Phil, this is a very good idea, but last time I restarted the game I noticed that one star had gone from one spot and respawned somewhere different. I will check if it happens again, I would love to bury them once and for all.

Wow, I learned something from you today! I didn´t realise that the farming plots held different amounts of water, I always make plank plots because I like the look of them and keep the iron for my raft. I will pay more attention next time I make a garden. Thanks. Btw, it´s worth adding the Lion fish to your list of poison species, those devils always seem to hang out with the Codfish!

Omg same here i for the life of me couldnt figure out how to make the water still keep producing water drove me nuts till i happend to be walking by with fibrous leaves and it popped up 💡 and i was like holy shxx i just need to have it in my hands to refuel it wow 👏 😅
Really appreciate these vids, easily the best ones for S D out there, I would have given up without them. Just wish you hadn`t mentioned the dripping water tho, didn't notice the noise before you mentioned it and now its all I can hear lol
lol - sorry about that :) If you switch to the experimental version, the dripping sound is fixed, and I'm sure the next stable update (with that fixed) should be coming out soon.

The eating spoiled meat mistake had me laughing. For me it’s that I’m trying to hit the button to THROW the meat but I’m not “rag dolling” it, I’m just holding it like I’m ready to use it. Same button.
Episode 3 was very educational. I didn't know about trophies. I hope you show how to make plaques for them. The boars in the sea, they do swim in real life so I was expecting a shark to take it from you. Right then, Episode 4. Stay safe.
I found that when I had killed a snake that you must remove the spear before skinning your prey. I didn't and my spear disappeared with the snake after skinning. Not that a spear it hard to make but I guess arrows will do the same.
I just got the game on PS4 and your tutorials, despite being over a year old and for the PC are coming in really handy. Thank you for making them. I don’t know if I’m doing something wrong or whether it’s been updated / changed for PS4 but when I use the aloe vera for sunblock it goes after 1 use which is a pain in the butt
Yeah, they changed that at some point. They only last 1 use now, so I don't even use them any more. It's really only from about 2pm - 3pm that you might ever need to cool down or get sunstroke, so because of the way the SPF slowly depletes, just go swim in the water or stand in the shade for a bit at pretty much anytime between 10am-2pm.
@@agoork01 I was wondering about that, seeing you sipping from the same potion every time. Shame they changed that, now you need to grow aloe in a farm, if you want regular sun protection. I try to do the hard work first thing in the morning, and when it gets really hot I do the "marine" things... it works well for me.
I’m just starting out on the PS4. I didn’t realize I was supposed to keep the cooked meat on the smoker longer to get it smoked. Makes complete sense, how much longer does the smoked meat last vs only cooked?
Good to know! I’m gonna fill up my crates on my raft with those, water jugs, bandages, and antidotes. If only PS4 could get container shelves for our rafts now lol.
@@reddevil1540 What really? I have never noticed my smoked meat spoiling... but then again, I usually only make a few days worth of food at any one time.
@@agoork01 it says spoiled smoked cooked meat, but I had left in smoker and went to a different island and came back like 3 days later. Maybe I am wrong and was just cooked as was done awhile ago.
My thoughts exactly. The fiberous plants are so much more rare in a sense and I save them just for lashings, and use the palm leaves for the water tarp, now that I know I can use sticks too that's great. But I'm also a noob so idk..
Such helpful tutorials I’ve just made my first raft I’m on day 9 in good shape only problem is whenever I try to return to my little start island it blue screens I’ve made my raft at the second island but can’t return home because of this bug/glitch, anyone else experience this on PS4
I was on that island yesterday killed the two snakes, then while chasing one pig I saw another. I spent two days looking for it not knowing they can glitch under water. Thanks for the info :)
Yes, it plays a bit differently on console and you pretty much have to use palm fronds for fueling the water still. With the addition of farming plots on PC, you can now plant and grow yucca, so leaves are not really a problem once you have a base set up with a farming plot or 2 growning yucca.
I think this might be a PS4 new launch issue but my meat smoker seems to straight up not work. Meat goes to spoiled before even reaching cooked state. No lack of fire - kept it going, including one time through sleep - meat at best not cooked if not spoiled. Is there any additional nuance to it other than adding it to the rack and keeping an active fire?
Yeah, sounds like a PS4 issue. Normally you just attach the meat on the smoker and make sure there is wood on the fire, and let it cook./smoke. If you are just placing the meat on the upper rack without attaching it, that would definitely be the problem.
Cooked meat will still spoil after a day or 2. Smoked meat never spoils, so you can stock up on food for when you sail to explore other islands. I usually do a fishing day, where I go catch lots of fish, smoke them all and then I have food for a week and don't have to worry about finding food every day.
Any idea why I can throw spears perfectly into the ground but when I attempt to throw one at a giant crab it just breaks mid flight?😩 is this a bug or am I missing something? Ps4 btw and thanks for the content its helped a lot so far
Not sure, never played on passive. If you select wildlife "removed", the snakes, giant boars, sharks and giant crabs are gone. On passive, I would guess they are still there but will not attack you. Try it and see what happens I guess.
Depends on the version you are playing. At the time this video was recorded, sharks, boars, crabs and snakes did not respawn. Now they do for the most part - though it may depend on whether you are on a custom island or a game generated island and which version you are playing. If they haven't respawned within a week (in game), then they won't be respawning.
Sorry for the late reply, but yes, of course. I wouldn't smoke it if I couldn't eat it later :) Smoked meat essentially lasts forever and won't spoil, so that should be the way you cook your meat - at least if you are not planning on eating it all right away.
I am beginner player, I finding this series helpful but I seem to get to day 6 and run out of rocks to make knifes to skin my fish, so I’ve been going to other island to try find rocks only to be tipped up and eaten by tiger sharks. Any ideas? Thanks
If you are in your rubber raft, or even on a small wooden raft, you can get flipped over by a shark. Easiest way to turn it over again, is to grab an edge and pull it down into the water and then swim forwards towards the raft while still holding it down. That essentially will flip the raft back the right way up and then you can get in and paddle onwards.
You should also build an axe and use that for chopping trees. Save your knife for skinning and for harvesting young palms. But yeah, you do eventually have to leave your island in search of more stuff. Build a larger raft when you get a chance, as that will help too.

Not sure what you are asking, but you do not have to change islands. You can stay on your start island, but to survive, it is easier to go to many islands and just have one as a base or home.
