600 POUNDS of ore jackhammered right out of the mine! This simple gold recovery method can be used by anyone to recover free milling gold from rock. We are essentially doing 2, 300lb fire assay to quantitate the real-world values from this here gold mine.
How much gold will we recover smelting gold ore!?

Nice job. I'm a retired professional miner. I worked from drilling and blasting, both underground and pit, to set-up and operation of the mill all the way to the smelting and then refining areas. The last mine i worked at here in AZ we just crushed and smelted. High copper and i used the copper that was in the ore as a collector. Took 2 of us to man handle the crucible. The furnace sounded like a 747 taking off. Keep it up, your doing a pretty good job.Love the intensity and the drama and your editing is absolutely superb.

I like watching your videos to learn about smelting, I don't know much about. So let me tell you about an old minesite. I found a bunch of ore that had been ran through a stamp mill years ago. They left it there either because low grade or the war. But it was extremely difficult to separate the fine gold. So I screened it down through window screen size. Then made a recirculater at the end I added thick felt and fanned that part outwards. The felt caught a large majority of the gold. Panned out the cons then ran what I couldn't pan out through a tumbler with mercury which caught guessing 95% of the gold I couldn't pan. I did this process with I think 8 buckets full of material from the old mill. I ended up with a little less than 2oz of gold! It was alot of work, I went back up there to get more ore and someone noticed I was digging up the old sump material. So they dug out the rest! But still more upwards toward where the stamp mill was mounted. They poured concrete and had troughs made funneling the material into the sumps! But the trough is full of old boards and wooden fibers making it difficult to work with. A learning experience for sure! Good luck with your mine!
@ColoradoGoldCamp
@ColoradoGoldCamp 2 года назад
Wow, that sounds like a fantastic experience Pat, thanks for sharing! The concrete trough funneling the crushed ore is likely loaded with coarser gold, especially if it has any sort of obstructions in it. Very cool n Best of Luck out there!
@patdexter9188
@patdexter9188 2 года назад
One of these days I'm going take my wet dry vac and clean the whole thing out. Who knows whats in the trough under all the wood next to where the stamp mill was. I found chunks of leather and an old corn cob pipe in the sump, when it started to dry it just fell apart! Squeezing out excess mercury using pieces of leather is my guess. In the late 1800's towns sprang up all over, with schools, post office and bars then just die out after a few years. Some places you can't tell a town ever existed there. They would dismantle the mill and haul it to another location. Good luck!

I'm curious about the cupel why did it become brittle ,almost soft looking ? It's so mesmerizing to watch the oxides shed off. Truly beautiful in the camera's eye. What an amazing assay .I loved watching the pours and the convection cells as they cooled. wicked show today. I'm forever learning because of this type of content. thanks for the adventure today. Until the next one.
@ColoradoGoldCamp
@ColoradoGoldCamp 2 года назад
I believe that particular cupel was saturated with base metals n lead making it somewhat dough like while blazing hot. Once cooled, it hardened up again. Mesmerizing indeed! One of these days I will capture the point where all of the oxides are expelled causing the bead to "blink" extremely bright!
@stevezozuk9622

@@ColoradoGoldCamp That is an amazing sight to see. I was hoping that you would have filmed that very moment when it blinks . I was literally nose to screen watching to see if it would happen. @ColoradoGoldCamp
@ColoradoGoldCamp 2 года назад
@@stevezozuk9622 Absolutely Steve! The blink happens in an instant! and is difficult to capture on video because the furnace door has to be open wide enough to film. Just wish I had somewhere to go here in Scotland that I could do the same thing, over here the land is what's called the crown's,or is owned by a few very rich land owners,or the known gold bearing ground has been sold by the crown to large gold company's, there is only two areas where I can buy a permit to pan, and nothing to explore by way of mines,I watch videos from around the world and know that the prospecting is much more towards the benefits for both gold hunters and the claim owner.

Hey William. It can be a challenge to deal with hardrock ores on a small scale. For gravity separation, a shaker table or centrifuge would work best to collect all of the heavier particles which could then be smelted or leached on a small scale.

I have seen that. Nice thing about this cone mold is that it is super sturdy and has a large volume.

Hey guys new to the chanel I'm wanting to start mining but I live in east Tennessee Any ideas I live on the Cumberland plateau and don't know exactly where to start

Coker Creek and the Tellico River are the best known areas for gold prospecting. I would start research that area. The placer gold had to come from the surrounding hills and upstream.

Why does the cupel not absorb any of the gold?

@ColoradoGoldCamp

Absolutely. What you are melting will dictate the size of your smelting furnace.

Size makes a big difference in cost. You can build a larger furnace for less or buy one this size for $250-650. All said and done, I would say minimum $1,200 for a full kit. That includes cupelling furnace + fluxes etc

Greetings. I am not sure if you can help me or not but I am seeking about a half ounce to purchase for making my wife's Marriage band. I have a ~60 carat topaz from Colorado which I am going to cut myself but am looking for Colorado gold as well because we love it here in the rockies. Can you help me with this or can you point me somewhere? Thank you for your time.
