Are Wings the Best Movement Accessories? Probably but Regardless We go over MANY Different Ways you can Play terraria without the Use of Wings. the Most Underrated, needed Strategies. ABUSE IT. #terraria JOIN THE DISCORD: / discord
aside from movement, the advantage of using wings is the automatic lack of fall damage. i think the fact they allow you to fight a lot more carelessly is a huge part of it
@@gdmalin7128 Yeah, but its sacrificing a bunch of equipment slots you could use on something like the Shark Tooth Necklace or Ankh shield for a bunch of jump boost items and a horseshoe.
Its an ancient strategy, been in the game for a long time. We used to do that back in the days when all you had was eye of cthulu and eater of worlds. those were at one point the "final bosses"
9:41 Water arena can be good because it’s slows projectiles, and you can combine this with water bolts from dungeon if you’re mage, and you melee its even better, bc you don’t have any projectiles, but air is a problem 10:29 For vertical water arena, you can use trident to go down deep in water faster
I like the idea of the video but I feel like any strategy to replace wings can't use more than 1 accessory, otherwise I'd rather just use wings. I think mount-related strats are a good way to combat the overuse of wings. Gelatinous pillow and the cute fishron mounts come to mind as excellent mounts that can be used instead of wings.
Frog Legs can be combined with the Tiger Climbing Gear and Flippers to make the Frog Gear with all their effects in one. That's what he was talking about.
Have you considered how Featherfall makes almost all of these infinitely better? Bundle of Balloons goes to space? Throw in Featherfall and you bonk the top of the world. Water climbing with flippers too hard to aim? Just fall slower so the timing and spacing are easier. Slime mount? Sky high in an instant. Fall damage? 0. If you're doing a water tube, just go with inner tube, it pushes your speed up much faster than flipper does. Either way, though, that is a hardmode arena due to the bubbles... Teleporters can also be activated with smart cursor and switches to remove the need for moving, and you can use either angled platforms or blood rain bow/daedalus stormbow to box yourself in without restricting your damage.
Bundle of Balloons + either slime mount is superior to wings for two reasons: a) immediate vertical movement (a jump will immediately send you flying, as opposed to needing to accelerate) and b) faster downardwards acceleration (being able to plummet is surprisingly helpful)
Dude, the second you can mine hellstone, lavaproof bugnet into a obsidian crate... Superheated blood. This is Shrimpy truffles nephew... pop him in a ocean and you running circles around bosses.
the 'jump down a hole and hit the boss thats chasing you' is how i beat master mode moonlord on the zenith seed. its a fun way to fight. but a little impractical since most bosses despawn when you abandon them. to get back up just have your bed next to the hole and mirror up.
If you use a trident (the ones you can literally find in chest off the start of the game) you can move so fast and clean in water. For your water arena, you can combine the trident whenever you maneuvering the boss, then switch to your weapon to attack while your safe for a while. Unique: I say 10/10. Practicality: like a 4 😅, but you should still check it out.
Bundle of horseshoe balloon + amphibian boots + wolfpet mount has so far carried me to post mechs in my switch summoner run. Actually insane combo low key Update: now I'm using the combo on my melee playthrough since I finished my summoner one, and both playthroughs it's carried me to post plant. I legit went out of my way to get it in my melee run even though I had frozen wings which do fly higher, but fighting as a wolf is funny
And the best & most obvious replacement for wings? - mounts Dont waste half of accessory slots on mobility and get better mount. Golf Cart > Flying slime > Ufo car/fishroon
If the point of this video is showing other alternatives to wings, then I can only say that the bundle of baloons are the only ones that can work. Most of the other strats need either too much setup or more accesory slots to barely substitute the effect of wings. The terraspark boots are an item that I always use in my playthroughts because of their usefulness in many ways, however, they can't replace wings. On the other hand, you can replace these boots with asphalt platforms whenever you get to that stage, and then you move even faster than with terraspark boots alone. The flying carpet is quite useful whenever you are planning on beating early game bosses, but it's value goes down really badly whenever compared to other items. I only use it if I don't have either wings or a bundle of balloons. The other strats, although creative, need too much attention to even work and they can still mess up. So overall, wings are still the best in most scenarios.
Definitely the issue with strata that either try to bypass need for wings, or trade them for another advantage Like, yeah, items that allow you to dodge an attack or deal more damage can be great, but when they're trying to compete with sheer general maneuverability utility wings provide, it feels hard to justify many other items, especially when some allow you to sacrifice vertical movement in exchange for faster horizontal flight with the measly requirement of holding down There's a reason some of the most compelling alternatives completely bypass the need if accessory slot, instead being part of the dedicated mount equipment slot
8:44 You didn't take into account the fact that balloon movement is inherently less precise than wings, which makes it less practical to use weapons like whips & close-range Melee weapons as well as doing other things like dodging in-between Spazmatism cursed flame projectiles.
