Storm chasers are roofers that travel around to fix roofs. Not any different with local roofers.

Sweeeeeeet! Do you by chance recommend any good LUTS for editing in post production? I just got the Mavic Pro 2 and I'm excited to see how the video looks! I'm trying to find some great LUTS for the drone footage. 😀

If you're getting your roof replaced or getting a new asphalt composition shingle roofs its as simple simple of choosing one of the big three asphalt composition shingle manufactures - GAF, Owens Corning, Certainteed. All these shingles manufactures are pretty much equal to each in quality, warranty, and price. Then go on to their website and choose a local roofer listed on their website. These contractors will be "credentialed or certified" roofers by the manufactures itself. These are billion dollar corporations. They know how to train roofers. Let them take the risk for you. Lastly, opt in (pay for) for the warranty upgrade to includes a labor warranty from the manufacture. Try to find the warranty upgrade that includes tear-off (removal and old shingles in case of a problem) all labor, and of course materials. I haven't read them all but some included the tear-off and disposal of old shingles that need to be replaced due to a warranty issue and some believe it or not do not. The manufactures do all the leg work. They provide updated training, yearly license and insurance audits, provide real reviews. It can be as simple that. Only downside is you will probably pay a 10% more for one of these roofers because they have to install the shingles correctly "per manufactures specifications" and that costs them more.

Don’t let your general contractor shingles your roof themselves unless he’s an expert at Roofing. They should sub it out to Roofers. They know the local Roofers. Roofers are experts at roofing.General Contractors are usually experts at Remodling and/or Additions and “Ok” at everything else.

Do most retail roofers require money up front? What is appropriate?

1/3 or half most roofing contractors will take up front after the contract is signed

Don’t be your own Middle Man/ General Contractor. No one owes you a Subcontractor discount. The Local companies build the relationship with the roofers over time. They earn the roofers loyalty. You just want to reap all the benefits for your 1,2,3 jobs. The roofers that work directly with homeowners are doing the business a Disservice. If they want to work directly with the homeowners then they should not get work from Companies. You shouldn’t compete with the company that give you work year round for 1 homeowner. Shouldn’t Bite the Hand that Feeds You

Isn't that the reason there is the retail roofers column? Contractors hire subs, and homeowners hire retail roofers, right? Sorry, but one can rarely find a contractor who will utilize quality materials, and hire quality subs without charging a ridiculous price. I had to tell the subs to run the tar paper horizontally and not vertically for certain parts of the roof, because they were taking the non-quality easy way out. Oh, and I didn't let the subs leave with my partial materials I paid for, so they could use it on their personal projects or the next job. That is why contractors become multi-millionaires overnight when an industry boom comes to town. Most of the homeowner's money is not going towards their home. A contractor might be more efficient for a home build, but not a little roofing job.
