Thanks so much. It's wonderful to see someone who knits like me, without 2 hands or continental or combination. Just passing yarns. I was starting to feel so frustrated as I tried various methods to work 2 yarns, but I've knitted English for over 50 years and I don't think I have the dexterity to change. It was making me feel discouraged. Thanks for the close up of how to trap floats. Your work is beautiful!

I’m also a very longtime knitter - continental style - and have tried many ways of color work knitting and seem to be unable to achieve the dexterity for manipulating the 2 yarns. I will try again! Will be similar for double sided knitting, which also facilitates me.

Wow ! Thankyou so much ..I have managed to work colour yarn into my knitting for few rows on latest jumper project by holding the yarn not in use across the back of the stitches and sort of knitting over them…but it is hard work very confusing (especially as I have 2 dk threads in one strand to match the other) the threads keep twisting up and I’m reversing he order all the time…..Your method looks so much easier and more organised ..can’t wait to try it ! Love your work You are firmly in my favourites for this ! I’m and English knitter who has recently converted to continental which is much faster but sometimes English is much better for the trickier manoeuvres so I tend to use both I have been an accasional knitter fo4 over 50 years so I encourage your previous commenter to give it a go ..took me about a week to feel comfortable with it . Happy knitting

Patterns make our knitting lives so much easier. I started knitting the Aran cable sweater and it took me a lot of swatches to get the right size and the look from Rory Gilmore's Netflix videos. I broke it down by cable and reading lots of books on aran sweaters. I have the front panel almost finished and I must say it looks fab-u-lous, but not easy. Next I am going to purchase this pattern and knit it.

Hello! I just found your channel and I have a question regarding the catching of the second color. Do you find that when you catch every other stitch with the contrast color that the contrast color is seen more easily on the front? For example if my main color is blue and I catch my yellow yarn every other stitch as you have shown it seems that the yellow is seen on the front of the work peeking through the blue. Do you find this? Thank you for your podcasts!
@kikizag
@kikizag Месяц назад
And then in the next row what color are you gonna carry? Is the same process the whole project?

This is a great technique! What about for the purl side? Looking into all sorts of approaches for a flat knit project I'm about to commence and so far Portuguese style would result in least tangled mess of yarn BUT I knit English style and fear my tension would be affected by switching to a style I've never really used... and I've only found the method of carrying floats on the purl side (as that's how in the round is knitted in that style as the stitch is simpler)

You have asked what we would like to see, and here I am popping in a year later with a question that recently came to mind. It's about stretch. As a suggestion, could you do a comparison between your no-float knitting and float knitting. For me, floats are not something I would like to continue with, and for socks, stretch is required. Once these socks are completed, I will be using your no-float method on the next pair, very exciting!
@theknittingman6443
@theknittingman6443 10 месяцев назад
Hi - yes there is definitely less stretch when I use this method but I don't knit socks. If I did I would probably make sure that there is no tension at all on the carrying yarn. I hope this helps. Gary

How do you carry colors in the loop for fair isle knitting while maintaining the stretchiness? And is there a way to carry colors with cables?
@theknittingman6443

Yes you do lose some stretchiness but you need to keep the tension loose on the carrying colour .

@theknittingman6443

I rather like the carrying colour grinning through although you wont see them once it is blocked. Yes you can use thicker yarn or thicker needles but then of course the finished fabric will have less drape.

I just don't see a good way to do this. I really don't like seeing the glimpses of the carried yarn between the stitches from the front. Also, working on the back of the fabric presents it's own set of challenges. I carry one color in each hand. This method would slow me down so much that I'd have a hard time continuing.