Honestly, playing through close range melee on Legendary difficulty, the triple horseshoe balloon is way better than wings rn. Wings's acceleration time is so slow while each double jump is instant upwards movement. Not to mention you can use the 3 extra jumps on the Basilisk mount and Mourning Wood Tree mount.
I do wish the lucky horseshoe had more crafting recipies. The only other accesorry that negates fall damage are wings, and I hate seeing those dumb balloons with horseshoe on my caracter...
you can turn off the visibility of individual accessories edit: I should note im talking about on PC, if you play on mobile I have no clue whether or not you can.
Lilith's necklace with bundle of horseshoe balloons is my favorite movement combo pre-HM dungeon if you don't want wings. The back and forth you can do with the balloons has helped me so much in fights like Duke Fishron or Skeletron
Balloon bundle + unicorn mount (or any other good mount) is a really good Combination and it even offers you extra slot for accessories since you can just say goodbye to any boot 👍
One combo I really like once I enter hardmode is the bundle of horseshoe balloons and liliths necklace (and optional terraspark). It's just soooooooo fast that if I end up getting it, I can't bring myself to switch to wings until I get the soaring insignia because otherwise I feel like a snail using them. And even then the switch is still hard because I'd have to use two accessory slots instead of just one and by that time I'd likely have the witch's broom, which makes me a touhou character and that full directional gravity defying freedom alongside not using any accesory slots is too hard to give up.
One thing I hate about flying mounts is how slippery they are to control, I prefer the handle of wings than flying mounts, even at the cost of two accessory slots
I haven't even watched the video yet but that intro segment makes me know im gonna like the rest of it, movement is one of my favorite parts of this game it's so slept on
the substitutes to wings i use are gelatinous pillion + bundle of horseshoe ballons, a high speed mount + bundle of horseshoe ballons + a super long flat bridge, and an infinite flight mount
Try the frog accessories and balloons with featherfall and slime mount. Insane jump height which can linger, but u can still drop like a brick on demand
"Umm, actually bricks fall at the same speed as a human, a golf ball and a car, so the correct way to say what you were trying to say, is 'you can still drop really fast on demand'." 🤓 Look I used 🤓 I'm extremely funny, now laugh.
took forever to build, but the best hardmode arena I ever made was this column of water from the ground to just below space. Pairs fantastically with the celestial shell and cute fishron for more of a melee tank build
As a balloons user the instant upwards momentum you gain from the jumps really helps with dodging, in my playthroughs I find them useful enough to keep them even with the Flying Insignia, and I replace Terraspark Boots instead once I get that
In my opinion just bundle of horseshoe balloons with a featherfall potion and the slime mount is better than any wings because you have insane vertical mobility, you can go from hell to space in a medium size world in around 10 seconds, and even without the slime mount featherfall potions make bundle of horseshoe balloons better than wings, also just so people know when using a featherfall potion if you hold up, your upwards momentum gets stronger and you fall extra slowly, if you are in neutral you still go higher than normal and fall slowly, and if you hold down you have normal speed from gravity but still won't take fall damadge
@@shokumiyazaki4931 it took me a while to find that out as well but when combines with the slime mount and bundle if balloons you have more controll than with wings
I've tried featherfall potions and if you can control them with up/down they seem absolutely clutch, but I'm bad and can't :p also you don't need a horseshoe on the bundle, king slime mount reduces all fall damage to 1 and queen slime mount negates fall damage
@@Zeldrake while I admit horseshoe balloons aren't entirly ncasary they do help if your featherfall runs out midair, but also where did you get the information that slimy saddle reduces fall damadge because just tested it and it dosent reduce it at all
Dude try the heart thingy from the crimson and the sand storm in a bottle and the snow in the bottle it's like wings but combine it with the soaring insignia its very comparable with wings. its op at pre hard mode as long as you have the buff after getting hit your gonna move at 60+ mph. Even more better with soaring insignia.
I’m currently just using Terraspark boots and a full upgraded ballon instead of wings. Also the gravity potion helped sooo much on Master Mode mech bosses.
i remember pre-nerf i used queen slime mount with bundle of balloons and it was so fantastic and ive heard great things about frog leg related accessories!
