I had my sprinter battery die the other day and only had a portable jump starter with me that didn't have quite enough power to do the job with the under the hood method (it required that I start the van within about a second of connecting it). After running around the door as fast as I could a few times with no luck, I had to remove the floor and hook it straight to the battery so I could hit the start button immediately. This wasn't a problem with two other portable jump starters that I used with lower specs. Lessons learned: 1. Don't trust the specs of jump starters from China/amazon. Read the reviews. 2. Floor board removal takes two different sized torx bits, t20 and t30 (less common to have around). I'd recommend buying these bits and keeping them on board just in case. 3. If you buy a portable jump starter, make sure the leads are long enough to use it under the hood before you need it. Not all of them are. PS I have a 2019 Mercedes Sprinter 2500.

Great video. How long exactly did it take before the van was able to start? 15? 30 minutes? An hour?

Depends how depleted the battery was, but typically 5 min max. You need to rev the engine of the other car to speed up the process. It may also help to rev engine of other car while trying to start the van.

Ah I see, sorry thought your comment was on a different video regarding removing all flooring in van. For jump starting direct from battery you would have to remove floor panel in front of driver seat. I believe that requires a torx driver to remove edge panel, then removing rubber floor, then torx again to get metal cover panel off. That will definitely be more work and take longer. That is why they provide the positive and negative access points in the engine bay to simplify things.

I’m a bit confused. Is it that the van has an extra battery to jump start? If it is why do you need the other vehicle? Thx

No, the main battery is under the floor by driver seat. Since that is more difficult to access, Mercedes provides a positive connection point in the engine bay, along with a chassis ground point.
