struggled to, this wont be the case in most other situations. the whole point of the video, as i’m sure you know, is that people are being misled into buying vitamins that may not even contain the things that the bottles say they do. in the end though if you feel better on a certain vitamin supplement than you do without it, and feel the investment is worthwhile, more power to you.
@zhevtone
@zhevtone 5 лет назад
@@249aaa I agree. But I am afraid this video could also prevent people from taking vitamins or supplements when they actually need to. Most of the supplements sold from major brands actually contain the ingredients listed and are legitimate, so let's not draw big conclusions from small incidents of some ripoff companies.

I can agree multi vitamins can most likely not help. But I disagree with certain things your saying. I know there's beef between functional medicine and conventional medicine but It's crazy how you think most people get all the vitamins that is required to not have a deficiency and in AMERICA of all places. Vitamin D and zinc and potassium are one of the most deficient vitamins out there. And just because you can get these vitamins from foods doesn't necessarily mean it's process in your body correctly aswell and or it's from a good source. I guarantee you almost everyone in this country has or will have a bad gut issue that has been proven to give vitamin deficiencies that leads to emotional and mental disorders just to name a few examples. So yes it is necessary to use supplements specially if you don't consume what your suppose to eat. Conventional medicine bloodwork doesn't fully show all vitamin deficiencies btw... essentially you won't really need to take vitamins if you know what you're consuming but odds are people can't afford quality foods or don't simply know how to nourish themselves properly.

I was found I was deficit in vitamin D3 12 years ago. That's when I found out about it.l, but probably I was deficit for decades before. My GP prescribed 2,000IU/day, which was the recommended dose, especially if you have rising PSA, Which I did (4+). Yet after a year be vitamin D3 level was still deficit so I told him I was now take 6,000IU/day and he agreed. I changed providers and no one mentioned for the next 10 years that I was STILL deficient in vitamin D3. After being diagnosed with prostate cancer and learning to incredible power of vitamin D3 to reduce cancer tumors,I decided I needed to MEGADOSE to get my vitamin D3 levels UP! A German doctor with 20 experience said he gives his D3 deficit patients injections from 300,000IU TO 500,000IU to bring their vitamin D3 levels to normal, which he defined as 100 ng/mL and above. So I took 100,000IU/day (which is only 2.5mg!) for two weeks, then had my blood drawn. FINALLY my vitamin D3 level was 125 ng/mL. Over there next 6 months I took 50,000IU/day, then had an MRI. RESULT: One of my tumors had SHRUNK to just 6mm, which the radiologist described as an "unremarkable lesion," and the other tumor was GONE! I'm scheduled for another MRI soon (the local MRI machine can't do prostate exams. It has a broken part?). If anyone comments here, RU-vid will notify me and I'll come back and share the results. In the meantime, you're likely deficit in vitamin D3. Nearly everyone in the northern hemisphere is! Take 10,000OIU/day or more. That's barely enough.

It doesn't matter what your fat level is. 90% of the benefit from D3 is when it's circulating. Which it only does for a few hours. After taking 6,000iu: day for 12 years, my serum level was just 30ng/mL! You need at least 100ng/mL to fight cancer.

FYI, most probiotics that aren't refidgerated are garbage. Studies have shown that most all room temp probiotics have less than 10% of the CFU they say they originally have.

My doctor has me taking probiotics because of some health issues :) so far I feel great with the ones I'm taking. Fish oil is also amazing for the joints and heart!!!
@romicor9
@romicor9 5 лет назад
Kind of the same: if the doctor prescribed them, they may help. If you take them on your own, probably you don't need them. Calcium can actually hurt you (my aunt had spasms in her hands and nervousness) so your doctor needs to prescribe the exact dose, which can or cannot be the one in the label.

I used to log my food for nutrients for a while and i was really surprised how little it takes to get those vitamins up. With a balanced, healthy diet i managed to cover all my vitamins over 100% pretty easily. Turns out there was zero need to take any supplements. I invest that money into better quality food now. I'm pretty sure that does more for me (and the environment).

"I invest that money into better quality food now." A 365-day supply of multivitamin+minerals with everything including the kitchen sink in it is like 20€. I'd like to know what sort of higher quality food you can now afford with your extra 0.055€/day that you couldn't before, lmao

86% has been taking a vitamin supplement, while only 24% had a deficiency. Doesn't that just tell you the vitamin has solved the deficiency? How do you know the other 62% wasn't deficient before they started taking supplement?

You should review Tati Westbrook's vitamins. The name is Halo Beauty and there was a controversy when she first launched then because of some ingredients. Her subscribers thought she was going to launch make up or skin care so when she presented vitamins people went crazy.
@ItsAsparageese
@ItsAsparageese 5 лет назад
(Nothing in this response is intended as a retort to you, since you didn't state a case either way about her product. I'm just replying about the general topic and speaking to general trends.) Tati's formulation for Halo Beauty is actually really well thought-out and fairly in line with research on the various components (JenLuvsReviews did, as usual, an incredible breakdown analysis of it). A lot of people want to dismiss literally anything in a pill form as being pointless cash-grab fluff, but that's as irrational as making generalizations about All Pharmaceutical Drugs or about All Surgical Remedies or whatever other toolboxes are available for issues. A big problem is that a lot of people think "supplements" and "vitamins" mean the same thing, but they definitely don't. There are lots of other compounds that *aren't* vitamins that people supplement for useful effect, and there are certain vitamins that do have useful properties when taken in greater than necessary dietary amounts, and there's nothing wrong with that, but so many people are quick to dismiss that possibility and they end up making ignorant criticisms because of it. Inositol is a B-vitamin sugar but megadoses of it are downright miraculous for many people with autism/OCD/similar cognitive problems, for instance. Alpha lipoic acid is the only thing keeping my nervous system from feeling on fire all the time. These are just a couple of examples, but the point is that I think most people really don't give supplementation an objective and even-handed look, they just want a quick generalized answer for whether it's dumb or not, and nothing in healthcare/biology is that simple.