I remember once, years ago while I was on a plane, I was playing terraria on my phone and the Twins spawned just a few nights into hardmode. I didn’t have wings, just a bow and a dream. I came out on top
for the pillar pit strat, I definatly think you should be using the slime mount for that, since it both ascends and descends quickly, then just use the hook to instantly dismount and grab onto a wall before working your way back over the boss to jump spam again , mainly useful against cthulu's eye since it will just sit there and take it as it creeps towards you as you dish out some dps
for me the most optimal is no baloons, no wings and no flight accessories (except spectre boots but only because they're just better hermes). this frees accesory slots for combat accesories instead. you can easily get slimy saddle and use it for the entirety of pre hm, and once you hit hm you can get gelatinous pillion, use it for the mech bosses, plantera and golem, defeat duke fishron to get shrimpy truffle and roll with it for the remaining bits of HM. wait for it to rain to fight moon lord, or make water pockets with bubble blocks. if you're not in expert and above you can instead do martian madness post golem and use cosmic car key. i think mounts, while sometimes less versatile, can really help you out by freeing accesory slots for something potentially more useful. at most you're gonna have one accesory slot used up with the hermes boots and its upgrades.
Reminds me of my first master mode play through, once I got the santa tank I just stacked jump accessories and stayed in the tank for the rest of the game lol
makes me feel like titanfall 2's Viper bossfight when i'm just using daybreak against moonlord legit made me say "Viper's got you in the pipe, 5-by-5." mid-fight
One fun thing to do with a giant water arena tank is the lava shark mount, because its. a shark. it swims, Fast Make a giant tank in the ocean, use the shark to beat fishron for the fishron mount, and then you have an even better aquatic mount for your arena
My starter strat personally is to make railways to fight certain bosses, both in the sky and in Underworld. However the rest is just classic platforms. Began another playthrough recently with my friend to catch up with the skipped content in the last year and there's genuinely a lot of stuff has been added, a lot of stuff can now be combined.
the bucket strat is easier with the slime mount, you can just place it under you and you’ll float to the top and get to do the slime jump over and over from what i remember.
I've used the "oceanic arena" option pre hard mode and even in hard mode it absolutely obliterates any boss but needs quite the "setup", which is just 2 things, the lava shark mount, and later on in hard mode, the Neptune's shell, that's all of it it makes you move faster than any other boss in most cases, easily outspeeds duke fishron the only "let-downs" are that underwater seeing projectiles are hard so you need a way to satisfy the demand for light sources, and the fact that campfires don't work under water and therefore need an air room inside the arena in specific places, and lastly that you shouldn't use ANY platforms in the arena, that's pretty much it it is however ridiculously op, since the interaction of mobs and bosses with water are for 99.9% of the time ultra limited, like for example king slime float on water, so does any other slime, the usual mobs fall down in water and most of them can't even swim, many bosses just phase through it but their projectiles get somehow affected in some of them, and many more the realm of water is not so delved on in terraria, but the terrarian has enough kit to use it to its own advantage
Okay, but Betsy's wings + Soaring insignia is still second only to godmode + rod of discord as the best pre-moon lord mobility in the game as far as I'm concerned.
The slime mount arena works a lot better with rope, not only can you ascend much much faster by using the quick mount button really fast, you also can avoid fall damage, and bounce off bosses continuously, you just got to get good at using the quick mount button. With this arena I would recommend a lucky horseshoe or better yet any slow fall accessory(because you'll be able to control your fall speed while mounted.), just be careful when you get to the top of the world and try to stop constantly bouncing on the bosses 'cause any flying boss will ignore the world border and fly straight through you.
I think the big pit at the end would be more useful with a featherfall potion, so that you can change your fall speed based on how close the boss is to you.
Some things you should know 1) There's a bottomless water bucket for a reason (You get it from fishing quests) 2) The "inner tube" makes you travel insanely fast upwards through water 3) Most of these won't work in Expert or Master mode 4) Water slows you and your projectiles down 5) Solid walls stop most projectiles I know this video is probably a joke but I'd like to see this alternative strats properly explored
Slopes+Actuator+Hermes+HorseshoeCloudInABottle=HorizontalSpeedArena. You can change out actuators with platform sections to allow easier change between slopes. HorseMount+BlizzardBottle+Platform beats SlimeArena. Everyone knows the bundle of balloons is good, its just impractical to get most the time. Often you can get 1-2 balloons, cloud in a bottle and blizzard in a bottle. Its the 3rd balloon and sandstorm in a bottle that is often painful to get. Drilling a huge hole into the ground is actually a strat some speedrunners use to kill plantera. Either use gravitation potion or well timed grapples and it works really well.
