The easy money has been made. MTG is mainstream enough that buying bulk collections are generally picked-through by the original owner, or the good cards are slowly filtered out by each hand that touches the collection. Even Salvation Army picks the collections before selling. Quality “good buy” collections are so rare that the losses absorbed from the worthless bundles purchased negate the gains from the big score.

I still hold on to the timmy dream of finding some alpha or beta at a yard sale. Best I've done is find a 99% complete copy of Hero quest for $1.

i found a deal like that several years ago. ranging from revised to tempest 10$ and the big hits were LED, wheel of fortune, quite a few lower value reserved list, like 10 fastbonds, 3 vampiric tutors, 5 mysti tutor, 3 enlightned tutor, 4 worldly tutor. probably more i cant list. i still have the whole collection. 2,000 plus cards and out that only like 40 money cards. rest was bulk. put it in perspective how few hits even a big collection often has. sad that there were no dual lands tho

There was a period of time on eBay (mainly between 2009-2014), alot of brick and mortar comic stores liquidated their backroom inventories. I scored maybe 3 or 4 GOOD hauls of Magic, Star Wars CCG, and every mix and match CCG they had collecting dust. It was like Christmas, much like watching Rudy's channel. Good times

Random story; my dad literally worked for the printing press company in the early 90's that had the contract to print Magic the gathering. HPS printing in conjunction with Fujifilm maybe?? I was 9 or 10 years old at the time. I remember he had uncut sheets, test prints, etc. I did not know what I was seeing at the time...did not start playing until years later, around Urza block. It was a big deal for their company to get that contract as I remember. Hindsight is such a funny thing. Just thought I'd share that story!

Original owner came on desperate times, picked through his old collection for the good stuff and sold it to bail himself out, and it wasn't enough to keep him out of bankruptcy. Or a wizard did it.

You can almost match the missing cards from the color coordinated sleeves to the “money” binder. They definitely went through the collection and put together the denim value binder

Well, trade binders that were actually used and traded also looked like this sometimes. People trades some stuff from a page, that left empty spots. Then you traded in some stuff and quickly put it on a new page or somewhere else.

LOL "These things are rough, we'll get this thing moved for you" spoken like a true screw salesman! If you want to move it quickly and for a fraction of the price, sell it to a store/Rudy. Otherwise try to sell it to people and get your best value.

I agree rudy. Someone sorted that before you got it. The best stuff was probably taken. Noticed rainbow vale in the money binder then later the rest of the fallen empire lands grouped together missing the vale. That card has only recently spiked

I picked up 2 binders yesterday, one pokemon and one magic, for $50. The pokemon one had base set and jungle cards worth around $140 and the magic one was all Scars of Mirrodin and it added up to almost $50 so I did pretty good and got some old cards that I used to have from my childhood.

I bought a collection of older cards not too long ago. It had been picked through years ago to. Had some bad shape cards but most are pretty good shape. Had some pretty cool valuable foreign cards that you could tell they couldn't find a price for.

Some revised and maybe unlimited cards though at best. Saw an Unholy Strength with the pentagram in the background. Thats always gonna be collectible.

I like having played cards, so I can can hold it, and not have to worry about damaging it. But of course I do have mint cards as well, but I like getting extra lp-played cards as well

I still have my collection with slots for the ones I originally hoped to get. Unlimited and at least first 10 expansions (exp complete). Have no Idea what it would be worth....Many of them Strat from the boosters into the sleeves..... Originally started as a player Then just traded till Wizards just started pumping out expansion....every 6 month. Then they started doing the foil edges. My start up was the complete gold edged box set (witch I also still have - but it is well used) Ow, and some of them are still in the folders especially produced for the set....such as ice age !

Yup back in the day people played these cards in decks and prob no sleeves. I remember playing someone playing a lotus was very well played and everytime someone saw he had a lotus there jaws dropped lol.

hmmm when i made a binder of revised back in the day i had empty slots...cant buy every card at once...takes time...i did fill it after a couple years but maybe the guy whose stuff you got was going to do the same...they just never finish it

I love the Doppleganger. Back when the shirts first came out I had both a Dopple shirt and Nightmare shirt. I loved those things. My wife made me throw the tattered things away over twenty years ago I wore them to death. I wonder if they ever made new copies of those shirts.

I'd love some higher play older cards if I could find them that cheap. Readable good clarity front. I think it would be killer to sink them into a resin/urethane table. They had such a great feel to the artwork and design of them back then

Played/damaged cards are more liquid at a local level where as higher grade cards are for online selling. I personally enjoy trading for played cards (Especially if they are normally higher valued) because I have no qualms with actually using them.

I will say Rudy that I do actually skip spaces in my binders but they are for missing cards in the set collection I hope to fill in at a later date. The boxers are in alphabetical order however.

TBH that binder looks EXACTLY like one of mine that my idiot roommates put into storage and then didn't pay the bill for back in 2004. The cards were collected from 1993 up to about 2000/2001 and I put them in binders based on how 'cool' they were instead of any real monetary value. I loved Stone Calendar, etc... I also had a binder with like 350 dark rituals in it from every set, including the Summer Magic ones.

Yes, they are not $ valuable, but they are beautiful nostalgic cards that I love to own. I agree with you on Revised. It is the first set for so many MTG players and it's such a well balanced core set. Have you ever played with revised only decks? Its great 👍. Wow, that denim binder is in rough shape btw. Those rev duals have seen some action over the years 😱

i won on a listing awhile ago for $175 bucks or whatever. picture had some rares and a mythic in the picture. problem was those were the only ones that were there. i was bamboozled and i definitely wont be doing that again.

Those last few pages look an aweful lot like some pages that I lost when my whole collection (150 lbs of rares and old uncommons) went out the back of my truck :( nightMaresss. I would say buylist over $100,000 in todays value. Lost it 2 years ago. Imagine being the craigslist buyer who got that for $1,000.... 😂🤣

There are no longer any untapped markets for magic. Nowadays it’s not just collectors and players, but an entirely larger population of investors that are scouring every corner for a flip

You know what I see here? I see a trader. This guy would go to LGS's and bring his 2 binders with him, one full of cheap stuff that he'd just kind of toss around, and then the "good" binder that he kept within arms reach to keep the timmies from stealing his cards. There's also a good chance that the guy stopped playing a long time ago and more recently picked it up, or maybe gave the cards to his little timmy cousin who added a few newer cards to the collection.

He actually said exactly that. The HP cards are what a lot of people look for so they can actually play with them. The damaged ones were the only ones he said were worth nothing.

Not sure what Rudy is saying about buying damaged/heavy play on 30 cents to the dollar. I haven’t ever seen prices like that. It’s usually 10% decrease max.

@@lukeritchie8918 Rudy is not saying they're worthless, but he's investing in top quality and I believe (who can demonstrate it in the long run?) in 30 years mint conditions could value double of damaged. Anyway look at his video about PSA 10.
