Out on the hills in the Hexpeak in the tail end of Storm Arwen. Forecast was for winds to reduce however - it didn't and I wanted some sleep - so I went home. #hexpeak #lochlomond #arrochar #stormarwen #wildcamp #campingfailure
Hi Jim, brilliant to see another Hexpeak out in the wild dealing with similar wind conditions to my last video :) They really are great tents! I feel your pain about the forecast not changing - the Hex will take it on the chin no bother, but doesn't mean you're getting a restful nights sleep.. haha! That exploding bladder sounded like a right PITA :(
Oh the bloody bladder (sounds like an old song 😁).. must have squirted a litre into the bag and tent. 😳. Wont make that mistake again. As for the Hexpeak. 👊💥
@@BoredManOutdoors oh dear... 😂😂 I had something similar, got the Montane prism gloves and on my second camp with them I went to turn off my stove, forgot the gloves were on and melted one 😭😅 The joys, haha!!
Jim, your a brave man indeed like. Well done in getting aff the Hill in the dark. Aye we got it bad in the East like. I had no power for 30 hours. Thank god for the stove. Nice looking mat by the way.
Thanks Kev. Proper looking forward to trying out the new mat. Took my time dropping down. I have a decent head torch so no real problems. Hope all's well with you. ⛺👍
Cheers Chris. I took my time down. The wind was spinning me round with the bag on my back. Can't believe I didn't slip at any point.. Even getting the tent packed away was reasonably uneventful, apart from nearly losing my bag during a huge gust of wind.. 😅😉👌
Cheers James'ss.. if the forecast had stayed true, it would have been a good camp. I need to see what the sleep mat is like.. doubt I'll be out again till New Year noo. Hope you're well. 👍
@@BoredManOutdoors booster jab Monday and not quite myself, but I’m sure it’ll pass. Yep, not sure when I’ll get out again up here, got a couple of new walks planned though.
Thanks Mr. Wild Wales. There was always going to be a little exposure but with the wind changing direction, it became a hopeless situation. Thanks again. ⛺👍
Isn't it just a great tent Dave.. it's so messy with all the lines and guys dangling about but.. peg down the corners, pop up the pole and peg it out.. I love it.⛺👍🌪️🌪️🌪️🌪️👍👍🌪️🌪️🌪️🌪️🌪️👍👍👍
Thanks Dave. Such a pity the winds didn't drop as it would have been a great camp. That said, so many others are still suffering the effects of the storm. Really appreciate you taking the time to watch. Jim
Hi Gordon. The tent was huge - so strong and had more to offer. It didn't move. Yes I use a hiking pole. Black Diamond. Extends to 145cm. I believe in the tent. It's so versatile. ⛺🌪️👌😎👍
@@BoredManOutdoors good to hear. I have the hexpeak too and find it solid. I always try to find a flat rock to put under the pole to stop it sinking as even a small change to the pole height causes the whole tent to loose strength. Sounds like you had it nailed down well tho. Gordon
Thank you Nigel. Safe and sound. I didn't feel unsafe on the hill but wouldn't have had a good night. Happy to get down the hill in one piece though. It's quite exciting in the dark. Thanks again for watching Nigel and for your wishes. Jim 👍
@@BoredManOutdoors a scarp for me isn’t a true 4 season but will withstand it with Cross Poles, i am still considering a hilleberg Soulo but it’s quite heavy, but like the idea of bombproof, need to take scarp out with Cross Poles to find out, wanna come 🤷🏼♂️
There seems to be a growing trend to create RU-vid etc footage of wildcamping in 'challenging' conditions. The more extreme the weather warnings the better, with 'named' storms acting as some kind of magnet. Gold-plated ammunition for those who would seek to ban (or at least over-regulate) our activities.
It's a fair point, particularly if there are fatalities. That or a surge in call outs on emergency services. Had the forecast been accurate I would have had a good night - the wind passing by 8-9pm. It was at that point I took the decision to break camp - it just wasn't happening. I'm not really a thrill seeker however, I am happy with the decisions I made. Thank you very much for leaving your comments David. Jim 👍
@@BoredManOutdoors That's cool - it wasn't your 'adventure' I was having a pop at, but certain other RU-vidrs who currently seem to be engaged in an escalating and public willy-waving contest to see who's best at playing Scott of The Antarctic...
