This is a confusing issue. Pre-2019 models have instructions to disconnect the battery, while 2019 and newer models instruct owners to use Battery Standby (accessed through the MBUX system) and to consult with a technician before disconnecting the battery. I don't know if this affects the situation, but the newest Sprinters are said to have the Emergency P Battery replaced by a super-capacitor.
Earlier models have the disconnect right by the gas pedal. Super easy to pull off. Don't pull it off or disconnect the battery for at least 10 minutes after parking as the system needs power for 10 minutes to finish its work (per manual).
Did this to my sprinter today and it was eezy peezy. Thanks. Btw, I'm told that new models have a 400 w solar panel specifically for the chassis battery so you don't have to do this. The Airstream dealer said they could do it for about $3500.00.
A bit unclear about when to remove fuse #32. I'm not clear about the order of things. When do I need to disconnect the fuse? Before, during or after I remove auxiliary battery? Thanks for an excellent video. Everything was very clear, the video concise and to the point. Thanks so much for the post.
No particular order, just remove the red button plug under dash as in video and then remove the #32 fuse under driverseat panel, this was from a mercedes sprinter technician - he helped me figure this all out. Units that are 2018 or older (chassis) do not have an auxillary battery like the new sprinters so they don’t have to remove a fuse…….hope that helps!
Curious about the fuse removal.....that step is not noted in my owner's manual. Did the service technician indicate this as being an oversight of Mercedes?
Sorry, just saw this message……I removed fuse at the end, you just want to ensure there is no connection to the aux for long term as it will keep drawing against the battery, so as long as its removed you are good, I taped mine to the fuse box and left door open of box to make sure no confusion when reinstalling
@@swjamoody Great! Yes, I learned the hard way with not removing fuse but good thing Mercedes covered it and replaced aux battery. I’m told it is a very small device under seat. Removing the fuse though does the trick!
This is a 2019 chassis....disconnecting is the route we took vs battery tender. I'm sure you could do the battery tender but just be aware of the aux battery and connecting correctly. Aux feeds off of the main battery so I would think the positive connection with a metal negative ground would keep the main battery fed and thus the aux
Checked with my tech, he stated that only the 2019 and above have that 2nd auxiliary battery requiring the fuse to be removed, so no fuse for you according to Mercedes technician!
If you are pulling off the same cable connect under dash in video, you have to press down on the red button, then pull off, comes off easy. You remove fuse 32 to so the auxiliary battery doesn’t continue to draw energy, I always mark exactly where the fuse is so I place in the same slot, I keep the fuse taped to the side so no confusion
@@rvtipsandbitsneverstoplear3895 Funny, my husband couldn't get it off, but something I did managed to wriggle it off. If fuse 32 is needed to disconnect the auxiliary battery, that must mean I HAVE an auxiliary battery, we haven't been able to figure it out (we aren't in the same state as the van right now).
Yes, so this would be for chassis 2019 and newer, if your motorhome is a 2019, your chassis is probably 2018 etc….the 2018 and older do not have aux batteries and you do not have to pull the 32 fuse. The disconnect is on the outside panel by the gas pedal. I wasn’t sure if that was your case maybe otherwise, yes, press down red button and up.
